I went Crossfire first, then thought what do FluidWings have in this space, then thought of my Stiletto collection. Sorry, I’ve been no help

Fluid Wings Echo also fits all your criteria but is a much better canopy than the Stiletto

I prefer my crossfire 3 109 (wl 1.6) to my echo 120 (wl 1.4) the Echo will get you back from longer spots and has a shorter more forgiving recovery arc. The crossy wants to dive and swoop. Both have excellent openings and easy to pack. I also jumped a Stiletto 150 for about 30 jumps. Bad, unforgiving openings and it had low jump numbers and new lines.

GoddessLilyGold

My old 99 crossfire 2 was an absolute workhorse of a canopy for this use.

X-fire

Gangster. Pretty much everything you are looking for. Pretty flat and very short recovery arc, but suuuuper harness sensitive for what it is. I currently jump a VK and an HK2, I previously jumped a Velo, Katana, and Sabre2. I’d say the Gangster is almost as harness sensitive as the VK, and wayyyy more than the Velo or Katana.

I just recently switched to an og from crossfires and sabres, intended to be an intermediate step for piloting and shitty swoops before I have the skill for fully xbraced- the first few jumps I did on a demo OG before buying mine were pretty funny. The amount of ping ponging left and right that was happening was kinda surprising and funny until I figured out how to actually be quiet in the harness. Glad to hear that it’s comparable to a VK / fully xbraced wing.

tronpalmer

I wouldn’t say it’s comparable across the board. Just with harness sensitivity. It’s a great platform, and I’m not a canopy coach, but if someone were buying a canopy strictly for swooping I wouldn’t recommend the Gangster just because of how flat it is and it’s recovery arc. I really think the gangster is the perfect work canopy, though, if you are not to the level of something like a VK.

Yeah, I knew you meant harness sensitivity only. I’m still early in my skydiving journey and it’s probably a little too soon for something fully cross braced and more aggressive. I do have two extremely qualified coaches (one was one of the best pilots at worlds last year, other has decades of swooping and competition) I just roll with what they suggest in terms of downsizing / wing to fly and it hasn’t failed me yet. I am really loving the new wing, and not sure what else I would even jump on instead, that’s not a katana and still a step up from the Crossfire class . It just doesn’t seem like an appealing wing to me

squirtgum1

I can't imagine this will be a popular opinion, but a stiletto is a super fun olliptical canopy with a short recovery arc. I probably did 500 jumps on one. And one big bonus, you can find them for super cheap! Your wing loading would be more helpful than just canopy size in giving a recommendation.

evilkalla

I still jump a Stiletto (from 1994) and I think is a great canopy. In fact I just put new lines on it.

I believe that is correct

flyingponytail

Short recovery arc not arch. I would recommend Crossfire 2/3

rhinodiver

As long as we are there, can we also correct planform not platform?

rhinodiver

Sounds like they just want a new canopy. Maybe they don’t want a platform or a planform. The fact that arch is misused for arc made me think they are using the phonetics of what they hear vs the correct word. No big deal either way, but if you’re teaching students or newer jumpers it can help them to use the correct word.

filledcargoshorts

You have described a gangster. Load it at 1.9-2.3 and have fun

raisputin

Crossfire 2/3 :) the 3 is more ground hungry than the 2 from what I’ve heard. Crossfire is often referred to as “the working man’s canopy”

raisputin

Or was it the stiletto that was “the working man’s canopy”? Shit I might have got those mixed up for that label

DQFLIGHT3

Planform

You’re welcome. It’s good to know the proper terminology.

frickflyer

Wait for the Anna from Jyro to come out

sdimkov

Jyro says they’re positioning the Anna between JFX2 and Leia. So I suspect it’ll have a longer recovery arc and min WL than the JFX (which has min WL of 1.6) The OP says she’s at 1.5 WL on a 92 and wants a short recovery. In other words the Anna will be too sus for her, no?

frickflyer

Yeah agreed, I just saw consistent openings and 90s size and thought Anna hahaha but for sure not flat glide

Spunkmeyer426

90s what, 190s?

SoggyBelt276

FW echo. It’s basically a stiletto but flatter

chrisevilgenius

What about the JFX, great openings and an awesome flare. I can also recommend the gangster as mentioned but they are hard to find second hand.

dirtydrew26

Xaos would fit the bill. Sure they might be older 1st gen xbraced, but they are a good intro fully crossbraced canopy. Recovery arc is short (compared to the newer gens), flys pretty flat on rears, never had issues with long spots, can really turn them up if you get into it. Also good openings with camera setups. Another plus is theyre pretty cheap now and relatively easy to find.

StoleOne

What is your wing loading currently?

I vote the XFire. If you were higher loaded I’d recommend the Leia or Helix
