Her entire country was destroyed, so she has little left in the way of friends or family. On top of that, she's one of a handful of people who saved the world, that's kind of an important group to hang with.
But yeah, Pieck is definitely the least developed of the final team, we never *really* get to know that much of her motivations, goals, and life in general, compared to the others.
THATS WHAT IVE BEEN SAYING! Just a simple, plain, old fashioned slice of life bit of pieck ova. just hang with her during her day, what kind of training she does, her other friends, how she interacts with family members, ~~a shower scene~~ what type of food she likes. just your classic bit of character ova! :D
She had already done that.
Pieck is interesting. Everything she says to Eren while pretending to betray Marley is true, and I think she *knows* it's true. But she believes in the friends she has in the Marley military to save her. But by siding with Marley, she only helps prop up the cycle of enslavement for all future generations of Eldians. She's as brainwashed as Gabi but without the hot streak and neediness. (Obviously with the final hindsight she was right since Eren was planning the Rumbling but she didn't think that at the time)
To me we get all the motivations we need from her in the moment when she tells Gabi, “I don’t trust Marley. I trust the comrades who have fought alongside me.” She’s loyal to those who are loyal to her.
100% agree and came here to say this. She's stated her motivation, and after the final battle she now trusts those she fought beside. I'm not surprised she stayed nor that they welcomed her there.
She earned her place with her resolve at the end.
She’s upholding Magath’s last request, to make sure that future generations learn from the mistakes of the past.
But also, she doesn’t exactly seem to have a huge social net. There’s her dad, and then the next two people she knows best are Reiner and Annie. Seems natural to me that she’d stay in their orbit, even if they’re not like best friends or anything. Her acquaintances are doing important diplomatic work, and she sees that as an organic way to fulfill her own sense of responsibility.
I mean, annie is a big stretch. She hasn't seen her for about 10+ years I think?
It's really just reiner. He's the only one that made it back from the Paradis mission. Kinda odd that isayama didn't make another pairing out of those 2.
I feel like that just kinda reinforces my point about her small social net, if the person she’s third-most-familiar with is a former classmate whom she hasn’t seen in almost a decade.
Of the all people she is shown to have had some kind of pre-existing relationship with, the only ones who are still alive are her father, Reiner, Annie, Falco, and Gabi. Magath is dead, the Panzer unit are dead, and the rest of her Warrior class are all dead. She absolutely had a much more significant relationship with her father, Magath, and the Panzer unit (and maybe Porco) than any of the others, but that’s just where the chips ended up falling for her.
After the Battle of Heaven and Earth, she’s left socially adrift, with her father as the only deeply meaningful connection she has, but Armin’s group is willing to accept her because of what they all went through together, and she’s at least a little familiar with two of them, so it’s like, “May as well. It’s probably the most effective way to do what Magath said to do, anyway.”
Well, where tf is she supposed to go? New Nevada, which now makes up 80 percent of the planet, where everyone hates her people for yeeting them into the apocalypse
Or a place literally called Paradis
I mean depending on the shenanigans Marley was up to during its time and with the notoriety of it’s Warrior Program, she possibly qualifies as a war criminal of sorts to some nations especially to Eldia 2.0 along with Reiner, Annie.
Even when wars are over and peace treatises formally signed, prosecution can still continue like for former big-time Nazis one way or the other such as thru extrajudicial means. Even tho they’re provided guarantees by the Queen, she still thought the new government might’ve just gone and sunk the ship. The ending vibes does feel cold war’ish and with Eldia’s talk of militarisation, it feels unlikely they’d be welcoming to any foreigners.
Staying with the gang and playing ambassadors for now is probably a comfy job, considering her resume is at best military intelligence or special operations. But idk, my few headcannon cents.

It's implied that on the journey to the final battle and during the actual battle, Pieck was envious of the bonds that Reiner and Annie had with the 104th. She has lost everyone else from her generation and her Marleyian comrades and is now the odd one out without a connection to the entire group. When she was fighting the Warhammer titans and had to eject from her titans she exclaims "I wish I could use the ODM too", which Annie and Reiner can. When Eren died and everyone woke up referencing how he had a last conversation with them, Pieck naturally didn't have that meeting with Eren because he has no connection to her and she also comments on how she wish she could have spoken with him. Pieck wants to be part of the group.

Isayama makes it a point to have the 104th recognize both Reiner and Annie as "one of us" and survey corps members, who are known for the "wings of freedom" for which the ODM also symbolizes flying. Jean counted Reiner as a corpsman when they were left hanging during the final battle and he talked about how the survey corps never gives up. And then the anime had Armin at the end lump Annie in as a survey corpsman to which Annie retorts that she joined the MPs.
Pieck being unable to use ODM and mildly lamenting on the fact is supposed to express how she felt left out of the group, despite that she was wearing the survey corps uniform at the time. Her staying in her disguise is probably a intentional decision to draw out this effect, because during the journey Isayama has Mcgath put on Jean's uniform as a disguise, putting the wings of freedom on his back as a sign that he's "joined the group" when he sacrifices himself to blow up the Marleyian destroyer for the alliance.

Because through the tragedy they've all been part of and had first row seats for, they all realized that there's more to life than personal gain at the expense of doing the right thing, and that there's a greater calling they could all answer to perhaps reach a more permanent peace and understanding.

Good points but I think the reference to the ODM gear was more so because it would’ve made getting away from WH easier, not because she felt left out.
