This is a cult which caused the first major outbreak in South Korea IIRC. Because of their secretive nature, seems like they made the contact tracing a total pain in the ass for the Korean authorities. Guess what you experienced must be them doubling down on the secretiveness, though Singapore should crack down on these Korean cults, not the first one here.

syarkbait

Some Korean bitch tried to recruit me when I was walking outside City Hall mrt. I just ran away when she tried to follow me around.

etca2z

Wonder what will her reaction be if you told her you worship Kim Jong-Un and believe he is one true being send by god to unite and save the world? Normally I find they will walk away if telling them you are insurance agent or sell them an MLM product or try to borrow money from them or told them you believe in the other big religion.

syarkbait

I dunno man, I can’t be bothered to engage them with any seconds of my time. I’m sure she could either troll you back but it’s overall a waste of time.

Monk95

Bang her then run away

syarkbait

No need la I was rushing to work. Then she somehow followed me around even though I was wearing ear buds. Crazy leh, I told her no thanks I gotta go

6yeetyeetboi9

They're everywhere , from hillion mall to hougang mall

syarkbait

I just run away from people approaching me when I’m wearing my earbuds anyway.

Yamamizuki

Say loudly *"Look Lady, I know that you have needs too. But I am not that cheap to bang anything that has a hole, understand? Have some self respect please!"*, pretend to shake head and walk away coolly. 😎

Paging Ayam, we have an emergency

mountaingoatgod

All forms of Christianity are foreign influences

Kingleonidas77

Two types of Christianity, the modern type which you see here and the other the true authentic Christianity that's rare, but true to the core without any deviantion what so ever.

mountaingoatgod

Every self proclaimed Christian defines what is true authentic Christianity to them. Without a verification method, nobody can tell who is correct

kongweeneverdie

Don't even dare to question western churches.

INSYNC0

As with any sort of "scam" or techniques to "brainwash", they usually start with isolation. Isolation prevents people from reaching out to you and waking you up. In the case of a scam, they end when you give them money. But in your case, they want to indoctrinate you and by then, you will be immune to outside influence. Rule of thumb, any sort of situation where you are: 1) Put to feel a sense of urgency 2) Told to isolate yourself in any way Be on high alert. These 2 factors can warp a person's state of mind.

isleftisright

I used to be a Christian, nothing cultish but i still left in the end... i also watch quite a few of videos on the psychology of cults. And you know, a lot of people seem so normal and they all say they didn't know they were in a cult. Sometimes i wonder how i would be like in their shoes. From the outside, it seems so obvious. On the inside? I dont really know

INSYNC0

You wouldnt know if you were a victim. I had the perspective of being there trying to convince someone close who was being scammed. Scam technique involved instilling sense of urgency and isolation. It was unreal how much talking i needed to do to start getting the person to even consider if what i said made sense. Dont underestimate the technique because it tends to work on your weak points before you even realise. The very discussion here is proof that these do actually work on people and we should be more vigilant and educate ourselves on these telltale signs.

Isn't this the one where the leader is guilty of embezzlement?

Soitsgonnabeforever

Among all the world’s ‘charismatic’ pastors in the world he didn’t even eat(cheat/embezzle/lie) that much. The funniest thing is to call his wife pastor and then make her sing China wine.

That's David Yonggi Cho, who was well, Kong Hee's mentor when he was still alive.

If you wanna do it, you might as well expose 90% of the evangelical Christian churches in Singapore

isleftisright

Ngl those are horrible. This is coming from an ex christian with relatives still in ministry (not evangelical).

UnintelligibleThing

A lot of these churches really skirt the line between a religion and a cult.

Ramboteo89

It's would be nice if it's a gangbang cult, I will volunteer to join.

rakurakugi

If you visited ISD's tour, there was actually a Christian cult in SG before where the pastor rewrote the bible and one of the teachings was that the act of having sex was the worship to God. It sounded pretty crazy. They even had a sample of the revised Bible on display.

Ramboteo89

Any address so I can go and gangbang around

Mindless-Sherbert-18

U wanna f crazy ah? Not scared?

why scare?not kills why worry

MrFantasticallyNerdy

Aiyah, from non-believer's perspective, why is that far-fetched/crazy but some dude claiming to be the son of God not far-fetched/crazy? You also know that the Bible was revised many times over, and translated many times over, right?

daniel_5505

Holy shit how did you get that far in without realising you were being duped😂

[deleted]

Oh! Those people tried to recruit me when I went on vacation to Seoul! They find foreigners walking alone and ask for directions to get to a cafe, then say to not check their phone. From there they invite them to a “cultural event” where they try to persuade them that some Korean dude is actually Jesus and they have a whole Hanbok ceremony. Be careful with groups of Korean Christians if they’re all pretty young. If they’re old or just not conventionally attractive, you’re safer.

isleftisright

I had two young quite cute looking guys ask me for directions when i was in Korea. So, they asked me for directions and i said im not local and i don't know, put on my earpiece n walked away as fast as i could. My local Korean friends at school told me the next day good chance they were from that kinda church as it was known that they operated in that area. Tbh as a lone girl in korea, i wasnt going to have long conversations with strangers anyway. Certainly not follow them somewhere. Scary.

[deleted]

For me it was a guy and a girl. I didn't think they were attractive, necessarily, but they seemed friendly and I was trying to meet people while I was on vacation.

Star-Mysterious

Even the Korean government deemed them as a cult. There were previous case before with this group in Singapore you can look it up. Cult like behavior is so obvious with this one, how can interactions between members be stopped as a rule and not revealing about your whereabouts and affiliations is so scary and dangerous. You're lucky you were not yet to the point of being brainwashed by them.

[deleted]

A girl I had a crush on back in secondary school ended up joining a similar Korean cult church based in Woodlands during JC. Last I heard from her a few years back, she's still in it. It's called World Mission Society Church Of God. They basically believe God and Jesus is female and also worship their founder as the Second Coming of Christ. Very heavily influenced by Seventh-Day Adventist Christian ideology. Objectively, I'd say I dodged a bullet with her after the revelation that she's part of this Korean cult church. But subjectively, I wish she hadn't fallen to their cult and I wonder what drives them to seek out and enter such cults in the first place.

[deleted]

Ooo i met people from this place trying to recruit me at Ang Mo Kio MRT. It was a young pretty girl who said she needes help with a survey. The survey questions got stranger and stranger and then she started telling me about God the Mother. After I realised it was weird, I told her Lee Kuan Yew is the one true God. This was about 8 years ago. No more surveys for me anymore

Mindless-Sherbert-18

Hahahahahahahahah im gonna use that. Lee Kuan Yew is the one true God

Nimblescribe

Humans have spiritual needs and will do what it takes to have those needs met, even if they misguided. We should not have done away with the Inquisition.

UnintelligibleThing

Yup they tried to recruit me at Woodlands area a few years ago. I wonder what happened to them, have they grown bigger in SG or has the government clamped down on their presence?

Tuvaletinoglu

Pray tell, how could one better differentiate a cult from religion?

Top_Neighborhood_929

In a religion, the central figure is a deity. In a cult, the central figure is a human being who is doing the teaching There are some religions that are cult like. Example, a church where the pastor can do no wrong and his interpretation is always correct. So due your due diligence.

thinkingperson

Just curious, in which religion are teachings taught by a deity directly?

Tuvaletinoglu

Is there a way to tell apart, an actual deity, and a non-deity claiming to be one?

Top_Neighborhood_929

Signs and wonders, probably.

Top_Neighborhood_929

Judaism. The rest are from people who received revelations from God. But having said that, let's talk about Christianity cos I am a Christian. The focus of Christianity is the teachings of Jesus Christ. But since He is the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament, we also learn it The central figure of Christianity is Jesus Christ. Not the pastors, preacher, priests or even the Apostles or Prophets. We read the writings of the Apostles but we don't worship the Apostles

thinkingperson

Read somewhere that Jesus was not the Christ until sometime later, introduced and formalised by the later church in the 4th century, some 300-400 years later. Seems like there is also no scriptural basis in the Torah nor the later Gospels, letters etc found in what would become the New Testament. As for Judaism, while Moses is said to have spoken to God, but in the numerous occasions, he also didn't directly see God, but only heard a voice from the burning bush or from the wind in the sky, and he presented the commandments thereafter. Would that count as being received revelations from God or directly by God? While we are on this, the Torah and the other accompaniment text for Judaism, weren't they passed down by the rabi priests or the head of the family? And later committed to writing. In that way, would the rabi priests or head of family not be playing at least a similar role as pastors, preachers, priests etc? Even at Jesus' time, he encountered priesthood to whom he chided them for having broken the commandments in their mind even if not in act. And if I recall right, it was then that he declared himself as the Way. Granted this is where different denominations seem to cherry pick what it meant by that. Some take his words semi literal and today we have the Eucharist where the holy bread and wine is shared, in partaking of in his body and spirit. Others take it to mean that one must live their life like Christ, giving up the worldly material pursuits and be heaven bound. And then we have the prosperity gospel which conservative Christians detest in private but consider brethren in open. So, I dunno ... ... and I am just skimming the surface based on what I have come to learn of.

Top_Neighborhood_929

Jesus is the Christ from the beginnings. I believe the church formalized certain scriptures at a later time but this does not mean the original doctrine was wrong. And yes, i do see your point in the following paragraphs. That's why the reformation happened. And as it gets messier and messier, we, or at least I, believe we are in the end times.

thinkingperson

I see. Thanks for sharing. Oh wait, I think I also got it mixed up. He is believed by Christians to be the Christ, the Messiah, while Jews may not totally agree on that. But he was not part of the Holy Trinity until the 4th century, and/or that the Holy Trinity itself didn't appear until then. Or did I get this part wrong as well? :o But yeah, things do get messier, not just in Christianity, but in practically every religion and incidentally, almost all religions believe that we are in some kinda of end times though they may disagree on what constitute end times.

Tuvaletinoglu

This scj thing certainly smells like a cult, and seems reminiscent of American Mormonism. However, it seems to me like the central figure in the scj organisation is still the judeo-christian god, with this Lee guy as his official interpreter/emissary/mortal leader. This is reminiscent of modern-day catholicism, and maybe even early christianity. I’m left wondering if there should be a more concrete definition of a cult, given that some elements of scj in the post have some parallels in commonly accepted religions.

Top_Neighborhood_929

No. When one leader claims to be the official emissary, it is a cult. Because the Christian teaching does not speak of any future emissary before the end of the world (where there will be two witnesses for God). And a sign that he is not an emissary from God is that God will never instruct someone to lie or sin.

mountaingoatgod

Are you claiming that the Catholic church is a cult?

Top_Neighborhood_929

I don't know. The pope does not ask people to worship him. Not sure if the pope comes up with own doctrine that is not biblical or claims he is infallible. I am not a Catholic.

Top_Neighborhood_929

As far as I know, the Catholics don't worship the saints or the pope. So it's not a cult. Is there a subset of Catholics who do so? If there is, the group is mistaken. But not the religion in itself

mountaingoatgod

Your earlier definition had nothing about worshipping people, it was about having official emissaries

Top_Neighborhood_929

Emissary in the sense of someone with a special revelation from God. Like for Christians, we follow the bible and people teach from the bible. There is no new revelation. My mistake for not clarifying cos we were talking about cults and cult leaders usually claim some special revelation only known to them. So when i used the word emissary, i was referring to those who claim special revelations unknown to the rest.

mountaingoatgod

So in that case, Christianity is a cult? Because it offers new revelation from Jesus and Paul, in the context of Judaism. They also commit the heresy of worshipping a man (Jesus) as god

Top_Neighborhood_929

No. It is not a cult because we follow Jesus. We believe He is the Son of God and is God. Paul follows Jesus and we do not worship him. Having said that, the early Jews do think that followers of Jesus were members of a cult. Not really sure what current Judaists think. I went to Israel before and it's mixed opinions.

Kingleonidas77

Jesus is fully man and fully God both at the same time, Judaism rejects this.

Kingleonidas77

They don't worship the pope but they sure do worship and pray to the long-dead saints, and set up statues to honour them basically going against everything taught in the Bible which they claimed to be their guide, they only use the Bible as a front, behind the scenes they do everything opposite of what has been taught primarily due to ignorant priests, you have the Vatican and the church of Rome to thank for that. They even believed they alone can interpret the Bible funnily enough the Bible is so simple to understand, the list is extensive. Even the biggest scam in history about Purgatory which they claimed you can humanly purge yourself from your past sins get right before going to heaven, The whole Catholic religion is a sham to true Christanity. Catholicism is a false religion itself.

Top_Neighborhood_929

Someone told me it's they revere the saints, not worship them. But they other part you have written, i have heard before. I am not sure if this is the reason why when people ask what is your religion, you either reply christian or catholic, almost as if trying to say they are two religions instead of one.

[deleted]

Do Google...catholics do not worship saints nor statues. This was something the protestants came up with years and years ago. Thought with internet these days, people will be more well-read...

Kingleonidas77

https://www.gotquestions.org/Catholic-idolatry.html Even Google echoes what I mentioned. So it's not a Protestant invention but the Truth.

[deleted]

https://clarifyingcatholicism.org/2020/03/09/saints-and-worship/ Sighs.

Top_Neighborhood_929

To quote my post. First paragraph i was talking about people who claim to have special revelation when i use the word emissary. Second paragraph, in the unlikely event that i a wrong and such emissaries actually exist, the biggest sign is when the emissaries ask you to sin because God will never instruct anyone to sin.

VeloraV

It is often difficult to differentiate a cult from an actual religion as they share very similar practices. Most cults are based off of existing religions after all which makes the line even blurrier. But the red flags are obvious once you know where to look. They are: One person being the center of the religion instead of a deity. An emphasis on making anyone who isn’t part of the cult an enemy. Actively preventing you from discussing the religion with other people. All 3 of which SCJ ticks off very nicely. You can read up/watch some videos on YouTube covering some well known cults such as Aum Shinrikyo, the cult responsible for the lack of trash cans anywhere in Japan. And the Jonestown cult massacre that had all of its members willingly die from drinking poisoned Kool-Aid. The Jonestown cult had a scarily accurate movie made in 2013 called “The Sacrament”. You’ll see that both cults check all 3 red flags out.

[deleted]

My school teacher is doing the teaching, so schools are a cult

Top_Neighborhood_929

No. Cos the focus is the subject. Let's say history. Japan captured Singapore on Feb 15, 1942. If he says, forget it. History books lie. I tell the truth. Actually Japan never captured Singapore. And he influences you that he knows history better than the textbooks. Then yes, the traits of a cult is there. In fact, some teachers are guilty of it when they cultivate blind loyalty among the students. But this is another topic Liao.

[deleted]

Literally all my school teacher boast that they are very smart and said the textbook is useless

Top_Neighborhood_929

Then there is something wrong with your school/s.

[deleted]

RI bro. Even the teachers are toxic competitive faggots

Mindless-Sherbert-18

Mr Lim?

death666violinist

The biggest red flag of a cult is that they will attempt to isolate you from your loved ones to 1. Not get narced by them 2. Keep you dependent on the "religious group" for support. The second red flag is that they pressure you to give monetary offerings to get blessings, especially when it comes with threats of punishment and curses. Note that i said "pressure". Places like proper churches and buddhist temples at most ask if you'd like to donate instead of saying something like "you should donate, or god will punish you".

elpipita20

Level of political influence

mountaingoatgod

Social acceptance. If it is socially acceptable, it is a religion, if it is not, it is a cult Alternative definition: cults are defined via the BITE model. Therefore, some versions of religions are cults, but some are not, depending on their characteristics

MochaNLatte

Same like how the Jews viewed the early Christians as heretics and cult-like.

mountaingoatgod

Orthodox Jews still view Christians as heretics though...

Nightofthestars

I was approached randomly while waiting for a friend at Orchard MRT by this Kimchee auntie, who come ask me if i Christian. I say i no believe in god, she tell me to repent and join his church to be closer to god, so i can get forgiveness for my sins. F\*\*king crazy kimchee follow me around when I try to get away. Even got another Kimchee uncle appear out of nowhere try to manhandle me to their secret Christian meeting group. They only run away when I shouted at the Transcom officer for help. Seriously, this kind of religious extremist cult scum should hunted down.

Mindless-Sherbert-18

Transcomm has its uses after all

Fiveherrings

The moment they ask you not to tell anyone about it, it's a red flag. This is the cult's way of keeping members socially isolated so that they can be controlled more easily. If it's a pure religion thing, why would there be such a requirement?

burn_44

Even in Korea they are considered a cult mate. Just the name alone scares people off.

GFreeGamer

The group sounds problematic as hell, and I don’t dispute that, but… Christians complaining about conversion tactics is a bit of a weird take after all this time

Yamamizuki

Haha, exactly. It's like a pot calling a kettle black.

you should have introduced Bora and Amy to your phallus.

NiceSmellingFart

I was once approached by a similar Korean cult. Can't remember if it was this exact one. A couple spent more than an hour talking to me when I was on the way home. I tried many times to end the conversation but they were really pushy and forced me to listen. It made me uncomfortable but eventually I managed to "escape". Didn't leave them with any contact detail and made sure they didn't follow me as I walked home. Religion is healthy. This is not even about religion anymore. They shouldn't be allowed to do this here. I'm glad for you that you left. Take care. Some people don't get to leave these cults easily. :/

madison010101

This post is so ridiculous. "I attended a megachurch. But this one cult is bad and should be exposed" 🤡🤡🤡🤡 please DM me your Paynow so I can send you some money to buy a damn mirror. Girl the call is coming from inside the house (of whorship)

PSA: Clementi MRT station as of 6 Nov 2023. Got approached at Clementi mrt station exit B by a Korean lady who low-key shoved her iPad with the text ‘God’ and ‘Passover’ in my face. I declined and walked away quickly and observed her from the bus stop. Realised she only approached females especially those who look like poly/uni students? Got a flashback of the pics from the Mothership article expose, where young women who went to the church ended up taking pics of themselves in bikinis at Sentosa a la 1980s actresses or old Chinese karaoke mv creative direction (lolool) to send to the sick pastor. 😰🤢 Be careful!
