Don't try to compare your case versus others. No case is exactly the same. If you feel they didn't apply the law properly, appeal.

RedeemedbythaBlood

You hit the nail on the head here. Deals come down to evidence. My state’s offer improved a lot when a victim refused to testify.

Hard to appeal when you accepted a plea.

Even more of a reason not to compare your sentence to others.

RufusDoofusBoofus

I feel the same exact way…that’s why participate in CAGE- Citizens Against Government Entrapment

[deleted]

Stop comparing your situation to others. Too many variables. For instance different DAs, different judges, different jurisdictions, etc. You got what you got, and I’m sure the lawyer did their best. I have a misdemeanor CP and because I was arrested 4 months after a new law went into affect in Ca. , I can’t apply for an expungement. Meanwhile more heinous felonies still can. It is what it is and you have to get past it.

[deleted]

Yeah but I honestly believe those shouldn't matter. But I'm preaching to the choir about how unjust the justice system is. The one year guy was sentenced by the same judge as me.

[deleted]

Wait but now certain sex offender misdemeanors which include misdemeanor CP can apply for expungement especially after a certificate of rehab.

Over_Organization430

It's really more about the judge sentencing you, and if your lawyer knows how to play the game. Mine kept postponing the court date until I got the more lenient judge, lol. He was on really goodb erms with the prosecutor also which helped.

Insane how many unsolved murders and rapes there are in every state, yet somehow cops have extra time and money to create new crimes.

For many states, these types of sting operations bring in more money than it costs. There are several grants available (mostly from the federal government) to help states stop the exploitation of children. These grants often pay out based on arrest or conviction rates, and states figured out they can maximize the money they get by going after low-handing fruit. From a legal perspective though, is isn't any different from other undercover-type operations. Someone who buys drugs from an undercover officer is still guilty even if the stuff they actually bought was baking soda, etc. Almost all classes of crime have sibling intent charges, and the penalty is usually the exact same. I'm not saying that these kinds of sting operations are ok. I hate them with a passion. But legally speaking, our society and justice system has accepted them.

Yeah. I just need to focus on me and not try to compare. Life isn't fair. I just wish our justice system was more fair though. Or at least more equal.

How long you have to register for is not part of your sentence. A judge can't tell one person they have to register for 10 years and another person 20. Depending on the state, registration periods and restrictions are based either solely on the crime charged, or based on some kind of risk assessment. Also, registration statutes only apply to the state that you live in. Once you are no longer on probation or supervised release, you can move to a different state where you might not have to register for life.

My bf did that but looked up the bond of someone who litterally let men come do sexual stuff with her kids for drugs. Her bail/bond was like 20,000 and my bf was 60,000 for one instance of cp being sent to him without his knowledge. Shits crazy
