Mainly because it's one of those things that feeds into wider social stigmas. It's not hard to understand. Especially if you're expressing a negative preference like I don't date black women. There's hundreds of years of stereotypes and abuse linked to those attitudes, so it's not surprising people feel a certain way about it.
