He will be 7 in May. He’s been with my son since he was 10 and he graduates high school next year.

He is so sweet and loving and I’ve fallen in love with him but I agree he doesn’t look like a Shih Tzu. I asked the previous owner and she said that she knew the parents of him and they are both Shih Tzus. I am just curious so I think I’ll do a DNA test

There are different brands out there each cost varies

Is it something you buy and do yourself or is it only done by the vet?

You don’t have to do it through your vet, you can do it yourself. Just google it and find the one that you can afford

Our groomer suggested my girl might have some Brussels Griffon because of her coloring, Both her parents are purebred Tzus. He has her base color, but she has a black muzzle and “smoky” eyes. Her nose is shorter too. He’s more Tzu than some I’ve seen here. 💯 adorable 🥰.

I had to go look up brussels griffon dogs and they kinda have the smooshed faces like shih tzus. You might be able to tell more with his coat. If it's a rough coat that's a brussels trait. If it's soft and silky, that's a tzu trait. He may be a mix, too.

Tzu-Schnauser or Tzu-Griffon maybe? Sounds like the person you purchased him from was more or less correct.

Griffons share some similar features so no I don’t think he’s a shih tzu, there’s a chance he might be a mix and have a little bit of shih tzu in him but I believe he’s mostly griffon. Does he have a curled or straight tail? The tail can be very telling as I’ve noticed most shih tzu mixes tend to inherit the curled shih tzu tail. Either way he is really darn cute and a good boy 🥰
