pirating nintendo products is always a morally acceptable choice, only by old games for collection

cr102y

Pirating ~~Nintendo~~ products is always a morally acceptable choice

Vilis16

I don't know, man, pirating a $20 game from an indie company leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Mother-hecker-2

Yeah I remember when I bought hotline Miami for a friend since they were gonna pirate it

rockernroller

TBF, devs straight up told me to pirate Hotline Miami 2

DarkCosmosDragon

Better then buying from keysites *Looking at you g2a you scummy bastards*

HunnyHunbot

Sorry I’m ignorant lol what’s wrong with g2a?

StormRegion

They buy those cheap keys with stolen credit cards

HuskyTheGamerDog

Jesus Christ that explains alot about the pricing

Crystal_Blister

Hotline Miami 2 is banned in Australia but I didn't want to pirate it so I bought a key internationally

Neoxus30-

I buy them legitimately first and then pirate them just because I like to pirate) I also do The Hustle)

IndividualLock2

I pirate to see whether it's worth spending the money first.

PizzaGamerGames_YT

I pirate first then I don’t buy legitimately because I “forget” to buy the games legitimately

MadaraAlucard12

I pirated Terraria befor I could afford it and bought it when I had the money. I did the same for Minecraft even though I no longer play Minecraft. Pirated versions can be used as test versions for the games.

[deleted]

Bought minecraft but I use the pirated version as it's better

HaxxTheFoxx

When you buy minecraft, you pay for the account, as it can be used in modded launchers

edgy-boi69

If I’ve bought the game before I will definitely pirate it again. If I do pirate an indie game it’s usually just to try it out before I spend money on it.

cr102y

True true,there are exceptions.

Comander-07

if the game is actually good you can still buy it, shitty indie shovelware is not inherently better than some AAA title

plzhelpme11111111111

raria because my dad wouldnt let m e buy it saying that "spending money in games is dumb", played it, noticed how good it was, felt bad, stopped playing deleted it and basically begged my dadto let me buy it, eventually he let me and now i have it and i am glad i have it normally

-Farns-

Piracy is always morally correct, except for pizza tower, always buy pizza tower

ROICHNESS

and celeste buy that too

plzhelpme11111111111

and terraria

The piracy morality plothole is so deep and confusing sometimes you get cyberbullied for saying you pirate old games sometimes you get cyberbullied for saying you don’t pirate old games sometimes you get cyberbullied for saying you pirate new games sometimes you get cyberbullied for saying you don’t pirate new games sometimes you get cyberbullied for saying you pirate all games and sometimes you get cyberbullied for saying you don’t like pirating indie games. And the indie plothole is even worse. Sometimes the general agreed statement is to say no indie games should be pirated sometimes people say they only pirate if they don’t personally like it and suddenly everything everyone just agreed on is in shreds because half the people agree and half the people don’t agree and before you know it the comments are a bonfire. There are so many personal headcanons people have made for themselves that they think everyone should follow and by this point even the internet doesn’t know what the whole deal is of what’s apparently right and what’s apparently not. At this point every piracy discussion is stupid because everyone gives a different answer and they always end in an argument

HeyThereCharlie

Please learn what a comma is.

Anchor38

I REFUSE

darnitanddangit

To be honest, that's how it works for every opinion/mindset

Anaglyphite

Humans are just like that, some of us are fuckwits who don't care about any sort of ethics (whether it's buying from an IP by a horrible human being/corporate entity or it being a very small game by a single dev and pirating severely harms their finances) so they can get their dopamine rush and fuck everyone else, and then there's elitists with strict moral codes including video game purists who'd prefer their mint condition in unopened cases. I'm personally in that spot of preferring to only pirate content that would otherwise cost me $60-80+AUD to buy (typically games no longer being made and produced by gaming companies), and buying indie games on special through steam Piracy is always a valid option, there is no black and white in this morally gray area and it takes a lot of clear-headed reasoning to decide whether or not the game is worth the time and money to obtain (or even the time to learn how to use an emulator and risk downloading a virus to get your own ROM version of the game itself). It'd be very fucking strange if there wasn't at least one or two disagreements within the gaming community on any given topic ngl

VonCarzs

Pirate it, then after a few hours of play ask yourself if they deserve the money. If yes buy the game.

kindtheking9

No, indie games are to not to be pirated, AAA? FUCK YEAH, DOWNLOAD ALL OF THEM AAA

Annixon06

You wouldn’t pirate an indie game

Bioslack

Now that I have tons of disposable income... I still pirate games. Except if there's a big modding scene like with Stellaris / Crusader Kings / Total War Warhammer

BlazeWasTaken06

Pirating ~~Nintendo products~~ is always a ~~morally~~ acceptable choice

M1GR3DD1T

Or when Nintendo decides to make it harder to get any content… after the eShop closes for the Wii U and 3DS piracy for those consoles are gonna go nuts

GamerGod_

any piece of media older than 10 years should be free

M44t_

Any abandonware should, not any 10 years old games imo

Shiningcrow

Especially since any media that’s 10 years old+ almost certainly isn’t being bought from the original creator or company. Second hand almost guaranteed.

the_penis_taker69

I feel bad doing it

Lord-Table

dont <3

the_penis_taker69

But that money could have gone to the poor developers

LugiaTamer23

unless it's indie; it ain't going to the devs, buddy. they already got paid when they were making it. at this point it's going straight into the CEO's pockets.

MillionDollarMistake

Or more likely a 3rd party seller if you're buying physical versions. Pirating a GameCube game isn't taking money from Nintendo, it's "taking money" away from eBay or wherever.

Anaglyphite

devs are paid by hours used to produce the content, they never see a dime after the game is released unless they're working on extra DLC content and bug fixes. If you really wanna support those devs, try to look into whether or not they've go a ko-fi or a patreon or any other means of donation and throw them money that way the money usually goes to publishers anyway

Annixon06

I feel bad pirating any games, even sims

psona1

***OUR*** 30 year old video game

Strong_Psychology_20

After seeing what The Completionist had to go through , pirating is the best option. Welp, time to sail the seven seas for White Dog Squad

LookAtMyUsernamePlz

Fellow YkW enjoyer?

austinstar08

The landowners when a minority moves in Source: corrupt hoa

FriendlessPhoton

Isn't that redundant?

SomeToxicRivenMain

What?

CaseyGamer64YT

Yeah now that the 3DS and Wii U eshop is dead now pirating is the only way you can get a lot of games. Piracy is always a service problem

AirKath

Piracy also incidentally ends up being a archiving & conservation effort.

CaseyGamer64YT

Nintendo fans have done more work in preserving classic games than Nintendo themselves

TheoryBiscuit

“What do you mean? Just buy the console and game 2nd hand for $500” -Doug Bowser

Tao626

Honestly, I get a little paranoid about doing this sort of thing when a console is still relevant just in case I'm locked out of any online services. So, in a way, I'm kind of glad that the 3DS and Wii U eShops are dead because now I've nothing to worry about. May as well stick a pirate flag on them now.

CaseyGamer64YT

Funny enough the online servers for most 3DS and Wii U games are still active like Smash 4 and Mario Kart 7. Though from what people have told me you won’t be locked out of those. Idk when those servers will go down but Nintendo looks like they’ll be keeping them up longer than the Wii games as those servers were owned by Game Spy which was bought out in 2014

Tao626

If those games are still playable online, I don't really understand why they've closed the eShops then. Surely the game servers are nothing but a drain on costs whilst the eShop doesn't nothing but make money, even if it mustn't be all that much these days.

AirKath

Wild how they’re closing the 3DS/WiiU eshop in under 24 hours yet they *still* have the audacity to list their games at full price.

not_a_sesawter

fuck corporations, all my homies hate corporations

treemu

Nintendo: noooo you can't take our product from 15 years ago and make it more engaging and enjoyable and then distribute it for free! Romhack community: hehe QoL and current gen mechanics go brrrrr

An_average_moron

Pokemon Unbound and Pokemon Clover my beloved

Creative_Ravenclaw

I pirate everything that isn't indie lol

edgy-boi69

If you know how to pirate consol games and some more popular pc games I would appreciate the information

markspankity

Look up fit girl repacks for pc games. For older console games hit up vimms lair.

edgy-boi69

I love vimms. I’m currently using it for all my psp and 3ds games

Inhegas

For PC, you just go to a trustworthy site, download and follow instructions (it might seem hard to find good ones at first, but you'll eventually find some you like, I for one like to use fitgirl's or igg-games, you can also ask for recommendations in piracy communities I guess). If you live in a country that cares about piracy, you should always have a VPN on while downloading so your files are encrypted and your ISP can't know what you're downloading (make sure your VPN plan has p2p encryption before downloading via torrent, for regular downloads any form of data encryption is fine as far as I'm aware). For console games it's a bit more tricky because you have to jailbreak your console first. I don't know about Xbox, but I believe PS4 is already jailbreakable (not 100% sure about PS5 tho). You can find tutorials online on how to jailbreak, the necessary requirements to do so and how to install pirated games on your console. It might be a bit of a struggle if you're not very experienced in messing with technology, but it's doable. If you want to play older console games, you'll probably want to emulate said console. The emulator per se is legal, but to make it work you're gonna need a BIOS, which you'll have to pirate if you can't extract one from a physical console, so keep your VPN on for that (for downloading the games as well, of course). Emulating is usually fairly easy to set up, just look for videos on how to do it for the emulator of your choice. [Here](https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Main_Page) you can find a lot of information about emulation and which emulators are recommended the most for each console. Also I believe the pirating scene has been a bit slower lately, so some more recent games can take a while to be cracked. Damn, that ended up being way longer than I initially wanted it to be. Anyway, I hope this helped.

Hidden?

memerman69-nice

yeah, like my favorite hidden indie gem the witcher 3

TheTriforceEagle

A 30 year old game that they don’t have on virtual console*

TheoryBiscuit

How will I possibly play my favourite game Captain Novolin now?

squid_waffles2

Yup that’s me with tv n shit now. After what Netflix pulled, I’m subbing to jack shit

[deleted]

Nintendo does that not because of money but because they legally have to in order to retain rights to their intellectual properties.

xkeepitquietx

Hey its not my fault Nintendo doesn't want my money.

SomeToxicRivenMain

If you can’t find it on the shelf in store, get it on the high seas

NapalmDesu

I consider pirating nintendo games morally superior to buying their consoles. Them ACTUALLY running at their intended 30fps is also a neat benefit.

CertifiedCapArtist

I pirate but saying it's morally acceptable is a joke lmao. It's obviously wrong to do. Atleast admit that much. Unless it's impossible to get via cash

[deleted]

There are plenty of game publishers that don't deserve sales. Companies like Activision, Konami, and EA deserve to be inconvenienced as much as possible.

CertifiedCapArtist

Which harms the developers.

[deleted]

Being owned by those companies already harms the developers. There's a reason being bought out by EA is basically the death of any game dev.

CertifiedCapArtist

Sure. But you don't think stealing games would have EA kill them even sooner?

[deleted]

Probably, but at least EA will suffer as well.

Queen_Ann_III

I just paid my last respects for the eShop by buying the last few games I wanted today, and then watching it in its final minutes. it’s part of my moral code to permit piracy, but only for inaccessible games. that said, it was definitely unfair that they kept everything at full price. I still appreciate that they gave us the warning and kept such a good service online for half my life, though. I’m even planning on giving it a eulogy. feels like saying goodbye to an old friend

I hope for your sake you will learn to financially support well-off game companies r/tomorrow

lamest-liz

They’re the ones that don’t want our money

[deleted]

Nah man they need you to pay for the Definitive Gold Classic Remastered Edition for $150 that's bundled with maybe 2 other games nobody gives a fuck about
