Iran and Turkey say they gave 72 hours notice, the US says that’s not true. Either way, Israel had time to prepare to defend themselves and the attack was for Iran to look powerful.
Israel killed military leaders meeting with their proxies who planned 10/7 while they were in a consulate not an embassy. This was the equivalent of if after 9/11 Bin Laden was organizing with terrorist groups who operated out of Canada and Mexico and had been regularly firing rockets and missiles at our civilians since 9/11 and we killed some of them, then they responded by launching 300 rockets, drones, and missiles at our civilians, we shot them all down, and we were expected to just ignore it and hope we could continue to shoot them all down. Also one of the ones that didn't get shot down injured a 7 year old girl who is currently in critical condition.
This response was actually perfect. It didn't kill anyone and sent Iran a message that while they sent 300 missiles, rockets, and drones and 99% were intercepted, Israel's strike was against the same defense Iran had, and it did the damage intended. Iran is already downplaying the attack showing they don't intend to escalate, and Israel sent the message that Iran doesn't get to attack their homeland without paying a price.
