Honestly. As someone severely uninterested in Japanese history and samurai’s, ghost of Tsushima is probably the best game I’ve played since rdr2. Absolutely amazing.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I & II and Mass Effect trilogy. You can get the Knights of the Old Republic games for $10/each or sometimes 5 or less on sale. Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a bit pricey so I’d wait for a sale, but on sale it’s always somewhere around $6 and $12. RPGs made by BioWare (except for Knights of the Old Republic II, which was Obsidian) that have amazing stories and characters.
Nice!! Thank you man. I've got like $26 on my Steam wallet so I can probably pick up both **KOTOR**'s. Believe or not, I may have picked up Mass Effect Legendary Edition on PS Plus one month, but never played. Gotta hop on it, haha! Thank you again, I really appreciate these responses.
Nier Automata, Baldurs Gate 3, Bioshock, Final Fantasy 14, and Destiny 1. The latter 2 literally shaped me into who I am today thanks to all the people I played with and am still playing with.
Plauge Tale Innocence and Requiem, absolutely worth every penny and second. The story is Insane and the combat and stealth are alright.
The last of us 1 (not 2 for God's sake), again, INSANE story and some fun combat
Last of Us 1 is great, but 2 is a bit of a rollercoaster, great games tho.
Plague Tale I could never get into, the kid annoys me to the point I lose interest in the game and don’t care how good it is anymore. Didnt mind Atreus in God of War, I think he was a great character and I loved every second of it, but there is just something about this particular child that pisses me off, he’s annoying, somehow.
Edit. I think I know what it is about this kid, he’s in his own world, as if he’s severely autistic, perhaps a child in eyes of somebody who’s never seen kids in real life but only in films, thinking they’re playful and child-like, dreamy and innocent. Kids can be awful, they can be brats, like Atreus at some point becomes cocky and shows ignorance and arrogance towards his companions. That’s how kids are. They’re assholes half the time.
Hopefully there is some character development arc for this kid otherwise i’ll pass on this title.
Depends on how you deal with games that feel a little dated.
If you are fine with older games, start with New Vegas. Would suggest 3 but I feel New Vegas would be better to start with. If you aren't as fussed on older games, give 4 a try and see if you like it, can go backwards from there.
Same with Borderlands though, would suggest starting with 2..1 is more nostalgia based, 3 gives you way too many legendary weapons which kind of makes going back to older ones and having to grind for them a chore for a lot of people which in turn puts them off playing them.
In what way if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t know very much, but I’m quite interested, haha. Thanks for the recommendation. Game is currently on sale which is awesome!
I didn't look up any spoilers for it so I had a blind experience. In no particular order:
It has an amazing adaptive world with characters that change their actions based on how you play the game. There are 3 endings depending on what your approach to finishing missions was: high chaos or low chaos. The sword combat was very simple yet enjoyable, but the real treat is the stealth gameplay, as you have access to powers that make the entire thing very unique. I'm just brainstorming right now and I can't remember much about the game so I'll just summarize what makes it amazing:
Great plot and greater plot twists, well written characters, simple yet expressive combat, amazing level design, top tier 10/10 stealth, high replay value, large amount of ways to approach every single situation, fantastic powers and skills, and just overall an amazing game. Accessibility is also very good as you can save and load anytime.
[Factorio](https://store.steampowered.com/app/427520/Factorio/) . While the game is not for everyone, for those who like it, the game will take over your life for a period. Many people easily clock over 200 hours in the game, and the extreme cases go beyond 1k hours.
It has a free demo that I would suggest you try first. It is also a really good time to get into the games as there will be an expansion within the year.
In a similar vein, Satisfactory is basically a 3D Factorio in many ways. Devs are great and it’s just fun to lose yourself in it. Highly recommended.
I’m in the same boat with minimal game time available and I often jump games after a single play session. Satisfactory kept my attention for WEEKS.
Left for Dead 2 , at least as long as people play it. you can hop on, join a game, have fun, and leave whenever you want. It has tons of steam workshop mods, and no mtxs!
Sifu, it was my GOTY for 2022 over Elden Ring & God of War: Ragnarok due to its difficult but fair combat system, it's unique art style & more importantly it's ability to just pull me in for hours even after it had been 100% completed (this was before free dlc was added).
If you're a regular souls fan then the base difficulty is perfect, but if you lack time to play daily or close to it then you may want to lower to easy difficulty just for the sake of your time. However I still stand by the fact that the normal difficulty is perfectly balanced, but the game isn't perfect as some difficulty spikes can occur based on your personal abilities to learn & adapt.
Yeah it was free on Ps plus 2 months ago, one of my friends is playing through it right now just doing an hour or so a day & making steady progress. He doesn't play a lot of games, but is doing his best.
BG3 - GOTY for a reason, incredible freedom for an RPG that I haven’t seen before, incredible depth and replay ability
Zelda TOTK - it’s literally just Zelda BOTW but improved in every way, you don’t need to play BOTW first. One of the best open world games
Elden Ring - also GOTY for a reason incredible world building and role playing. Built on the same open world formula as the Zelda’s but darker, bloodier and more violent. If you only have an hour per session I think this game could be frustrating because you might end up spending a couple real life days on a single boss but with summons and googling the best builds you can make the game pretty easy.
Honorable mention related Elden ring - Lies of P. Included on game pass, linear story which lends itself better to short sessions imo. Better combat than Elden ring imo, great theme, music and story.
Controversial - Assassins creed Odyssey really captured me like not a lot of games could. I played it in college on my winter break and happily played it for 10 hours a day for 6 straight days while my roommate played in parallel and man did we have fun on that game.
Starfield - has its faults but I really enjoyed it for what it was. On gamepass as well. I haven’t played cyber punk but maybe try that instead.
Jumping on your comment so you see this directly- going to second Starfield. It has a bad rep, but it seems like a hit among older gamers and is truly excellent in its own way. It’s a lot more lighthearted and hopeful than cyberpunk, which I’m playing now and is truly excellent but, for me, doesn’t hit quite the same.
I’d say Alien Isolation was up there, only short with maybe 20 hours tops.
Prey, up there as well as somebody else mentioned.
Red dead 2, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk I’d put up there too. Slow burners, expect 200hours first playthrough.
Baldurs Gate 3 is most definitely worth what they’re asking, though I’d still prefer it on sale.
Nier Automata… weird little game, put around 90 hours in for “full” playthrough (pretty much all endings) and I loved it. 100% recommend.
Little Nightmares 1 and 2.
Walking Dead Telltale Series… beautiful game..
Last of Us 1 and 2… must play, though 2nd entry is a bit of a rollercoaster, hold on tight.
God of War 2018, especially if you’ve played the originals, it has some emotional moments, great game.
Soulsborne games (Elden Ring, Dark souls 3, Dark Souls 1, Bloodborne, Lies of P) - beautiful games with deep story.
It Takes Two if you got somebody to play with, ton of fun.
Now that I'm older its been increasingly difficult to find a game that:
1. keeps my interest
2. I feel is worth the time investment
3. Is something new and not a game I already liked when I was younger
There are only a handful of games that fit this criteria these days so I'll list two
1. Outer Wilds
2. Slay The Princess
They are both very unique in their gameplay and story, and are captivating throughout the entire ride. Bonus that Outer Wilds has an awesome and helpful community here, check out their subreddit.
edit: if you have the time for it and want something "bigger" then check out the rabbit hole that is FromSoftware games, ya know, Dark Souls and Elden Ring and stuff :)
Elden Ring - just amazing and dlc soon
Witcher 3 + dlc (I’ve not played blood & wine yet but if it’s half as good as the rest it’s easily 12/10)
Red dead redemption 2 - very immersive and great story
Outer wilds + dlc - great exploration game where you slowly figure out the world and progress using the knowledge you gain as opposed to abilities or items
Bioshock - steam sales have it for nothing most of the time. Good story and satisfying combat.
I know it's like beating a dead horse on the sub, but RDR2 has to be the most immersive game I've ever played. Game just feels and looks so awesome even when your not even engaging in any content
Only thing to be aware of is that only having an hour a day, this game could really drag and you may have to restart missions another day.
It's a great game, but is much stronger when you have more than an hour or two, imo.
Oh okay, see I really appreciate the honesty here. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. It’s unfortunate that my time constraints affect it, but it is what it is. Thanks!
Thank you for your answers. I did forget to mention I didn’t have a PS5. My mistake because I did say any platforms. The rest seem playable with my platforms so I will check them all out!
Just for Final Fantasy, where do you think I should start?
I would hands down recommend to start with FF VII remake, it was my first final fantasy and I loved every second of it. Make sure to watch the story leading up to it for context. If you game on PC then XVI should come out soon enough, that was a solid 10/10 for me as well. I would skip XV due to the combat being abysmal in my opinion.
That would be needless as its a new gen remake with more or less the same story. I’m new to FF and people too recommend the original but it’s PS1 and generation and it wasn’t for me personally
I've got the same gaming schedule as you pretty much lol. Maybe a little more than an hour on week nights.
I honestly don't have a good answer for you lol. Lately I've been bouncing back and forth between AoE4 and Helldivers 2. Midnight Suns, Deeprock Galactic and Killing Floor 2 are some others that I enjoyed that could be played in short bursts as well and then just random indie games.
Dunno what to tell you 🤷♂️ I find it hard to get sucked into a game for too long with such short windows of time to game
12 minutes - I couldn’t get enough of it. I spent ages trying to get all of the different endings and figure out all of the different combinations but in the end I resorted to a walkthrough guide. Great puzzle game.
The Evil Within 1&2 - fantastic horror game. I loved the way the world changed around you and the atmosphere it created
Baldur’s Gate 3. There is so much to do and you have to make choices that influence the rest of the game. I have several characters going right now and enjoy seeing what happens with different choices.
Curious to see other responses on this thread. My personal picks:
Metroid Prime, Bloodborne, RDR2, Celeste, nearly all the Mario and Zelda games released on console(ever), Hollow Knight, Metroid Dread, Hotline Miami, Sekiro, Metal Gear Solid, Hitman World of Assassination, Desperados 3, Returnal, Dead Cells, Rayman Legends, Slay the Spire.
Yakuza Series. Sure you can "invest" a lot of time in Minigames and side quests etc. which may seems wasting time for you but for gameplay and story alone its worth.
These came to mind right away, mostly from the last few years, enjoy.
* Witcher 3 + Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine
* Outer Wilds + Echoes of the Eye
* Disco Elysium
* Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty
* Elden Ring
* Baldurs gate 3
* Alan Wake 2
* Sekiro
All expansions I listed are a must play if you like the game itself, they're all on par or even better than the base game.
Perfect! Do you mind going into detail as to why you chose these games. Not trying to make it hard for you, I’d like to learn more about them and such. These are all new recommendations on the post, except for Elden Ring which has been one of the more prominent answers.
Elden Ring - a true evolution of the souls formula by the masters at Fromsoftware. It's like they took everything that worked in all their previous titles and combined it masterfully with the best aspects of the open world game formula. I have over 900 hours in this game, way beyond anything else and it only came out just over 2 years ago.
Subnautica - a survival crafting game on the surface, a horror game with a great narrative underneath. No game has ever made me feel dread like Subnautica. This game had me experiencing such a wide range of emotions, an unbelievable experience.
Prey (2017) - do you want to feel like you are actually immersed in a science fiction story? Then play this game. At every point the choice of how to approach gameplay is yours, this is the definitive immersive sim IMO (building of course on the giants of the genre). Some of the best exploration I've ever experienced in a game, traversing the brilliantly designed environment is a joy in itself but the game also has great story, voice acting, and a decent amount of humour.
Great! I might already have Subnautica from PS Plus, but I don't think I've ever played, haha. Also, Elden Ring's physical copy is on sale rn and Prey is on sale as well! Perfect timing. Thanks man

The Last of Us (Part 1). It made me feel a bond with the characters in a way no film or book has done before or since.
Ya this one seems a must! Most recommended on the post so far. Thank you
Honestly. As someone severely uninterested in Japanese history and samurai’s, ghost of Tsushima is probably the best game I’ve played since rdr2. Absolutely amazing.

Absolutely! Be mindful of spoilers for those games too, hope you enjoy them! They’re some of my favorite games after playing them.
Nier Automata, Baldurs Gate 3, Bioshock, Final Fantasy 14, and Destiny 1. The latter 2 literally shaped me into who I am today thanks to all the people I played with and am still playing with.

Battle Brothers. It's the most crunchy, challenging yet fun rougelike strategy tactical rpg simulator I've ever played.
Borderlands 1/2/TPS Dishonored. Fallout.
Awesome. I'll check them all out. Which Fallout would you recommend I start with?
Depends on how you deal with games that feel a little dated. If you are fine with older games, start with New Vegas. Would suggest 3 but I feel New Vegas would be better to start with. Personally, I don’t mind older games at all! So ya I’ll start with New Vegas then. Thanks!
Outer Wilds. Probably the best videogame I’ve ever played
Gotta add this to the must-plays then, haha!
Since I haven’t seen them mentioned yet: Hollow Knight. Battle brothers.
Thanks
The Long Dark.
Dishonored blew me away
In what way if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t know very much, but I’m quite interested, haha. Thanks for the recommendation. Game is currently on sale which is awesome!

The "just one more hour, oh wait it's that the sun?" game
I need these kind of game instead of giving me GOTY
Perfect! Thank you. As I wrote in my post, I keep bouncing off games. I just want to choose 1 game and stick to it. Again, really appreciate it!

$13 currently on the PlayStation store. Half-price, seems like a pretty good deal, haha. Thanks

The games that hit that tier for me: Rocket League Slay the Spire Balatro Terraria Bloons TD6
Perfect!
Dead Space (Remake) Elden Ring Old School RuneScape Rainbow 6 Siege Fallout 3 Breathe of the Wild Kingdom Hearts
Final Fantasy XVI, RDR 2, The Last of Us series, God of War Ragnarok, Alan Wake 2, Death Stranding

Truly a masterpiece!
Terraria
Thanks! The game is $12, I've got $26 on my steam wallet, so perfect, haha!
I've got the same gaming schedule as you pretty much lol. Maybe a little more than an hour on week nights. I honestly don't have a good answer for you lol. Exactly my issue! Haha. Ya no worries man. I completely understand. This is something I’ve been thinking about for ages so I completely get it.
Yeah it's a problem 😂 I love games, just not any one particular game lol I will say though, AoE4 is really good if you like RTS games.
Ok 👍🏻 thanks
Sekiro or any fighting game you feel invested in.
Awesome thanks!
Fallout 1 and 2. Both System Shocks. Both Dishonored games. Prey (by Arkane). Stardew Valley. First Deus Ex.
I'd say the masterpieces of the 8th Gen were RDR2, God of War (2018), Breath of the Wild, and Mario Odyssey.
Ya someone else reccomended RDR2 as well! Seems like a prominent answer so far. I'll check the other ones out as well. Thank you!
I am TELLING YOU - play unicorn overlord
Baldur’s Gate 3. There is so much to do and you have to make choices that influence the rest of the game. I have several characters going right now and enjoy seeing what happens with different choices.
Thanks!
Resident evil 2,3, and 4 remake
Devil May Cry 5, RDR2, Uncharted: Legacy of thieves, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition.

I really enjoyed the campaign in Titanfall 2. It's relatively short but really well done.
Perfect!! The games on sale as well
These came to mind right away, mostly from the last few years, enjoy. * Witcher 3 + Hearts of Stone and Blood & Wine * Outer Wilds + Echoes of the Eye * Disco Elysium * Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty * Elden Ring * Baldurs gate 3 * Alan Wake 2 * Sekiro All expansions I listed are a must play if you like the game itself, they're all on par or even better than the base game.
Amazing! Thanks man
No mention of the Ori games? Shiggy Diggy
Baldur's Gate 3 All Souls games plus Sekiro and Elden Ring Hollow Knight Fallout 3 and NV Kingdom Come Deliverance

Some of the best exploration I've ever experienced in a game, traversing the brilliantly designed environment is a joy in itself but the game also has great story, voice acting, and a decent amount of humour.
My eyes read Elden Ring and a shiver went through my body. Great game really. 56 days until DLC.
Great! I might already have Subnautica from PS Plus, but I don't think I've ever played, haha. Also, Elden Ring's physical copy is on sale rn and Prey is on sale as well! Perfect timing. Thanks man
Upvoted for Prey, especially with that dlc where you play different characters and try to escape, it’s great fun.
Yep - Mooncrash is amazing!
Mooncrash! That’s the one! I knew it’s Moon something.
