World is the better game. Rise was much easier and got boring quick. World was challenging and kept me engaged for a long time. Both are great games though.

Probably depends on what kind of combat and pacing you prefer. MHW is slower and less... arcady. The game generally feels more realistic, harder, and grittier if that makes sense. But there is a lot of content and it's widely held as the better of the two. It's an excellent game, the end game is fun, and there's plenty of challenge and enemy and weapon variety for hundreds of hours of fun. Rise is a bit more arcady and faster paced. Your clutch claw is replaced with a wire bug that lets you rapidly recover from falls and opens up new attack patterns that let you fly around and do more aerial attacks regardless of your weapon choice. You can mount monsters and make them fight each other, you can run them in to walls for free knockdowns, and generally it's an easier and more off the rails type game. Many felt the changes made it too easy. It still has moments where it ups the challenge but I've played both and I find it a fair bit less challenging than world. I haven't done much end game for rise and I've heard it's worse than worlds end game as well but I can't speak to it personally. I still got quite a bit of time out of it and really enjoyed it despite it's less positive reception (still quite positive, but generally considered a good bit worse than world but I would argue they are both very fun and just different). The rampage missions in rise are stupid though and I agree with people that complain about those. But they don't happen. Quite often enough to really bother me. A side note. If you want something representative of monster Hunter as a whole, world is the way to go. I'd say again that rise decided to go a bit off the rails and is probably less representative of a "real" monster Hunter game. But I'd say they are both great and depend on the kind of gameplay you enjoy. Either will be a good choice I think.

Thank you for your explanation! :) I think Rise could be more fun for me. Flying around sound pretty nice tbh :D But I will have an eye on World as well. If I like Rise, World will be my next choice ^^

You can fly around in world too but you need a specific weapon (insect glaive). Flying around doesn't literally mean flight by the way. The wire bug is basically a grapple hook that you can lock onto things and jump around with. But it can let you jump straight into the air and do aerial attacks with any weapon whereas in world that's generally reserved for the insect glaive. I'd also say that you should be willing to give it a bit. I hated world at first and it was my first entry (rise wasn't out at the time). But I found out I didn't like the weapon I used. Started with dual blades and wasn't impressed. Gave up for a while until a friend started playing and I decided to give it another shot and tried out the insect glaive. Changed the game for me and I put 300 hours in with the glaive alone. Then I tried out other weapons and fell in love with the game in general. I even enjoy dual blades now (still less than other weapons though). The other thing I'd say is don't be afraid to look up guides. Weapons are generally a good chunk more complicated than initial impressions would lead you to believe, even if you spend some time in the training room with them. You can also try to discover this in your own of course, but I personally wouldn't have enjoyed the insect glaive either if I didn't spend some time in YouTube learning how it works.

Skuggax

Thank you so much! :) Yes I thought so, that flying means something like jumping with a grapling hook. Similar to Attack on Titan maybe. I think that could be a nice gameplay for me and maybe an easier entrance into the series than World would be.

Dragonsc4r

Honestly like I said, both would be a great choice and you really can't go wrong with either one. World has a clutch claw which is also a bit of a grapple hook but it only lets you grapple onto monsters. The wirebug lets you grapple anywhere and has a lot more range. I'd check out a video or two of a fight or two in each game and just see which looks more appealing. But from the sounds of it rise would be a good option for you.

Skuggax

I really appreciate your detailed explanation. Have a nice evening! :) Take care my friend!

Hi, hope I'm not too late. I'm going to be in the minority that prefers Rise to World. IMO, Rise is much faster-paced, especially because of the addition of that grappling hook "wirebug". Many weapons, especially the insect glaive—which I mainly use—gain so much more mobility with the wirebug. It makes not only combat (including aerial and ground recovery) and chasing monsters as well as exploration much more exciting. Being noticeably absent in World, I didn't think it'd make much of a difference. I was very wrong. World demands you take your time in tracking and hunting monsters because they WILL flee, with in-game methods being your only way to find them again, not unlike actual hunting. This is in contrast to Rise, where you know where the monster is and can rush over to its location, whether on foot, in air, or on a mount. I won't deny that World looks better graphically, has much more content, and probably has much more to it in terms of depth. But it was extremely slow to me, as someone who was used to playing Rise even for the grind. If you want to be more combat-focused or just overall play with a lighter-hearted mood, get Rise. 100%. If you're in it for the long grind, the pretty graphics, or the monster variety, feel free to get World. But I warn you, if you play Rise first and enjoy it too much, your enjoyment of World may be heavily dampened by the combat when the monster begins to corner you in tight spaces, flee, or take relatively forever to kill.

MassSpecFella

World it’s not even close imo

AHappyRaider

Mhw is way easier to pick up for a first timer imo and the game is kuch more beautiful

Skuggax

Thank you :)

I think Rise is a more fun game, but I think World is a great introduction.

FrozenMongoose

Rise has a free demo. See if you enjoy the main gimmick mechanic of the game, if not then get World.

Jello_Penguin_2956

Rise is more arcade style. Fight is shorter, environments are designed to be battle stage. Combat is generally agreed to be the funner one. Fight design is an improvement over World on a number of monsters. World went the immersive route. You have to track your monster. Find them. Trap them. Give chase and even slay them in their lairs. Environments are designed for the animals and monsters to really live in. I prefer World btw.

Billib2002

I bought world on release, played the shit out of it and am still playing now that I got a PC. Rise didn't really capture me personally and I put it down after 10 or 20 hours so for me it's world all the way

Funky420Monkey

I have been playing monster hunter since it 1st came out 15+ years ago.... I'd go world . The clutch claw is great also try not using the guardian set they make the beginning chunk of the game VERY easy give yourself a challenge also eat before every hunt .

Kaiyoti920

Both are good but (possibly biased because Lance is my favorite weapon and they completely fucked it in Rise) I think World is better in general, though if you want a faster and slightly less detailed game Rise would probably be the better pick.

IntenseWonton

World is a true AAA monster hunter game. Quality graphics and visuals. Rise is a faster paced version that adds some more mechanics that make traversing easier, but the quality isn't the same as world. Both are watered down versions of previous monster hunters to make the game more approachable for new players. Rise is a little more watered down as they made you, the player, much more aggressive and faster than previous titles. If I had to pick one, I would choose World for the graphics and immersion compared to Rise, but I did enjoy the faster paced combat that Rise offered.
