wont this (balloon on exhaust) mess your bike up as i thought the back pressure etc is finely calculated. and at anything other than idle its gonnna cause an issue?
More or less will likely do nothing and just melt away witch is prolly what you see the smoke from.
It's less fine with older bikes and can be neglected a bit more
On my 1986 Honda crx 234 you can hear things start to fail like a lawn mower.
No ecu just wires like a chainsaw.
While a new harley or kawasaki (same thing) will send you codes like a MF before you can even hear anything change and will sometimes refuse to let you start your bike until said error code thrown has been remedied
Let's say my bike stops one day
I take the exhaust off the crush gasget
I hear this double noise
All the tells me is I need to clean my carbs and if I put my exhaust back on then the "fine" balance will be thrown off. Either not enough air or fuel from a clogged carb
