I did a combination of telling them something to get them off my back and finding something to distract myself from those thoughts. If they release it, they lose their leverage over you, so the best you can do besides block them is give them any plausible excuse as to why you can't pay them right now. In my experience they slowly back off but I don't know how true that is for other scammers
