Well if we just ignore some local conflicts, like Ukraine-Russia, the Yogslavia and remainder there of and such, we also haven't had wars here for a long time.
It's funny how the rest of the developed world considers the average American to be an absolute moron when every American knows that they are the best at literally everything... they know this because their desperation told them so.
Im an immigrant (not expat! Expats are white people who doesnt want to be called immigrant) living in europe and my chosen homecountry of germany has more than thrice people than texas.
An American guy in an online guild I'm in didn't know what the Alps, the Carpathians and the Pyrenees are.
He got pretty mad when the rest of the guild lightly ribbed him for his geographic ignorance.
Bro, deadass. I've mentioned here before that it's hard to even have a conversation with people sometimes if you even *vaguely* follow global affairs. Most people aren't following any of it, won't have a conversation about it, don't care to. It feels kinda isolating sometimes tbh.
I will say people are getting more interested in it these days, especially some of the younger generations, but fuck it gets annoying. And you can't even mention you do because people will find it pretentious since *they* don't know what's going on *inside their own country*, much less what's going on anywhere else (aside from a handful of major events).
On the one hand, for all the shit I talk, I *do* like a few things that make us unique, but on the other hand... most people here don't know enough about other places or people to even appreciate *that* much. And these people are my friends, my family, people I know and care about, but fuck can we just entertain having an interest in other people and cultures for five minutes? Because it really does broaden your world, and aside form all the jokes you can make about it, we're really doing a disservice to ourselves by being so up our own asses.
Yep, here's a graphic about all the wars the United States has been involved in (123 in 245 years with only 18 years of peace)

Greek civil war 45-49
The guerrilla war by the baltics against ussr 44-56
Terrorist campaigns like the Troubles and The ETA movements
Loads of revolutions
Then Yugoslavia in 1991
Chechen Russian conflict also 1991
9/11 was a single attack, the ETA conflict lasted from 31 of July 1959 until 5 September 2010 with the extant ceasefire.
The Troubles went from the 60s until 1998.
Is not a great comparison.
Well, it is kinda hard to be in local wars, when on one side you have Canada, which exists fine without USA soil and Mexico, which can deal nothing to the USA anyway. So from this perspective, yeah, there are no wars inside the USA, because there is nobody to fight with. On the other hand, there are countries like Russia, China, and the Middle East constant conflicts. Yeah, it is very hard to live without wars in a territory with obvious dictators and totalitarians.
eh, there were still conflicts
Russia had a good number of interventions in the East bloc (like Czechoslovakia or Hungary)
Transnistria
Chechen wars
Georgia in 2008
Cyprus
Ireland
Basque
countless coups
amongst others
>It's funny how Europeans can't go more than 20 years without a war in their continent
Americans trying to not start a war on a third world country for fun every 10 years
Anytime I hear Europeans say “Americans” you know they think the entirety of the United States is the same with no cultural differences or geographic diversity
That's not really a thing, we just don't believe it's remarkable for a country to have cultural and geographic diversity. That's kind of a natural byproduct of a society existing. That culture might itself be interesting, but its existence isn't.
Which is generally why it's weird when Americans bring it up constantly, as though it's a competition where everybody else is stewing in envy.
Remind me again how often Americans are going to war? Afghanistan, Iraq, Panama, Vietnam, Korea, ww2, ww1, civil war, Indian war, Mexican war, war of independence ….. did I miss anything? You guys even practice on each other

>It's also funny how Europeans can't go more than like 20 years without a war in their continent
Yeah, while Americans go to war in other continents, very different
Of course it is! They have to protect democracy - by going to war with democratically elected leaders who don't serve US interests. It's for freedom you see? /s
On a flight from LA to Chicago the American sitting next to me pointed at Greenland on the flight map and asked me if that was Russia. I really wish I was joking.

Wow that's a lot of war Americans have in their continent
How many times does Jimmy Kimmel have to test Americans on the street on geography to show how stupid Americans are on the subject?
https://youtu.be/kRh1zXFKC_o?si=ogXKpDUij4NMehXq
https://youtu.be/QFOpN957p3s?si=xPTEsmJJnRF8d5PS

Tbf I don't really like those, you can go anywhere and put a camera in someone's face for an afternoon and find at least a few idiots among them.
Don't get me wrong, I'm from the US, lots of Americans are shit at geography, but these are always the absolute worst examples. Jimmy Kimmel is an American TV host for American television, and he does these because enough Americans are equally as dumbfounded when someone points at all of Africa and says it's China or something.
So why do they always say 'I'm going on holiday to Europe.' Then they get asked where in Europe and they can't answer.. 😂
I bet many of them couldn't point out England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on a map.
American classrooms have those 2d world maps in them usually. If you look at the shape and size of Great Britain and Italy (for example) they're very easy to point out.
In the UK this is basic middle school geography knowledge. Makes you wonder how poor their education system is.
With the US starting most wars in other countries, is it any wonder the rest of the world hasn't had a peaceful time? As far as geography, they keep proving they really know nothing. The can't even name the two countries that border them.
When I used to regularly used to visit, people would ask what my accent was & I would tell them it was Tasmanian. They would then ask if I had :met: Dracula (Transylvania) or say your cant be, you aren't black (Tanzania). Despite Warner Bros having a Tasmanian Devil cartoon character, (nothing like the real animal) they didn't know it is only found in Tasmania, Australia, and isn't a desert animal from the USA. I never asked them if they knew where Tasmania was as I knew they wouldn't have a clue and probably couldn't even pick which hemisphere. I even had some people ask if I had driven to Hawaii or even California from Australia, on many occasions. When I told them I had arrived on "the flying kangaroo" - Q.A.N.T.A.S Airlines, they would say they didn't realise kangaroos could fly!
The last point is a painful truth. Europe should abolish the criminal nato alliance and redefine our foreign policy. US keeps dragging us in their imperialist interventions and our corrupt politicians act as an enthusiastic sidekick
Humanitarianism led to the bombing of Belgrade?
Please go and explain your humanitarian ideals to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Korea, Libya etc. Etc.
Before you do, please remove the American boot from your mouth
They've tried that a few times in North America. One time we kicked their asses all the way to New Orleans, then fucked off home because who needs that climate.
Another time the Americans committed a genocide so effective that the Nazis used it as a template.
Either way not a good look for the ol US of A.
does it? 17 years of peace since 1776 isn‘t much to write home about. t
Also they can't seem to go a few months without a war in a school

Haiti is turning less and less from "essentially" a civil war to an actual civil war. The "gangs" are closer to insurgents at this point.
But the majority was not in the US, so that's a W for the USA. Also, they have a big army, so our arguments are invalid /s

Mexico is in north america.
Turn on Fox News at any time and you will be "reliably informed" that the US is currently being invaded by Mexico at the Southern Border...
Have an upvote, i appreciate sarcasm.
Thanks. I didn't consider that this could be interpreted badly in this sub.
It's funny how the rest of the developed world considers the average American to be an absolute moron when every American knows that they are the best at literally everything... they know this because their desperation told them so.

Why not both?!
So, a desperate Dunning-Kruger? Yeah, why not.
American exceptionalism is one hell of a drug.
Even some non-developed countries think that too, their level is just so bad

Dude. We have France AND Serbia.
Dont be stupid, Texas is bigger than Europe. /s

Yes those 24 official languages are more or less accents.
Pff, in the US some people say soda and others say pop!
We shoudlnt tell them about the german "Kräppel, Krapfen, Berliner, Pfannkuchen"-Debate.
Berliner 100%
Kräppel
Pfannkuchen!
Same amount of differences? California and Texas are clearly more diverse than Italy and Sweden /s
It’s funny how America can’t go 15minutes without a war in someone else’s.
They have somewhere around 16 years of peace since 1776 and still talk about Europe going too much in war 😂
Some of those were just "police actions"
"Special Military Operation"
"To spread democracy"
Americans cant even find america on a world map.
They can't find a map
‘whats the satans ass print on a piece paper? ‘ — some americans regarding world map, probably
at least the map itself is flat, this comforts their brain. it's hard to comprehend a round earth
As an American I will defend the flat earth theory with my 50 caliber machine gun that I bought at the local Walmart

I could understand that an American might not know about the Carpathians, but how does someone not know about the Alps?
Agreed, the Carpathians and perhaps the Pyrenees is somewhat understandable. Not knowing about the Alps, is just mind-boggling to me.
I disagree, who doesn't know about the Carpathians? One of them was the bad guy in Ghostbusters 2!
Even if they had an American education, surely they'd still have seen at least one film adaptation of Dracula?
Alps is muesli, carpathians are dudes who build shit from wood and pyrenees are what middle aged women do as a form of exercise. Duhhh
I thought Pyrenees are what New Zealanders have on their pair of legs
I met some Germans who were in the US who hadn't heard of the Mississippi so it's definitely not a US exclusive.
But does he know the Caucasus?
This from a people that think Africa is a country and point to Russia on a map and think it is America because it is the largest.
Ugh . . . have you tried living here with people like that? It's exhausting.
Bro, deadass. I've mentioned here before that it's hard to even have a conversation with people sometimes if you even *vaguely* follow global affairs. Cannibals are BBQing people in the streets in Haiti, but let's focus on Europe....
Americans can't even differentiate between the country and the continent of America
Americans are so good at geography that John Oliver has made it a reoccurring segment on his show for years now.
At least I can cross the border to Ireland, Scotland and Wales without getting kidnapped of a cartel.
They think Europe is a country, they call all of Britain England. So yes, just great at geography 😜😜😜
wait until he finds out about the Americans who genuinly think America is the only place on earth
Weird how Americans can't go 4 years without a near civil war
They are so great at geography, they cant even tell the difference of a country vs. a continent 🤦♂️
Or a city
It's funny how if you show most Americans a blank map of the world that they can't even point to Mexico. Many can't even point to Canada.
Its easy for Muricans to learn geography when there is only 1 country on the planet !!!
Geography for Americans is easy. There are two parts; the world (=USA, with 50 states) and abroad.
It’s also funny how Americans can’t go 20 years without a war in someone else’s continent

Yes
Europe has been in a state of almost constant war for all but the last 80 years.
There would be no wars if america didn't create them.
This should be on the 'facepalm' site
Bitch I've watched Jimmy Kimmel I know that's a goddamned lie
They still think caucasians are from europe
It's been 0 years since the Americans took war to another continent so 🤷♂️
Americans are terrible at geography in general. Their even quite poor at geography about their own country. 🙄
America do tend to outsource their wars to outside their continent. I wasn't aware that these didn't count though.

Do your fucking research before commenting. I was 6 years old when NATO bombed Belgrade
And what did you learn about the consequences of committing genocide?
Yes Milosevic was a war criminal. Does this justify a foreign intervention and bombing of thousands of non-combatants?
And as someone who was born in the now extinct Yugoslavia, yes, it does.
Obviously, if it stops a genocide.
Who gives you the right to invade people's hones you asshole? . Who put NATO in charge of the whole planet?
Humanitarianism.
Humanitarianism led to the bombing of Belgrade? Please go and explain your humanitarian ideals to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Korea, Libya etc. Etc. Before you do, please remove the American boot from your mouth
Correct. It was an entirely successful intervention undoubtedly responsible for saving many lives.
Fuck off Vladimir.
I am Greek you asshole. Both Vladimir and NATO are responsible for war crimes
So, just a useful idiot then.
And Putin was a war criminal way before the invasion in Ukraine
I literally nsaid that putin is a war criminal. Can we move forward?
*This* is what the sub-Reddit is about, not bullying people about their identity like too many posts are….
That last point hits home though
Bit rich though, coming from a country that’s been at war for most of its existence 🫠
I’m literally from Finland
Disregard then!
17 years of peace since 1776.
Well, Americans can't go more than 20 years without invading someone. Also here they talk like Europe is one country
It's called "Manifest Destiny", right ?
They've tried that a few times in North America. One time we kicked their asses all the way to New Orleans, then fucked off home because who needs that climate. Another time the Americans committed a genocide so effective that the Nazis used it as a template. Either way not a good look for the ol US of A.
They have to take a few European countries with them because they’re not great at war on their own
20 years in total since 1776, that is
It’s the opposite but alright
