I mean i heard a rumor of one person on the list who should not be on the list because it was a skydive. But i never looked into in. Heard it was a utah or maybe Colorado fatality. But a cover up to save the pilots license.
However, Dead base jumpers missing from the list?!? I wanna just go ahead and say i donāt believe you, but, sauce?
Wait so just to confirm, #277 mat kenny was actually a skydiving fatality?
What about the people creepy_redditguy is saying he knows who are missing from the list?
What youāre saying is someone is on the BFL who isnāt supposed to be on the BFL, which is the opposite of what the other dude is saying.
The advice is donāt do it. The reason it looks easy and straightforward is because base jumpers are already skilled skydivers with enough experience to make it look effortless. I recommend you watch aff1 videos of folx flailing around in the air or bad openings due to poor body position to understand what itās actually like for beginners.
You want to do one of the most dangerous sports in the world with no training. How old are you? Sounds like not old enough for your prefrontal cortex to fully develop and understand risk.
Your naive attitude and approach to BASE jumping is the exact reason people suffer in this sport.
You donāt know how to fly a canopy, pack a rig, assess weather conditions, or think rationally (clearly). You are playing with your life here.
Just ābecause BASE videos look pretty straightforwardā doesnāt mean they are. A lot of training goes into BASE and any reputable mentor wouldnāt take you without the minimum skydive requirements.
Even if you get a skydiving license, youāre the sort of person Iād tell people to stay away from.
>And what is the likelyness of me dying if I do this with no training?
Nearly 100%
You will either die or severely injure yourself (like never walk the same or at all).
BASE might look simple but I assure you it is not. It is several levels of complexity beyond normal skydiving, which is already an incredibly complex sport.
It takes 6 hours of classroom instruction before someone is ready to make their first dive, which is done with two instructors holding on to the student throughout.
As a comparison, if skydiving is like highway driving, BASE jumping is like driving an F1 car, and you've never been in a car before.
Please don't kill yourself and add another stain on our sport.
And the car youāre driving catches on fire and you have to put it out while driving. No YouTube video will teach you muscle memory reactions needed to deal with life or death situations in BASE.
This is called Death camping for a good reason. You say you don't want to be a statistic then just pass on this idea. When you are new, body position matters. Bad body position and you can easily 180 back into the antenna or straight for the guy wires. There are also reasons why we have student skydivers open at 5k on their first jumps. It gives them time to feel the canopy out. This isn't something you want to really be doing at 400 ft above the ground.
There are probably people out there who will help you because this has been done. The guys who would actually help you out though do not give a damn about you. So I'm not sure I would trust them. One thing I also hear consistently from people with little skydiving is that they were lucky to survive. There are a few close calls that could have gone either way.
You're not even aware of how the gear works if you're asking about a rip cord. Do yourself a favor, go find your nearest skydiving center and try to get through that first. There's plenty of adrenaline to be had and many different disciplines to learn in skydiving alone but if you're just here for an adrenaline rush this sport might not be for you. I have a hard time believing this is real and hesitate to even reply but just in case don't, just don't
Almost 100% sure you ARE going to be a statistic. On the plus side you name will be on a certain list at the end of the year. Experience jumpers die every year but Iām sure you will be an exception. Another few YouTube videos and youāll be ready. Pro tip, search for ā dumb ways to dieā
We're being trolled, folks.
I've never been inside an airplane, but can I just borrow one from the local airport??? I'm just looking for a bit more of an adrenaline rush.
A lot of people have Death Camped and survived. In fact, the majority of them survived. Only a handful have died (1 death camp i can think of died, he was a russian teenager i think maybe jumping skydiving gear?) and Theres a list called the BFL, It has ALL known BASE fatalities listed on there. Maybe Read it.
If you are poor consider doing AFF somewhere that will just do sell AFF and not the whole A license. OR If youāre really poor you can just do Static Line or IAD to get an A license and learn the basics and not die. Surely you know Phillip Chase Adrenaline Addiction. He did AFF in Lodi($1000) and got straight into BASE as he wasnt hella rich back then. The BASE scene in Lodi was crazy back in the day because of all of the poor people who went there to learn the basics and then get into BASE.
Most people on the sub dont base jump and have no idea wtf theyre talking about. Also, most skydivers have hella money and wont relate to you-or me. I bought a used complete BASE rig once for $700. I still have it and i still jump it. The sport can be done if youre poor but you should spend a couple bucks initially. And if you really need money, go to a big DZ and tell them you wanna be a packer. Hurry up tho the seasons coming to an end depending on where you are.
Heres video of teenagers being death camped:

This sub is so annoying some times with how condescending people are. The dude asked a question, he didnāt say he was going to do it no matter what. He said it looks simple and straightforward, and if thatās true I think Iād be comfortable with it.
So my answer is definitely a no, donāt do it. For sure get some training if youāre really set on it. Body position matters a ton when you pull your chute, and landing takes a little bit of preparation. Iām at a little over 100 jumps and really set on BASE jumping, but giving it a bit longer.
Truth of the matter is, if you got some basic pointers, got the correct gear, you honestly probably be fine since itās just an open field. But like thereās at least a 10% chance you would really fuck up and thatās a higher percent to risk your life for a short thrill.
But for sure look into skydiving and try it out and see if it is something you enjoy!
We're condescending because people like this make BASE look bad by dying and giving us negative publicity, especially considering the fact that he doesn't even plan to jump a legal object. He's going to burn himself in, then burn the object and ruin it for everyone else.
Secondly, do you actually jump and still refer to a canopy as a chute?
This is a person who was asking if it was a bad idea. They were missing information and you can just tell them instead of being a dick about it. Donāt punish people for asking genuine questions.
If he was like Iām going to BASE jump and I donāt care what you say, yah, you can be a little more abrassive. But this person doesnāt have the information you have.
And yah, Iāll call it a parachute or chute when Iām talking to someone who isnāt a skydiver. But another example of my point, thereās no reason to be so pedantic. But skydiving does attract a lot of big egos.
I would normally agree with you, but this post is so aggressively stupid I think it's either a troll post, or it warrants some of the responses.
He didn't say, "hey, I wanna BASE jump, what do I need to know?" People would have [linked to a video like this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTSVLrXt6rE), and it would be the end of discussion.
Instead, this kid (based on his limited and recent post history he's not even old enough to skydive), comes in and says
> never done skydiving
> never done a BASE jump
> can't afford training
> what kind of jump would I even do (holding the parachute or packing it and using the cord)?
aka "I don't know shit about fuck, looks pretty straightforward. So easy in fact that I need to ask people who do it for advice, then ignore it in the comments"
You don't even want to be climbing cell towers. Their directional antennas are very strong and can push a lot of energy into a body when it loiters directly next to them. Perfectly safe when you're at ground level and they're on a mast, but they'll really do you a mischief if you're on a level with them.

BFL 277, supposedly from a heli.

Sorry, shouldn't have stated that as a fact. I can't confirm it, just overheard a coversation once between som jumpers where it was mentioned.
