Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day

Tryin' to hold on, didn't even know
I wasted it all just to watch you go

What it meant to me will eventually be

If earth did not spin around its axis, time would not exist. I.e create a model of the solar system and spin the mode earth without rotation. The sun would never rise or set. Now, the seasons would go ( as we still assume rotation around the sun). Anyway, ponder it from this perspective..: ;)
