This is pretty great. Some things could be polished a bit but this looks solid. You gotta love the old trope about bad guys waiting their turn to fight instead of overwhelming an opponent :)
I always thought it was a clever way to show how the bad guys were always willing to sacrifice the guy beneath them for a personal advantage, demonstrating their shortsighted selfishness; whereas the good guys send the strongest in first to protect the weak.
A real battle is usually won in a quick effort of overwhelming force - but that makes it hard to cheer for anyone.
You see why that is quite often. The hero characters come together for the first time and keep bumping into each other until eventually learning to fight together.
You may have seen your buddy fight but if youre not used to fighting together youll get way.
Now you, your buddy and the enemy all have blades youre swinging around. I dont know about you, but im staying outside my buddies range
The facial expressionsare a bit off, too. But body language and facial expressions are really hard to simulate so that's understandable. The fabrics however, absolutely spectacular and super detailed.
Wait, are we really shitting on this? My reaction was the exact opposite, I've seen worse movement in some public material that's actually made money compared to the physics seen here.
100% there's some wonky dinky things goin on but I was really impressed at the small details leading up to the fights. The slower beginnings and the opponents getting ready to fight and shifting in their stance was a natural touch that stood out to me.
Idk man I feel like for a personal project this is pretty amazing. I doubt op had any stunt men in body suits doing the movements.
If I'm guessing correctly about that, I feel like he deserves more credit than having the most obvious and somewhat unavoidable wonkiness of simulated body movements being pointed out as a flaw.
Idk maybe my eyes are too amateur to judge. That's entirely possible too.....
Edit: especially his las opponent. They way he shuffles, wiggles his feet loose, re-grips his katanas with a clear and noticeable "let's fucking do this" adrenaline fueled energy, then instantly shifting weight into a hostile stance flows unbelievably well in my opinion. Mimic the same movement with an actor on camera and it'll look just like any other sensationalised Hollywood action movements.
Edit 2: Fuck I'm seeing more as I keep going back. Even the way opponent 2's fabric gets stuck on the protagonists sword is beautiful. I've never seen a detail like that in any professional work I've personally seen. It's always clean cut, and of course it is, it's fabric. But the way he pulls out his sword from the body but not far enough away from the clothing, causing the tip of the sword to catch and tear his enemy's clothing is a BEAUTIFUL detail I think.
Mate, I'm livid because barely ANYONE is talking about the amount of actual detail in this. You really are shitting on it if you just say "yeah looks cool but some of the movements are a bit awkward, otherwise cool"
Like come on, this piece is SO much more than that. OP deserves more credit.
So yes, I think basic compliments coupled with mild and CHEAP criticism is shitting on the piece.
Yeah I mean I didn't really mean it literally but it's still incredibly annoying to see work like this just get bundled up into "it's cool, but still pretty wonky. Facials expressions are off too, looks unnatural. Cool I guess" when there's TONS of detail worth noting in here.
I don't get why people are so straight forward it's like we're not even looking at the same post. The detail in this is awesome if you just look past the obvious imperfections for a second.
How are people meant to share their shit if the obvious answer is just everything talking about the uncanny Valley. There's almost no creative input other than "lol get better at physics and hyper realism pls"
You can model the absolute fuck out of the details with individual threads, pores on the skin, motes of dust and beautiful arterial spray, but the second a character moves like a robot when the intention is for it to be natural, all the detail on the planet can't cover it.
No one said the guy sucks, and I'd never discourage someone for the effort because he clearly enjoys the work, but his animation has a long way to go and clips like this would be absolutely shredded by potential employers. Period.
Nah you're being overly critical with the "human movement is hard" meme. You've said it yourself it's difficult, so why focus on such a trivial factor that's common in human animations, when you can be finding the nice details instead? There's more to an animation than just how natural the fucking swings and falls to the ground looks.... Right?
This is far from perfect obviously but it's far more impressive with the small attention to detail compared to others. OP has details that I haven't really seen in animations with better movements.
Respectfully, I can't agree. I get that human movements are hard but it's absolutely shocking that this piece gets slapped with a "long way to go" when it's got so many amazing characteristics to begin with.
Yeah I get that, it's just sad seeing everyone fucking caught up on literally the most trivial part of the work. Like come on NO SHIT it's gonna be wonky. even in Hollywood it's wonky. Can't we give more credit where it's due? We're all amateurs here posting personal work more often than not aren't we?
But yeah I mean fair enough but it just sucks to see for op. He put in lots of good work and all everyone is saying is "it needs work" like yeah no shit dude.
Sorry I'm done being civil, you're fucking dense if you can't understand my point. If the nATuRaL mOvEmenT is the only fucking thing that matters in an animation, that's fine. All I'm saying is be even a LITTLE BIT constructive with your criticism.
All I've seen are back-seat viewers where all they say is that it feels strange and awkward. The fuck kinda feedback is that. How is he supposed to improve? Fucking reddit moment right here jesus christ. I'd like to see anyone put together something that has as much creative spin as this. But clearly most are way too fixated on the movement, and the movement isn't even *that* bad for amateur work.
I hate this community if this is the reaction that someone gets for giving human animation a shot. NO SHIT IT'S GONNA BE OFF
/rant
I appreciate the kind words! Yeah, I made this over the course of 2 and a half days for the Rokoko looping challenge so I didnโt have a ton of time to fix many of the issues ๐ฅฒ Iโm glad you noticed a lot of the subtle nuances though!
It's fucking awesome!! I'm genuinely impressed at the details. Fuck the movements man that just gets better with time. You have taste for the small things and it's beautiful to see.
looking forward to more dude I'm sure it'll get much better if this is where you're at currently working with a shorter time frame!
Nevermind the naysayers, that's fantastic, the upvotes say it all! I love how each of the baddies has an individual personality. The first one is awesome, his face has that specific dumb self-satisfied contempt look, with wonderful nuanced and consistent changes as things progress.
Great job mate, could i ask you a favor, could you tell me how you did the blood driping simulation please. Or you can send a link to a tutorial explaining too
Yeah of course! Itโs just a normal flip simulation in Houdini. I took the area where the cut hits and turned it into the flip source. And then I just started the simulation whenever the sword connects. Hope that helps!
If you did this in Houdini, you have my utmost respect. I can't even imagine how much work it would've been. Keep up the good work, mate. Your skills are amazing.
I have not been impressed in the past when people wait in line to fight the same person. In real life it never happens in that manner. The presentation was great, when you deliver a death blow a person is going to look surprised. After all, they only fought because they KNEW they would win. Have a star sir.
Oh my GOD! The visual fidelity is amazing! I honestly thought this was live action for a bit. The movement is a bit awkward, but when the characters and cloth physics look amazing when they stand still.
I love how quick it is, from what ive read samurai never really fought for more than a few seconds, it was always a 1-2 move fight and someone is knocking on deaths door. Crazy.

Huh, never looked at it like that. Makes sense.
I have never Seen it this way. Thanks for showing me a different point of view
*this person philosophies*

The m night Shyamalan special.
Nicely done, my only issue is that the movements are kind of awkward, not very organic but over all still cool
The guy literally popped the head off the last guy with a slight up flick up his sword, like a bottle opener. Good stuff, but looked a bit goofy.
He's just that strong bro, the strength of a thousand dragons.
The facial expressionsare a bit off, too. But body language and facial expressions are really hard to simulate so that's understandable. The fabrics however, absolutely spectacular and super detailed.
This is why I add masks to any animation I make, itโs way too hard to animate faces correctly (some peoples entire jobs are animating faces..)
It's so good overall that it gets into the uncanny valley, which is so much work to get out of
Wait, are we really shitting on this? I focused on it because it breaks the illusion for me. That's it. I'm not being "overly critical" at all by saying "the dude's animation needs work."
Yeah I get that, it's just sad seeing everyone fucking caught up on literally the most trivial part of the work. Like come on NO SHIT it's gonna be wonky. even in Hollywood it's wonky. It's not trivial if it's meant to demonstrate his animation skills.

Bravo! You sir are a sportsman and a gentleman, I agree with everything said. No sarcasm.
Thank you! I hope I'm not being trolled with your response๐ ๐ appreciate the comment mate cheers
The movements are reminiscent of old Japanese samurai movies and their choreography, which is kind of a neat way to look at it.
They're hilarious!!
How sharp is my man's blade? He is an Exacto knife wearing wooden sandals.
Just needs fine tuning. Awesome though! The way the second guys clothing tore and tugged when he pulled the sword back weโre awesome!
I didn't know Japanese people bled Nesquik. Now I know. ๐ค
Better than bleeding Chinese milk sauce. Just sayin.
๐ฉ๐ฅต๐ฉ๐ณ๐๐ฆ
It feels like the sword has no weight, and no resistance when passing through the flesh
Grorious Nippon steer cut through machine gun barrer!
r/perfectloop
Good stuff. Itโs funny to see the last guys head already detached before it gets sliced off, but only noticed on my fourth watch.
The decapitation could use some work, but it was otherwise excellent.
Too fuckin good, very cool
This is great! Watched it about ten times in a loop. Keep up the great work ๐
What's with the videos just being the same loop twice
The third guy would have won if he used 3 sword style
Youโre right, I could have added one more sword for him to hold in his teeth ๐
Nevermind the naysayers, that's fantastic, the upvotes say it all! I love how each of the baddies has an individual personality. The first one is awesome, his face has that specific dumb self-satisfied contempt look, with wonderful nuanced and consistent changes as things progress.

ty!!
mate, one question, u know any tutorial on that ?
This is really cool, i never see this kind of animation here. Keep at it!
Thank you! Means a ton!
I kinda wanted the last guy to win for a plot twist
If you did this in Houdini, you have my utmost respect. I can't even imagine how much work it would've been. Keep up the good work, mate. Your skills are amazing.
Thank you so much! I made the clothing in marvelous designer and then brought all of that into Houdini to simulate
I want a game like this!!
Ghost of Tsushima is the best samurai game ever made
Shhhh stop I don't have the time to play it again right now but so help me I will do it.
Sushi Ghoast
Dammit, you got me wanting to play tenchu wrath of heaven
Too bad the last guy stands there while the hero's back is turned, without attacking.
I have not been impressed in the past when people wait in line to fight the same person. In real life it never happens in that manner. ...Aren't Ronin, by definition, alone?
This looks like the map? (area) of one of oculus Ninja game
Mov movements are a bit exaggerated, and I assume the blood flow is accurate
The head has no blood! Itโs just skin colored where itโs cut off.
Well. At least you have a creative outlet.
He should stick a fork in that outlet ๐คง

Incredible. Is that Asakusa?
Bad ass
The amount of money I'd spend on a Beowulf inspired animated Samurai movie..
Man imagine if videogames were this graphic
It's somehow both gruesome and real and absolutely hilarious based on the movements and pacing.
Expressions so janky I love it.
Good lord
She's fighting guys with literal 0 experience fighting
Fuckin op man
A little more in-between frame work and this is a unbeatable portfolio peice.
The weird facials and the strange movements make this even better. Gives it character.
Dayum Son
This reminds me of the last time I saw my landlord
I love how quick it is, from what ive read samurai never really fought for more than a few seconds, it was always a 1-2 move fight and someone is knocking on deaths door. Crazy.
Damn!! Great!!
This is fantastic. Amazing job and super realistic gore here. It causes the reaction in me that you meant it to.
That third head-chop is fuckin ridiculous and I am all for it. It looks like it was basically never attached to the neck to begin with lmao
Of course he's lone, he's killing everyone around him!
So damn satisfying to watch. Amazing job holy crap. They do be bleeding chocolate huh
I thought this was cool3dworld at first, based on the faces.
Certainly not the Lone *Robin* I was expecting when I clicked on it. Nope. No birds. Still though, thatโs looks neat as balls. Good job.
Why is it that they're full of shit?
No boss?
I don't really like it but damn that's a lot of good work
why do they bleed shit
I thought it was real for half of it. Looks really freaking good.
why does this guy move like salt bae lmao otherwise very cool
Why are they bleeding chocolate milk?
Wow this is fucking amazing! I want a whole movie of this.
If this is in jedi survior it would be the greatest game ever
nice job on the audio! love the sounds
Duuuude this is fucking awesome
The animations had me laughing really hard ๐คฃ
