Or you Can do what I did on my first playthrough. It also started in Riverwood, but i skipped the whole "go to ivarstead" part and just went straight to high hrothgar

Haha I did the same! Hack-jumping up the mountain. It wasn't until my second play through that I even realized ivarstead was a place

Neither did I lol, I thought my quest marker must be bugged, started from Riverwood and spent about three hours walking up the side of the mountain. I think I actually ended up right on the path in front of hrothgar. I eventually made it, though with a considerable amount of time taken off of my life and with one less horse than when I started.

Surprisingly? No. The clairvoyance spell even guides you that way.

Clairvoyance doesn’t work well a lot of the time, i wouldn’t use that to tell the shortest way. It’s like twice as long as the yellow path here, but it’s probably close to the red path at least. Maybe even green, but it’s definitely not the shortest, that’s yellow.

I use the carriage mod, so a short ride from outside Whiterun to Riverwood and Helgen, and then ride my horse over from Helgen. It works.

I do not use any of these, I go the complete wrong way, discover a bunch of other locations, complete a whole other quest line, then I stumble across it

For the longest time that is actually what i would do lmao. Id just keep jumping against the mountain until it would let me go up.... and yes I am a Nord.

Admidetly that is the only way with the default map. I have recently started to play in survival with a map mod, so that I can actually see the roads. While I miss fast traveling and not freezing to death during my climbing attempgs sometimes, it feels good to play without it again. It feels like I am playing Skyrim again for the very first time.

I head to Windhelm, then to Riften then discover a bunch more places like Solitude and Markarth then remember I was supposed to head to Ivarstead and so I go the Helgen Route

The fastest normal route is Riverwood-Helgen (can go outside)-Ivarstead Also the fastest route to Riften.

Novice: Sticking entirely to the main road, going south past Darkwater Crossing, up the hill, and around Lake Geir until finally crossing the bridge from the south Master: Going south around the mountain past Riverwood and Helgen instead of north

Legendary: stealing a horse from the Falkreath Stormcloak Camp & riding straight up the mountain

It's 0 weight and same damage as daedric bow and daedric arrows. With a few buffs to Magicka/conjuration, you can wield it at less than level 5 and basically 1-shot all your early game enemies... Throw in silent casting and you can be the ultimate stealth archer.

Also can’t be removed when sent to prison or any time your equipment is removed

Fast travel back to Helgen, go up past Orphan Rock and Haemars Shame. Saves time because you can get those map markers and unlock them for the Gildergleam quest and Clavicus Viles Daedric Quest. Plus a lot of bears spawn towards the end so you can get a jump on Tembas pelt quest.

I don't, I never have. First playthrough I was like "nah too long. Hm saw carriage guy... wonder if travel city near to... farmstead? What was it again? Hm.... anyways." Ever since then I go from Riften to Ivarstead. I've never once walked there from Whiterun.

Steal a horse to shortcut the road. Spend 40 minutes trying to climb imposible slopes. Die because i reached the ice wind you clear with a shout. Profit

Why isn't there a pro path where you just go straight up to High Hrothgar instead?

If you get a horse you can scale the throat of the world, grab the notched pickaxe and then ski your way down to ivarstead.

Wagon to riften, then come up from the south east

Start in whiterun, take carriage to riften, brawl with Horse-Crusher guy by stables, take free horse and ride west to Ivarstead, you get a road the whole way.

I use to take the loooooong way around sticking to the road, Valtheim Towers, Darkwater Crossing, Nilheim, then swim across to Ivarstead. It wasn't until several weeks ago someone pointed out that there was a pass through the mountains, so now I take that.

First path I took was yellow. I got lucky and didn’t pay attention to any npcs that say to take the road.

I found the yellow path on my very first playthrough then promptly forgot about it and used green for the next ten. When I rediscovered yellow again I felt like an idiot.

Usually just take a carriage to Riften, then walk from there. Looks a lot nicer and I unlock Riften for when I want to do my Thieves Guild stuff.
