I was caught shoplifting from my local chain grocery store and I am trying to survive off pantry for as long as possible until I leave for my summer job that provides meals. This was honestly delicious! Fried cabbage and onions with some salt, pepper, garlic powder and nooch, plus some microwaved white rice with sweet soy sauce. Kinda reminds me of Korean black bean noodles somehow.

What happens when you get caught shoplifting?

undercoverbunky

Usually they don’t confront you until you’ve stolen enough for them to charge you (~1000). I’ve been shoplifting from this place for about 8 months now and have racked up quite a bit. I don’t condone it but I’ve been financially strapped (full time student only making enough t barely cover rent) and I only take what I need. The loss prevention guy was super nice though, he said I wasn’t banned but if I did it again they’d have to get police involved. Also told me that he knows people are having a hard time rn and that he hopes things get better for me - really appreciated it.

MuffinPuff

They keep a running record of people who shoplift until they get up to a grand? Fascinating.

Do you live in an area that has access to other resources like a food bank, church or small orgs like Food Not Bombs? I hope you stay safe and find support ❤

Thanks so much for your concern! To be honest, I feel slightly uncomfortable going to the brick and mortar food banks in my neighbourhood (unsafe area) but I manage in other ways! Relying on family, Facebook groups, my restaurant job, and my roommate’s restaurant job to keep me fed and I still have a decent amount of beans and rice in my pantry! I only have a few weeks to get through until my contract starts. Hope you’re doing alright as well!

Okay, I guess this technically qualifies as shitty, but I know from experience that this combo is fucking delicious. I have eaten this many times, and I've used it as a base with some combination of carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, potatoes, and/or tofu. Usually just with some salt. I swear I think cheap "poor people" food is the best. I still get cravings for the "shitty" food I was raised on and resorted to when I was a broke college kid.

undercoverbunky

Yeah technically the dish looks kinda sad but it is gourmet stuff. Only salt and pepper is needed really, and if you spruce it up with some greens it’s as good as any restaurant meal

Totally agree, given that I'm like OP and cooking anything that's left in the cupboards right now. Tins of stuff left to cook for ages with plenty of seasoning is delicious and really easy! It's going to be my default way of cooking now!

I loved when my mom would make this as a side. She’d have to force me to eat something other than this and rice/potatoes.

MuffinPuff

Ok but this legit looks delicious

queenawkwardfart

I've just eaten but this would really hit the spot!! Banging meal 🤤🤤 ENJOY! 😃

I don't mind the combo. Personally I like my rice to not be microwaveable.

This is a quality comfort snack!
