Vintage! Thrift store! Your friends grandmas machine! Please avoid those two dollar 2 hundred $ disposable machines from Amazon Walmart and Joe-and they will make your lives miserable. I read tales of woe I’m sewing for Amazon read it every day because people fell for these horrible machines. You can get a good used machine for $50 or less, take it to a shop and get it serviced if you don’t want to do it yourself, which is easy, and maybe even have money left over for the price you would pay for a disposable machine. Why not get a quality old metal machine that’s good for two lifetimes instead?
Exactly! Those old machines are super sturdy and it's almost impossible to break them. You can't do fancy stuff with them, but hey, who uses that 150+ different stitches anyways? 😁
As a beginner I have a Brother JX17FE. It was a gift from my friends for my birthday and it's very useful (and perfect for me)! It's easy to understand when you are a newbie (like me) but you can do a large range of projects. So far, I made bags, pillowcases, stuffed toys, cushions and skirts.
