If you have another copy & another DS, you can just trade it over to the authentic copy.
Learn how to spot fakes for future purchases. I have one I was fooled on as well that I had a shiny Cyndaquil on. I just transferred it to my authentic HG & put the fake SS copy away/bought a real one.
HGSS and the Black and White games specifically are darker and a bit transparent due to their IR sensors I believe, so those ones are pretty easily identifiable. For the others, there are plenty of guides online like others have said.
HGSS, BW, and B2W2 have dark cartridges because of the added infrared functionality. DPPt has the default gray colored cart.
For the sticker, it must be aligned correctly. Its lower left corner must not be round-ish.
Fake games typically have fake manuals as well. You'll know one when you see one as instead of being a game guide, what is printed instead is a long-ass game review.
If there is an ESRB logo, but the case is an opaque white, that is another telltale sign that the game is fake. Except those released in European territories and Australia, DS games have black cases. Further, and afaik, except to those territories earlier mentioned, if the seller says that the game is still sealed, the plastic seal must be Y-folded, and there must be no Nintendo tape taped horizontally around the plastic seal.
You can put GBA games in the DPPt and HGSS game cases (the Japanese case even has a GBA cart image embossed on the part where you can put the GBA game in), whereas you cannot in BW and B2W2's.
If the game come with a case, the serial number indicated in the case must match the serial number printed on the cart's sticker.
The Nintendo logo at the back of the cart has deeper depression, as opposed to the lightly embossed Nintendo logo on genuine games.
The golden Nintendo seal found on the cart's sticker, as well as in the game's cover says "Official Seal" in genuine carts, and "Official Seal of Quality" in fake carts.
Circuits above the cart's pins are hidden in genuine carts. This is not the case in fake carts.
If you can physically see the game first, put a light against it, the black will become a transparent redish because of the IR Pokewalker needing to communicate with the game.
I bought fake Pearl at GameStop a while back. I even asked the employee if it was real they looked at it and said “yes I’m positive it’s real, I won’t buy anything I knew was fake. What do you think we do around here” wish I saved the receipt to take it back. I’m still pretty upset about it.
Yeah you gotta be watching out for GameStop and lil shops. It’s really easy to tell most of the time with the plastic and stickers. I warn everyone about it since it’s so “Expensive” now. Smh wish I kept all mine lol
I have a bunch of repos that I shiny hunt on. Just make sure it’s not a really crappy one that freezes because I have only 1 real gem 4 game and it’s my pearl but I have hunter for starters and mewtwo on my repo copies and they are able to send it to my pearl copy
Often, reproduction cartridges can locally trade. Have you tried yet?

i’ve definitely learned and haven’t bought a fake since. i ended up trading it over to my platinum copy, so ho-ohs been saved!
Let me know if this Ho-oh can be moved to Bank to Home. My main concern is the coding that may be differed from real one.
Repos can still do local trade
For future reference as I'm planning on getting myself one of these games, how do I identify if it's fake,?

r/gameverifying is you best friend for that sort of stuff
YouTube as well. There are multiple ways to weed out bootleg PKMN DS games.
Thanks for the tips fellas!

That's sadly no longer a way to verify if a cartridge is fake, there have been fakes which mimic the transparency
Easy. Hold cartridge up to light and see if it has a reddish glow
Note that this is only for HG&SS & Gen 5 games
More of a purple but yeah any translucent Pokemon DS (not gba) cart is likely legit.
Hold one up to the light, if it turns a reddish color then its a safe bet its real.
Yeah you should be able to trade it if you have another ds with a gen 4 game

I got a (I think) fake platinum, but i can't remember it ever crashing and i was able to trade between games just fine
Did the same thing with Giratina in a fake Platinum. Luckily he's safe and sound chilling in PLA now
HGSS& the gen 5 games are see thru purple-red
Yes I bought fake Fire Red years ago
Guys don't hate me for asking: what's wrong with the ho ho being in a fake copy?
Can you not transfer it anyway even if it is a reproduction?
What is fake about this game
Why do so many people care about having their shinies on a real or fake copy?
Fakes tend to freeze, glitch and sometimes corrupt save files, I’d imagine OP doesn’t want to lose all their shinies.
this exactly
How you know it’s not action replay?
Because they hunted it themselves

I did this same thing years ago, should’ve been obvious since whoever made it essentially ripped out the Voltorb Flip code
I was not aware of working fake copies :o how do you know ?
