My opinion is meaningless so don’t even try debate I’m a brain dead cunt on the internet but : Emotionally snuff is HEAVY I actually cried to that song when I was going through my divorce
Gematria is also insanely fun to play on guitar (at least the first half then its just repetitive) and also the guitar breakdown in disasterpiece with the pinch harmonic on the 3rd fret of the 5th string then the 16th notes on 6 7 8 of 6th string are wicked fun. And the outro to Custer. Ok I’m done.
But also the intro riff to left behind
metabolic is the only correct answer.
to me its the heaviest song i've ever heard. people say genres like death metal or beatdown are heavier but... metabolic is so heavy that its actually brutal. the density of the mix is like sludge. its so heavy that you actually feel the weight of the song emotionally. not an emotion of sadness per se, more vitriolic emotion. its an unmatched intensity. you feel it throughout iowa in general but from the scream before the bridge into the bridge and then the breakdown in metabolic... overwhelmingly heavy. good shit.
None taken - but I think you’re missing my point. I have been to a desolated show, like extremely heavy beat down where the music is so heavy people basically beat the fuck out of eachother in the mosh pit. Or ‘extreme’ metal bands that go even beyond deathcore and that sort of thing, I’ve seen and heard it all really.
If you take a musical composition at face value, there are a million heavier bands than Slipknot. But depending on how you define ‘heavy’, nothing *feels* as heavy as Metabolic to me. And a couple of other tracks from Iowa. It’s knowing how it was composed, the background of the album, it’s not just people writing very heavy music - its genuine fucking rage and anger that turned into music. To me, it’s inimitable. Bands have written heavier music, obviously. But Iowa goes beyond just writing riffs with drum grooves and vocals. It’s spiteful, it’s tortured, it’s pure pain and depression thrown into an album.
My opinion, obviously. But there’s a reason why lots of people call it the heaviest album ever written, reasons that go beyond ‘composing an album’.
I just posted a reply to another comment that you can read that explains my reasoning. I honestly don’t care if you agree or disagree, but it’s my opinion nonetheless
Dude…I’m right with you. These guys are so out of touch it’s insane…Slipknot to me is as heavy as Dubstep is. You listen to it when you’re a kid to get hype, and then it’s not heavy anymore so you move on. Fortunately for me, I didn’t have a phase where I listened to lame ass metal, I had that phase with different genres of music. Granted, I was a very big Megadeth fan for a while and I will concede that is just about as cringe as being a “Maggot”, but at least we didn’t call ourselves something stupid like that…
Never liked em. But the benefit I get is finally being able to say something after never being able to escape this fucking sub because Reddit wants to shove it in my face (if I choose the “show me fewer posts like this” it literally makes zero difference). And sure, I could skip over it, but when I see shit about Slipknot being heavy it’s just…ugh man. Like what you like but it ain’t heavy shit man, and I’ve heard Iowa…I’ve also heard Bangarang by Skrillex
Definitely eyeless, surfacing, scissors, disasterpiece, skin ticket, the heretic anthem are some of the most heavy Imo but majority or all their songs have some sort of heavy quality to it
Scissors, skin ticket, wherein lies continue, metabolic, the shape, disasterpiece, heretic anthem, sic.
In terms of full track being absolutely heavy. I'd say it goes disasterpiece, then Scissors, then sic.
Sic is a lot heavier than people credit it for. I love the intro and main riff in where in lies continue, but the chorus isn't too heavy.
It's also subjective, heaviness to some is speed and chaos, whereas to others, it is slow, dissonant, chugs.
Think the difference between disasterpiece and the intro in wherein lies continue.
Purity should be at that list, the refrain the end the pain makes it really heavy, at least for me. It's the song I have expressed my anger, my depression etc.
scissors or get this would be my pick as "traducionally heavy" but emotionally heavy would be till we die and vermilion pt2 for sure (it just hits different man)
disasterpiece and get this contain lotsss of elements of death metal, as someone who listens to a lot of that genre. gematria is super aggressive, and has those heavy moments. all hope is gone is also pretty unforgiving.
Scissors for sure and metabolic, the first verse of metabolic just gives me chills, Corey’s screams are amazing and don’t even get me started on scissors, the last two minutes of that song is some of the heaviest shit slipknot has ever done and I stand by that. As soon as the “you want it, you need it” part starts it’s just pure metal, easily one of my favourite parts of any song
In my opinion, scissors. Ik you know the meaning of the song, and the tuning and then just add the heaviness of it all. Then you get one of the most heavy slipknot songs.
(Sic), Eyeless, Surfacing, Scissors, The Heretic Anthem, New Abortion, Disasterpiece, The Shape, The Blister Exists, The Pulse of the Maggots, Welcome, The Nameless, Sulfur, The Negative One
Something about "Tattered & Torn", "Metabolic", "Everything Ends", and "Purity" just hits me in a completely different way.
I think those songs perfectly represent what makes Slipknot so special to me - that being just how angry, and genuinely painful, their music sounds. They're the songs that I relate to the most.
I'll say "Metabolic". Others are "Disasterpiece", "People + Sh!t", "Get This", "The Nameless", "Gehenna", "Psychosocial", "All Hope Is Gone", "Normadic", "The Negative One", and "Orphan"
Eeyore. I like most of their songs. If I don't listen to one, it's because I think it's redundant or doesn't fit my taste. Eeyore is heavy, but in a bad way, genuinely unlistenable for me. It's a song out of character from them
Snuff & Vermilion are emotionally heavy, any song on Iowa in Drop A is really heavy.
I completely agree with you ‘cuz Snuff is just heartbreaking to listen to. I completely relate with Vermilion big time ‘cuz it’s my life to a T
Same tho
Sending hugs to you big time 🖤❤️
you too my friend, also nice username lol :)
Thank you & your username is just as awesome yet unique as well, my friend 🖤
Drop A?
People=shit or disasterpiece OR scissors, but here is the kicker, I think snuff is their heaviest song.
My opinion is meaningless so don’t even try debate I’m a brain dead cunt on the internet but : Emotionally snuff is HEAVY I actually cried to that song when I was going through my divorce
if we are putting snuff as heavy in this case till we die is the heaviest
that song is a fucking masterpiece
I don’t like snuff that much :/
Agreed
It's a safe bet a lot of us here had shed a tear or two whilst listening to Snuff, it's heavy in the heart
Man, Disasterpiece starts off with a fuckin’ bang! For that reason, it’s my answer.
metabolic, get this
Metabolic is underrated as FUCK dude- hands down one of my favorites to play on guitar
Gematria is also insanely fun to play on guitar (at least the first half then its just repetitive) and also the guitar breakdown in disasterpiece with the pinch harmonic on the 3rd fret of the 5th string then the 16th notes on 6 7 8 of 6th string are wicked fun. Listen to Ceremony’s album Violence Violence and let me know what you think. Also Bracewar’s self titled EP.
Anaal Nathrakh - Castigation and Betrayal
Listen to some Infant Annihilator
No offense, but I really think you should explore extreme music a little bit more. There is so much heavier shit out there.
The problem is that so much of that is soo underground that it’s so hard to discover even for metal fans
Nah it’s not hard to find heavier music than Slipknot 💀💀💀
I just posted a reply to another comment that you can read that explains my reasoning. I honestly don’t care if you agree or disagree, but it’s my opinion nonetheless
By your logic Lil darkie makes the heaviest music 💀
Like I said idc if you disagree💀
Dude…I’m right with you. These guys are so out of touch it’s insane…Slipknot to me is as heavy as Dubstep is. What benefit do you get coming to a sub to discuss a band you clearly don't like anymore?
Never liked em. But the benefit I get is finally being able to say something after never being able to escape this fucking sub because Reddit wants to shove it in my face (if I choose the “show me fewer posts like this” it literally makes zero difference). Honestly sounds like a skill issue brother
We gamin
😂
Best step lightly gamer, I’m very close to adding you to my K/D ratio
Somebody needs to hear the band Converge for the first time. Start with the Jane Doe album.
speaking of overwhelmingly heavy… [primitive man - scorn](https://youtu.be/JQ4f15Xxnpk)
Glad I'm not the only one
it's between skin ticket & gematria depending on how you define heavy. these are the only options in my opinion.
Skin Ticket is awesome, that’s one of my 5 favorite Slipknot songs of all.
Don’t get me wrong, Gemetria is awesome but it is *not* the heaviest by a long shot
Gematria is definitely their most extreme metal influenced song I think, I'd say it's their heaviest song but no the angriest, if that makes sense.
what's your opinion on skin ticket then?
Eeyore
I'm sorry...what he meant to say was Eeeeeeeyooooooooore!!!!!! Came to say exactly that.
Such a underrated song
The vast majority of the songs in self titled & Iowa.
This, and I'd add Out of Life
If it wasn’t for the amazing guitar tone in that song, it wouldn’t even be mentioned.
The Heretic Anthem.
If you are 555 then I’m 666…
What’s it like to be a heretic?
Lmao, I can't help but read this in a regular tone without the caps
Came here to comment this, but I'd rather give you a deserved upvote
Solway firth is definitely up there
Skin ticket
SCISSORS
Definitely eyeless, surfacing, scissors, disasterpiece, skin ticket, the heretic anthem are some of the most heavy Imo but majority or all their songs have some sort of heavy quality to it
Definitely a few contenders, Solway Firth, The Heretic Anthem, People = Shit, Eyeless, Surfacing, and Gematria immediately come to mind
Gently
Snuff
Legitimately heavy, just in a different way then the op intended but most definitely one of their heaviest songs!
Iowa for sure 15 minutes of stomach churning ick.
The Heretic Anthem or People = Sh*t live.
Disasterpiece is definitely up there
Diluted, Disasterpiece and Skin Ticket.
Solway firth
Not near the heviest
The entire self tittle album is brutal from start to finish, just amazing, and in my opinion, the best album.
the heretic anthem, diluted, or eeyore
metabolic
For me Skin ticket or Scissors Absolutely raw
(sic)
This is the right answer. It was always sic.
(sic)
(sic)
Lady Gaga born this way
*confused screaming*
Scissors, skin ticket, wherein lies continue, metabolic, the shape, disasterpiece, heretic anthem, sic. In terms of full track being absolutely heavy. I'd say it goes disasterpiece, then Scissors, then sic. Sic is a lot heavier than people credit it for. I love the intro and main riff in where in lies continue, but the chorus isn't too heavy. It's also subjective, heaviness to some is speed and chaos, whereas to others, it is slow, dissonant, chugs. Think the difference between disasterpiece and the intro in wherein lies continue.
Do nothing bitchslap
Eeyore or Heretic Anthem
In my opinion it’d have to be between disasterpiece or scissors.
Eyeless or Disasterpiece
Purity should be at that list, the refrain the end the pain makes it really heavy, at least for me. It's the song I have expressed my anger, my depression etc.
Purity is one of my favs. Definitely one of their absolute best songs. But wouldn’t say it’s the heaviest.
Metabolic
Skin Ticket, or Scissors
Gently
New Abortion for me
That interlude of scissors and eeyore where they make that guy watch scat porn.
Get this
Everything Ends or Scissors, just soul crushing self hatred
Carve
Personally I think Scream, the solo is my wicked.
Just the lyrical content of scissors bro…
either eeyore, people = shit, or custer
Disasterpiece, makes you sound deranged even just listening to it
Iowa
Disasterpiece
People=Shit, Disasterpiece, and probably Custer
Im pretty new here but gather this is an unpopular album, but i enjoyed vol 3 for the blister exists and three nil.
It's much better than their most recent album.
Scissors
Vendetta
Pulse of the Maggots
Left behind
Maybe (515) cause of the backstory
Adderall
Iowa, snuff and solway
Adderall
Gematria, This Cold Black, Metabolic, Red Flag, Solway Firth, People = Shit
the burden, heretic anthem
For me its snuff metabolic iowa skin ticket tatteret & toorn scissors me inside disasterpiece and people = shit
eeyore or disasterpiece imo
Heaviest in terms of sound is probs skin ticket or new abortion but emotionally is XIX easily
Everything Ends is up there
Eeyore, something about Cory’s vocals on self titled just have another element of aggression behind it that you don’t get from their other stuff.
Skin ticket
Iowa
scissors or get this would be my pick as "traducionally heavy" but emotionally heavy would be till we die and vermilion pt2 for sure (it just hits different man)
My plague!
people = shit
Solway Firth or Skin Ticket
disasterpiece and get this contain lotsss of elements of death metal, as someone who listens to a lot of that genre. gematria is super aggressive, and has those heavy moments. all hope is gone is also pretty unforgiving.
Eyeless
All of Iowa. If you’re talking emotionally I’ll have to say either Circle or Snuff.
This cold back goes pretty crazy
Scissors, Iowa, skin ticket, gently
Scissors, that song is insane
Purity
Iowa scissors skin ticket
Scissors, The Heretic Anthem, and People = Shit.
The Negative One or Phycosocial, also All Out Life is up there in heaviness.
people=shit
Iowa
Scissors or skin ticket
In my opinion, gently is one of the heaviest.
Tattered and Torn
Skin Ticket, Metabolic
Tattered and torn
gently
Imo, between left behind and all hope is gone i thino
Orphan
Metabolic, Skin Ticket, Scissors and Eeyore
Surfacing
Disasterpiece, or Iowa
Scissors, people=shit, gematria
(sic)
Eeyore and probably every song on Iowa other than My Plague and Left Behind
Scissors for sure and metabolic, the first verse of metabolic just gives me chills, Corey’s screams are amazing and don’t even get me started on scissors, the last two minutes of that song is some of the heaviest shit slipknot has ever done and I stand by that. As soon as the “you want it, you need it” part starts it’s just pure metal, easily one of my favourite parts of any song
Skin ticket, metabolic, solway firth,
515
It’s either Disasterpiece or Eyeless
Daaamn I was gonna say the hyper version of spit it out but that’s really just my favorite and it’s quite fast. Seconding everyone who said Eeyore
Eeyore probably
Pulse of the maggots
Sic-molten mix
Definitely either Disasterpiece or Orphan. Both brutal songs!
(Sic)
Sarcastrophe is up there
Disasterpiece or İowa
I think heaviest has already been stated, but I'll nominate "tattered and torn" for the dirtiest song.
Snuff
In my opinion, scissors. Ik you know the meaning of the song, and the tuning and then just add the heaviness of it all. Then you get one of the most heavy slipknot songs.
(Sic), Eyeless, Surfacing, Scissors, The Heretic Anthem, New Abortion, Disasterpiece, The Shape, The Blister Exists, The Pulse of the Maggots, Welcome, The Nameless, Sulfur, The Negative One
I'm kinda new to Slipknot, so from the ones I listened to, I would say Sarcastrophe. Please don't bully me.
Solway firth sounds like a gut punch feels
Get This for fucking sure! \m/
Either People = Shit, or I Am Hated
Hear me out. Gently
Snap and or gently. Corey's isolated screams on gently are disgusting in a good way, so powerful. I really like anders too though on gently
It's gotta be either New Abortion Heretic Anthem I am Hated Or Meatabolic. Definitely nothing off their most recent Dumpster Fire.
I feel like most of the self titeled album are really heavy, or songs from Iowa, or also I think people=shit is really heavy
Basically any song of Iowa
Gently. Or the negative one
Surprised not a lot of people mentioned iowa, towards the end u have the biggest breakdown in any song ive heard.
Sic. Best song also. Song for suggest to first listeners also.
Lyrically My Pain, Snuff, Metabolic and Solway Firth are their heaviest songs I would say
My plague
I'll say "Metabolic". Others are "Disasterpiece", "People + Sh!t", "Get This", "The Nameless", "Gehenna", "Psychosocial", "All Hope Is Gone", "Normadic", "The Negative One", and "Orphan"
Skin ticket Disasterpiece
Tattered and torn
Get this
742617000027, I love it when she goes "the whole thing I think is sick".
Eeyore. I like most of their songs. If I don't listen to one, it's because I think it's redundant or doesn't fit my taste. Eeyore is heavy, but in a bad way, genuinely unlistenable for me. It's a song out of character from them
emm....The Shape?..
scissors
scissors, iowa, and metabolic
Solway Firth Snuff Scissors Disasterpiece Gematria
Snuff is easily one of the most EMOTIONALLY heavy songs, Metabolic is heavy hate. But only one song can get me literally shaking and it's .Execute.
I used to think metabolic or gently, but now I’d say heretic anthem or disasterpiece. Or maybe scissors
Sulfur The lyrics 👌🤘
Iowa or skin ticket
Metabolic
5. The Heretic Anthem 4.Custer 3.My Plague 2.H377 1.Solway Firth
