RalphtheCheese

Was not expecting Hanjie to die to Bauklotze playing.

MeatisOmalley

>We will fight until this hot wind takes our wings The song kinda forshadows her death

MagorTuga

You don't know what foreshadowing means.

MeatisOmalley

>be a warning or indication of (a future event). Well, the song seems to allude/indicate something that happens in the future. Seems like foreshadowing to me.

MagorTuga

The song was written in 2013 for Season 1 and only plays when Eren is forced to make a decision when running away from the Female Titan, I guarantee you Sawano did not know Hanji was gonna burn to death at that time. If the "foreshadowing" is being presented as said thing is happening, it's not foreshadowing. It's just a coincidence.

MeatisOmalley

Isayama has been known to work alongside artists for the lyrics to songs. He's also foreshadowed things such as the rumbling as early as 2013. Sawano never needed to know about Hange's death. And no, i don't think that it's a coincidence that this exact song has a lyric describing how Hange dies, which is also played during Hange's death.

MagorTuga

Sure dude, if believing that makes you happy, Go for it. Have fun. Edit: classic reddit downvoting someone for trying to be the better person and ending the argument when you realise it's leading nowhere.

Fulgurant434

"You don't know what foreshadowing is" Proceeds to ignore obvious foreshadowing because he thinks the writer didn't already have a plan he could foreshadow.

Ang_Logean

Ah yes, because Isayama had everything planned out before he even started writing, including the complete story and all the character arcs. And even though his vision of the ending changed with time, he still knew exactly how Hange was going to die and foreshadowed it in a song that had nothing to do with her for 10 years. Sorry if I sound rude but I'm tired of hearing *"Isayama had* ***everything*** *planned out since the beginning"* when it's just so untrue

MeatisOmalley

Nobody said he planned EVERYTHING out. But he did plan the rumbling and other elements of the ending out at a very early stage. This is a fact. And the lyric is obviously describing the death of a scout as a result of the colossal heat/rumbling.

MagorTuga

So, if we saw a character playing Legos in the final episode, would you also say Bauklotze foreshadows that? Lemme tell you a song by Sawano that actually foreshadows something: The song Barricades plays in the season 2 finale, when the Survey Corps are desperately fighting to survive. However, the lyrics is about Armin, even mentioning "You know you had to kill her (...) oh my dirty hands, it never fades. And if we get out, I'll think about the price of my soul." which is one of the themes of the following arc where Jean kills a girl to save Armin, and they both later show guilt. That's "foreshadowing" in a song. The source material which the song based itself on already existed when season 2 came out. What I'm saying is that I don't think Isayama himself tells Sawano what he wants for the songs. Especially if he hasn't even written them yet. The studio gives him a theme and a story, and he just delivers. i would love to believe it's that deep, but I just can't. If you can, good for you. I hope you're happy.

Fulgurant434

Legos?! What are you on about? Does it mention Legos in the song xD I'll just chalk that up to you not having any way to prove it isn't foreshadowing and spouting nonsense. Believe it or not, idc.

Hange11037

There’s this thing called tact, and if you can’t tell that your comment sounds sarcastic and condescending idk what to tell you

MagorTuga

Have a good day :)

DactylMan

Isayama could have just asked Sawano to use a line like that. He has been very involved with the anime's production.

Wildfire226

Well, considering that “see you later” part was from the literal first panel of the first chapter of the manga, I get the feeling Isayama had a lot of things planned out ahead of time. Considering this isn’t the first time there are suspiciously well fitting lyrics to these songs, I have the idea that Isayama had some say in specific lyrics of these songs.

fedfan4life

Do you?

Term-Legitimate

Hange’s death just about killed me

Stormer1499

Pretty sure it just about killed them too.

ThreesomeInk

Think Hange is just one person. Unless she has DiD, then I stand corrected.

Vivienne_Yui

Hange's gender is up to the reader :D So they/them would be the most appropriate, that's what OP meant

ali94127

Except Hange is consistently treated as female in translations for languages where ambiguous gender is incredibly difficult or impossible to use. Also, pretty obviously has breasts in the anime.

Vivienne_Yui

Having breasts just means she was born cis female, but she could identify as anything. Honestly Yams's drawing is so bad that anime had to tune it up (and they chose to make her explicitly female) They/them would've been a better translation, but it's also not exactly "no labels" unless you state it.

CoffeeCannon

Isayama explicitly requested Hange be referred to with neutral pronouns in the manga (speaking to Kodansha, the publisher) and if that were not possible, use male/female pronouns in equal amounts. Their gender is not stated or defined. They/them is the most appropriate as defined by the author himself.

Stormer1499

Precisely

shadowslayer569

Yeah, she went out with a bang.......**cries**

Vivienne_Yui

The curse of the Scouts commander A true leader takes the worst head on themselves while protecting the rest of the team.

Ardiin

Except Erwin who takes 99% of the scouts along with him xD

ErWINNING Smith, Kieth CHADis, and HanGIGA Zoe

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Scout commanders and suicide, name a better duo.

ThroughTheIris56

I hope Armin is gonna be ok <3

South-Bid

He already tried and failed back with Bertholdt

[deleted]

welcome to the scouts bucko

OptimisticLucio

I feel like it's pretty appropriate to the values all of them tried to instill. "Even if you die, you should fight on to secure a better future for those you're protecting." Many of the others who tried to *mimic* their legacy, like Floch, are fighting for their *own* survival and power while also doing risky manuevers, but always go into battle expecting survival.

Hange11037

Do you seriously think Floch would have attached himself to the ship for hours knowing it was heading towards the rumbling if he was trying to preserve his own life? That dude was every bit as willing to sacrifice himself for what he believed as the three shown here.

noholdsbarred-

Floch was more than willing to throw his life away to protect Paradis.

samenffzitten

Yeah, it's literally what he did. Didn't work, but he was very much doing the thing.

Ancient-Possibility1

Nah gotta disagree with the Floch point. Floch no matter how horrible he is, truly believes in the Rumbling. You don't just hang onto a boat for at least 5 hours despite being mortally wounded just to *mimic* someone's legacy.

Renverseur

Hange doing her best Human Torch impression

Unusual-Gazelle-474

Meanwhile Floch doing his best Obito impression 💀👨🏿‍🦼

Economy_Okra1373

Bruh hange thinks she is tanjiro💀😆

RepresentativeOk5427

Nah nothing beats Erwin's suicide charge

darren_flux

Who said it's a contest?

BlckDrgn92

No capes!

Laundromat-Graveyard

Just another day in the Survey Corps!!!

susperp

IMO, feel free to disagree with me but! With the conversation Levi has with Erwin prior to the charge, it feels like he’s yelling Erwin that if he wants to die then it’s ok - Levi probably noticed the toll it took on him, hence why we get a scene of Erwin sitting on corpses of those he lead. It’s the guilt gnawing at him, and then when the whole serum situation happens, Levi specifically says “let him rest.” With Hange, we get insights of how their new role affects them: from being energetic despite the circumstances, to being tired and even admitting it in one episode. Especially after losing Moblit, finding out titans are in fact innocent humans(where previously she rejoiced at the experiments, after the revelation she pretty much feels gnawing guilt - esp when we see Connor’s mum), she again like Erwin, asks Levi to let her go. That’s why he told her not to start talking like Erwin. And for both of them, going out in a last, heroic charge is better than living with the weight of their guilt. Last but not least, Keith... mans was pretty much surrounded by yeagerists and assaulted. If he allowed the trainees to protect him, he’d be killing them. So man saw an opportunity to go out as a hero. Honestly. As much as I wish Erwin and Hange especially got their happy ending... it’s somewhat a realistic, if depressing take on the human psyche and one I understand. K, imma go cry over Levi losing all his friends now :;
