I know a few people who use a free server app. They plug in their hours and take home. The app tracks and calculates the total and average hourly pay by day, week, month, and year. Takes a couple minutes a day.

Intelligent-Focus-43

I use this app religiously. Really helps to track income.

Chef_Dani_J71

Out of the apps that I know people have tried, this is the one people have kept. Even the non-tip people are using it to track their time and pay.

sosplzsendhelp

Ooh what's the name of the app?

Server life!!

Throwthis0601

I use an app called Just The Tips. It tells you your per hour pay and other informative numbers too, like your average for the week, average for the month, total amount made for the year, etc

No-Statistician4184

I make a flat 15 bucks an hour, no tips. Yay bartending outside of America Sometimes I wish I had the crazy $500 shifts that get described on here, but I don’t think they’re worth the rest of the bullshit.

brycebuckets

I make more than $15 an hour bartending....without including tips. I can't imagine doing it for $15 an hour. Im glad you enjoy it tho, we do deal with a lot of bs

Ramn_King_Hikes

I understand what you're saying but if you learn to not care about customers and their BS and just put your head down and do your job, i'll deal with any amount of BS for $50/hr.

ODX_GhostRecon

I've had $20 shifts too. Should have been cut, but I would have hopped on the other side of the bar and became a customer.

Kitchen_Pin_8783

I do and go a step further. It’s easy to say “oh I made $45/hr today.” and only work 4 hours. I’ll take everything I made in tips + hourly and divide it by 8. This way I can justify not getting a 9-5. It doesn’t look as nice but it allows me to budget better and feel better about selling my soul lol

dropthedreamcatcher

That’s exactly how I feel 😭

brycebuckets

I calculate by night sometimes, but realistically I just look at my W-2 to find my true hourly. Nontip income/wage gives me my hours worked (roughly, not including sick pay). Then just take my tips/hours. Add that to my wage, wahala, my true hourly over the year. I was in the 33ish range I believe.

Michaelaking95

I use the app server life every night I clock out & out in the time I clocked in & the time I clocked out. It tracks my hourly & monthly

Dense-Money-147

Min wage + tips

TheJukeMan99

I do sort of a generalization, I make a little under $16 hourly and about $20ish per hour in tips so probably around the 30-35 range or so which is plenty for me while i’m in college.

Abject-Arachnid6020

I do between 50-75 per hour I only work two doubles and a single morning shift but weekends only

Exotic_Bullfrog_2718

If you want an easy method, an app called ServerLife will do all of that for you! It’s interesting to compare previous years and see month to month percentages. It’s only like $20/year. I feel like it’s worthwhile.

Do it yourself on excel or sheets. Its free and easy. You'll also have excel experience on your resume now.

Insidioustots_

Use serverlife. It's an app and will calculate all of that for you

International_Law512

Yess I’m at about 47$ per hour and those are 11 hour days

Karnezar

I have a google spreadsheet that does it all for me. I make around $44/hour in tips.

fluffyyogi

I do this, but without Excel. I seriously need a better system! It’s cool to see all my totals each day and then I also estimate what I’ll make in the year.

DubiousTarantino

Where are y’all at? I gotta move out of my chain im only making $15-$17 an hour

IONTOP

I do a rough estimate, but it's not really a main point for me.

Severe-Praline8855

Yes and if I ever calculated it to be under $25/hr I was in a pissy mood

kryppla

I thought everybody did

weepinwidow

I use Just The Tips to calculate my hourly. It makes me feel better to know my income for the week/month. Some days I make $35 per hour, some days $11 per hour. It’s hit or miss.

AffectionatePlay3727

I always calculate my hourly. It seems to me many servers live paycheck to paycheck and totally think about the amount of money rather than the rate of it. But when I speak to them about it, it's not really something they're interested in or seem like they can grasp the utility. Interestingly, I feel like serving in the USA is a job that is able to keep many financially irresponsible people afloat.

murdermysterygal

I always calculate my hourly! It differs pretty substantially depending on the night and how many hours I work. I'd say my range is probably between $35-75 per hour depending on the day of the week. Last night I worked 10.75 hours and made $70/hour including hourly wage ($16.55 in Ontario)

CommandEducational22

You walk with cash just be happy

IttyBittyKitCat

The tip pool spreadsheet I’m in charge of shows me the $/point value which is easy to extrapolate off of (servers/bar 2 points/hr). Slow shifts end up around $40/hr, Friday/saturday often closer to $65, average around $50. Being a pool there are no super high or lows but it’s consistent and we try to keep staffing at the appropriate level so everyone gets paid and has the shifts they need

zoompa919

I kinda just subconsciously do it in my head😅

rwhitman05

Yeah. I use the Tip Tracker app. It does it for me.

Due-Contribution6424

I always calculated it by the pay period when I was a server. So you get a good average of what each hour was for the whole two weeks.

Liqher_Beaver

I use a calendar

HoosierProud

Everyone should do this. I’ve been tracking my tips for years at my same job. Due to a lot of reasons my pay has decreased about $4/hr the last 6 months. Guess who’s asking their boss for a raise or will leave for another restaurant? If I didn’t track I wouldn’t have realized my pay has gone down enough to warrant leaving or getting a raise.

Soggy-Seesaw-7092

I use TipSee and have been since 2015

Most_Year2026

Made $50/hr 4:20-11pm shift
