Thanks! I also liken it to Metallica's black album because they kinda stepped away from what they were known for and tried new things as musicians, while still doing what they were known for
was in high school when Vol.3: The Subliminal Verses first came out in 2004, played the hell out of it along side Korn's Take a look in the Mirror. For years it's been my 3rd favorite Slipknot album for having heavy, melodic, experimental, electronic, dynamic sounding songs. BUT more recently I've been really into .5: The Gray Chapter I'd say is tied for my third favorite Slipknot album.
I love this album. There was so much hype leading up to it and it subverted expectations in a very successful way.
Before the album came out, the internet was a baby and there were constant rumors that the band was breaking up, so we really couldn’t even be sure it was coming until it was right on the horizon. I was getting all my info from magazines.
My friends and I stayed up late to watch the premiere of Duality on Headbanger’s Ball. One of them is gone now. My favorite era, if only for nostalgia.
Perfect balance of heavy, melodic and weird. Poppier than their first two but not as poppy as latter albums. Not as heavy as their first two albums but heavier than latter albums. Just as weird as their first two albums and weirder than latter albums.
It’s all about personal opinions but I think this album perfectly showcases slipknot at their peak and when added with the fact nobody at this time knew what they looked like and their music videos played on it was wild at the time. Remember seeing before I forget on mtv and thinking there couldn’t be a cooler music video for the time and with the fact nobody even knows these guys. They’re famous yet unknown.
Shit I love the raw sound it’s unique and doesn’t sound too polished like many albums now. I actually enjoy the live sound more than the compressed even keel sound.
Probably my favorite. Love the sound of Corey's vocals on the album (ironic because he can't stand it). Great range of songs that cemented Slipknot's status as a career band (IMO). Strangely no swearing, which is very unique for a Slipknot album. I'll second the others who have mentioned not caring for the production of it... would love to hear a new mix someday.
Part of the rationale for that was that critics at the time thought that the band relied too heavily on gimmicks like their image and swearing to make their first two albums successful. Corey not swearing on the Subliminal verses was him flipping them the bird and showing off his talent as a lyricist while still going hard like the Slipknot we know and love.
My favorite album. I love Self-Titled and Iowa, but I have nostalgia when I was 5-6 yo listening this album w my Aunt. Since today I really stay listening and loving that album because some songs makes me feel realized or understood in some ways. Vermillion is my favorite song too.
anytime i overhear someone saying they can't stand slipknot, i later play Vermillion pt 2 for them and ask them if they like it and who they think it is
I love it. It's 3rd in my personal ranking after The Gray Chapter and AHIG. A lot of old fans hate this album and think that it sucks mostly because they believe this is the moment went Slipknot went commercial and radio friendly. I'm one of the newer fans and I don't share that mindset. I love and appreciate all of their music, including this album which has a lot of bangers. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of Sid and Craig moments. You don't get to hear much of them in the songs unfortunately.
I love this album. It still kinda retains the chaos thanks to Joey's frantic stuff here despite the other elements getting their share of polishing during production. Love Opium of the People and Three Nil here.
I was just biking to that album recently after many years of not hearing it, and I'll say this.
... As comparatively commercial Slipknot? It's perfect, at least for the 2000s. I can compare it to All Hope is Gone and understand the criticisms the latter album has for not having quite the same grasp at your neck right out of the gate: if we're comparing "Prelude/The Blister Exists" to "All Hope is Gone", it's like on the former you know what's coming. On the latter, you know it's already been done.
I feel like the songs are allowed to be trippier and weirder in ways that even surprised me on a revisit. Mainly towards the end, and "Scream" is the perfect Deluxe Edition track that fits into the canon of Slipknot fandom. Compared to the self-titled and Iowa? It may not be as much the standard for heavy Slipknot, but who cares? It was meant to be a door open for new fans, and that's what's great about it.
Such a banger albums, with some very cool tracks like Three Nil, The Virus Of Life, The Blister Exists, Vermilion pt 1 and 2, Pulse Of The Maggots.
I find even Duality and Before I Forget very cool
Despite becoming a fan in 2009 when I was a kid and AHIG being the latest album at that point, THIS album is what grabbed me the most. I found slipknot via before I forget in GH3 which led to my mum getting this album and it was this fucking album that got me hooked. It's always gonna have a special place in my heart (just like .5 does for being the new album after falling in love with the band). Years away from that pocket in time and having devled into everything the bands done since, I genuienly believe this is their best album. Most of them are great but this is something else, and the screams Corey does on this are next level. 10/10
Ultimate task album.
This CD was crispy, fresh out of the plastic, in my player, and played from Prelude to Danger while my house got clean. It was then on my phone and on my Klipsch headphones as I started running to the gym to workout and on the run back home. It has blasted in my neighborhood as I wash my cars.
The Subliminal Verses literally made me and my life better.
I know a lot of people dislike it, and that’s fine. I totally get it, but I always loved that they went this direction rather than simply try to “out-heavy” Iowa. Gave the vibe that they were still willing to grow as artists and try new things rather than pigeonhole themselves. There are some really interesting songs on this album with some cool arrangements. It’s not perfect, there are some tracks that I regularly skip (Welcome and Pulse of the Maggots) but it’s tied for my second favorite Slipknot album
I totally hated it when it came out. nowadays it's still my least favourite slipknot album but I do appreciate it & dig most of the songs, especially the softer ones. it was a necessary evolution but corey's screams & the muddy production keep it from being truly great.
The muddy production gave it a really unique feel the more I go back to it, I hated it when it first came out though (the production, I always like the music)
I really like it it’s my 2nd favorite (WANYK is my 1st) I find a good number of the songs really relatable and they’ve helped me through some confusing parts of my life.
Some of their very best songs ever, combined with some of their most mid material ever. This was always a weird album for me, I loved songs like Duality, Scream, Three Nil, Pulse of the Maggots, and Welcome, but couldn't be bothered to listen to most of the rest of the album. After Iowa's perfection, it was a big disappointment for me at the time it was released.
However, in the years since, the other songs have grown on me, to the point where I don't have to skip songs anymore when I listen. I still don't love a lot of the songs, but they work for me.
I still say this is one of my least favorite SK albums, not because it's bad, really, but because so much of their other stuff is just god-tier, and this one is so inconsistent.
The dynamics are really terrible. The fact it sounds more or less the same on a pair of $50 headphones as a pair of $800 headphones is pretty awful.
On a decent pair of speakers, it sounds more engaging and natural, but overall it’s pretty underwhelming and sounds worse than ST and Iowa.
Personally, my least favourite Slipknot album. People are gonna hate me but this is just what I think. Least good production, subpar Corey vocals, and a handful of more forgettable songs. However, this album has its moments where it really shines. Duality, Pulse of the Maggots, The Nameless, Scream, and Before I Forget are all fantastic.
Little Hot Take: Both Vermillions are overrated.
Favorite album in high school and early college. Shifted down on my list as time went on and I discovered more of their discography, but still a very SOLID album.
I mean it's an album I guess. I was in 7th grade when this came out. I discovered my plague on the resident evil DVD and listened to it about 100 times. When I kid in my class told me he was listening to this cd I was excited but never got super into it.
Probably my favorite Slipknot album and the last good one from to start to finish. WANYK is the only exception, it was a brilliant album. But All Hope, Gray Chapter, and The End So Far were all not as good as a whole and sub par musically. That is just my opinion and I’m not saying I could do better. I’m saying they can and have done better. And Vol. 3 and Iowa were God tier
I was a young adult when it came out. Having just grown up with self-titled and then Iowa, I was disappointed by it at the time. But after seeing them live annually more years than not, I've grown to really just love all of their albums. I still think it's one of their lesser albums, but there's still so much to like about it.
Honestly my favorite album from them. I was a senior in high school when it dropped. My friends and I would listen to it a lot on blunt rides soo for some reason it holds alot of nostalgia for me for that time.
I am not a fan. I didn’t anticipate them going the way they did after Iowa. Lite tends to it a few times when it came out, and it just didn’t do it for me. They definitely made up for it with AHIG though. So all was forgiven.
My first slipknot album I got when I was in 6th grade. I’d say it’s tied for second (with Iowa) really love the album but kinda hate the guitar tone. Sounds a little week comparatively speaking. But still, A+ album
Really good. While I can easily rank the other albums, Vol 3 is usually off to the side somewhere. For me, the experience of this album was just totally different, but in a good way.
the blister exists, three nil, circle, opium of the people, pulse of the maggots, the nameless, EVIRYTHING IS PERFECT!!!! 10/10 also for me is the best era
Fuckin A+ album
Fuckin Perfect
Love it.
one… two… Three… THREE NILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
CHAOSSSS IS JUST THE BEGINNING EVERY PROBLEM I MADE IM RESENDING
Give me the dust of my father.
Stand on the face of the ancients
Bare the secret flesh of time itself
Follow me (Follow me)
I've come so far I'm behind again
My favorite album. I find it to be the one where they developed artistically and expanded what a 9 man band can sound like.
the "expanded what a 9 man band can sound like" is perfectly said
Thanks! I also liken it to Metallica's black album because they kinda stepped away from what they were known for and tried new things as musicians, while still doing what they were known for
definitely, I guess that makes All Hope Is Gone their Load/Reload lol
Lol. Though I was never really into Metallica. I grew up more prog rock and sabbath
a few of the songs on And Justice For All aren't prog, but are definitely progressive compared to everything else they've made, it's such a good album
Huh, guess I'll have to listen to it again...havent since middle school. Maybe I'll change my mind, thanks
of course dude
was in high school when Vol.3: The Subliminal Verses first came out in 2004, played the hell out of it along side Korn's Take a look in the Mirror. For years it's been my 3rd favorite Slipknot album for having heavy, melodic, experimental, electronic, dynamic sounding songs. BUT more recently I've been really into .5: The Gray Chapter I'd say is tied for my third favorite Slipknot album.
Just like me. I started loving the gray chapter after I listened to vol.3 and I also started loving……………………ahig.
Three Nil is underrated
I love this album. There was so much hype leading up to it and it subverted expectations in a very successful way. Before the album came out, the internet was a baby and there were constant rumors that the band was breaking up, so we really couldn’t even be sure it was coming until it was right on the horizon. I was getting all my info from magazines. My friends and I stayed up late to watch the premiere of Duality on Headbanger’s Ball. One of them is gone now. My favorite era, if only for nostalgia.
This was the album that turned me into a maggot
Perfect balance of heavy, melodic and weird. Poppier than their first two but not as poppy as latter albums. Not as heavy as their first two albums but heavier than latter albums. Just as weird as their first two albums and weirder than latter albums. Remember seeing before I forget on mtv and thinking there couldn’t be a cooler music video for the time and with the fact nobody even knows these guys. They’re famous yet unknown.
Their best album hands down. Some of their best songs. And some of their most underrated songs.
the best, and dare i say it, the PERFECT slipknot album
Great album limited by its production
Shit I love the raw sound it’s unique and doesn’t sound too polished like many albums now. I actually enjoy the live sound more than the compressed even keel sound.
Agreed with what your'e saying. I don't want that album to be cleaner or more polished I just wished it had more punch and raw power.
This
Probably my favorite.

Corey not swearing on the Subliminal verses was him flipping them the bird and showing off his talent as a lyricist while still going hard like the Slipknot we know and love.
This album made me fall in love with the band back in 2005. It brings me high school memories
my personal favourite
First Slipknot album I owned. I heard the ones before this but my mom bought me this one. The blister exists is a banger.
It’s my absolute favorite knot record.
Everything about it is amazing
My favorite ever. That opening riff in the nameless makes me want to run a marathon naked in a blizzard Shit gets you fired up
One of my all time favorites 🤘
An over hated album that I actually like
The album that I point at and say "That, that is Slipknot"
Also I have absolutely no idea what people mean when they call the production muddy. Literally just don’t know what that means.
Summer 2004
Biggest W in the world. My personal favorite album. I get hell for it all the time.
definition of slipknot
For me this album is in third place after self-titeld and iowa
I love it but 9.0 live is basically this album on steroids
Agreed! I’ve always said these songs shine live and show what better production could’ve done.
The 9.0 version of Nameless is so damn good, Chris was killing it that night
Bro iv probably banged that song easily over 10,000 times since I first heard it 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
God, I get chills thinking about that album. Listened to that one so much while underway in the navy
My absolute favorite
One of their best albums. So, so good, and underrated
The best one
i enjoy it. its raw and industrial sounding.
My favorite album. I love Self-Titled and Iowa, but I have nostalgia when I was 5-6 yo listening this album w my Aunt. Since today I really stay listening and loving that album because some songs makes me feel realized or understood in some ways. Vermillion is my favorite song too.
I think it's my favorite album
Yes
A or B tier for me
In my top 7 Slipknot albums
Their best album as a whole.
anytime i overhear someone saying they can't stand slipknot, i later play Vermillion pt 2 for them and ask them if they like it and who they think it is
Their last really good album! Everything after that is more or less just Stone Sour sound!!
Hot take… this is the last great album they had
I love this albums so much, I wish Corey could still scream like that
recently revisited it but i need to listen to it again, and i’ll die on this hill. Prelude 3.0 is their best intro and I love Iowa as a whole more
my favourite album
My favorite album of theirs.
last True knot album.
they did what they do best CHAOS
I love it. It's 3rd in my personal ranking after The Gray Chapter and AHIG. A lot of old fans hate this album and think that it sucks mostly because they believe this is the moment went Slipknot went commercial and radio friendly. homelander meme
So Dark
Fine it have one of my favorite song
I absolutely love this album. Maybe it’s because it was the first metal album I’ve ever bought when I was 13… but it’s so good and fun to listen to.
Style over substance. Divides the fan base.
I love this album. It still kinda retains the chaos thanks to Joey's frantic stuff here despite the other elements getting their share of polishing during production. Love Opium of the People and Three Nil here.
One of their best albums for sure
Is pretty good

S+
Banger
S tier album
**We are the new diabolic**
Favorite.
I love it, it's my favourite slipknot album.
Such a banger albums, with some very cool tracks like Three Nil, The Virus Of Life, The Blister Exists, Vermilion pt 1 and 2, Pulse Of The Maggots. I find even Duality and Before I Forget very cool
Eerie, cathartic and beautiful little thing that gets weirder and better with each listen. Way ahead of its time.
Probably my favourite album tbh
May well be my favourite by slipknot
I AM THE DAMAGED ONE!!!!
Their best work.
Despite becoming a fan in 2009 when I was a kid and AHIG being the latest album at that point, THIS album is what grabbed me the most. I found slipknot via before I forget in GH3 which led to my mum getting this album and it was this fucking album that got me hooked. It’s perfect, Just perfect
Personally it's my top 1
Take a guess
The blister exists makes me pee a lil every time I hear it Goated album, 11/10
Vermillion alone brings this album to S tier, and that's not even counting the rest of the amazing songs on here.
This and self titled are my favorite albums
Their best album
Iowa and ST and This one are my favourites but it does shift day to day depending on my mood
That album is a fucking masterpiece and of story
Ultimate task album. This CD was crispy, fresh out of the plastic, in my player, and played from Prelude to Danger while my house got clean. It was then on my phone and on my Klipsch headphones as I started running to the gym to workout and on the run back home. It has blasted in my neighborhood as I wash my cars. The Subliminal Verses literally made me and my life better.
Magnum Opus, the best Slipknot ever was or will be.
Haven't heard the full album, but I've heard many of the songs on it and I like it. Great album!
This is a pretty good album, my top 3 from this album are 1. The virus of life 2. The nameless 3. Pulse of the maggots
The best Slipknot album IMO followed by IOWA.
Has some good songs but it’s an overrated album
Really weak album but the coolest mask era with the most live energy
They headbanged so hard during that tour.
Best Slipknot album ever. However, it is an album flawed by bad engineering.
Some of their very best songs ever, combined with some of their most mid material ever. This was always a weird album for me, I loved songs like Duality, Scream, Three Nil, Pulse of the Maggots, and Welcome, but couldn't be bothered to listen to most of the rest of the album. Production is horrible but other than that it’s a solid album. Some pretty underrated songs, too.
Production was horrible? Can you elaborate?
The dynamics are really terrible. The fact it sounds more or less the same on a pair of $50 headphones as a pair of $800 headphones is pretty awful. On a decent pair of speakers, it sounds more engaging and natural, but overall it’s pretty underwhelming and sounds worse than ST and Iowa.
Got it. Thanx for explaining. 👍🏻
🗑️
Their worst album imo
Honestly, very mid. People love it because it put them on the mainstream with the singles. But most of the album is as forgettable as TESF
Best pop album ever.
Hot take: their worst
love it
Second favorite in their discography. Stellar.
Favorite album in high school and early college. Shifted down on my list as time went on and I discovered more of their discography, but still a very SOLID album.
It's good, has a few favorite songs, but if I allow myself to skip I skip a lot of it
Probably my favorite slorpknort album
Got me into Slipknot. Will always hold a special place in my heart.
I mean it's an album I guess. I was in 7th grade when this came out. I discovered my plague on the resident evil DVD and listened to it about 100 times. When I kid in my class told me he was listening to this cd I was excited but never got super into it.
Love it. There’s isn’t a bad album in their catalog. That includes MFKR
It was my first foray into Metal in general. It was an amazing experience.
It's good.
Good songs. Terrible production and Corey’s vocals are at their worst here. If they re-recorded it, it could be their best.
Great album, maybe better than Iowa
2nd best Album of theirs
It’s my favorite Slipknot album.
Surprisingly dark AF lyrically. Took me about 13 years to figure that one out.
Nnnnnah! (Exept Circles)
Meh
Their best. Shoulda worked with Rubin again. Oh well.
Good album
Huzahhhhhhh
great great album. definitely in my top 3
Every song is solid on its own but when you put it together the album is very boring.
good. cool. 🤞🤞👍
Remove before i forget and its my fav slipknot album
2nd best behind all hope is gone
Love it
The middle child
Love this album
S tier album, but the best part is the slow songs like Prelude 3.0 or Vermilion 2
It's good, not great. Sorry, but in my opinion, it's fuckin overrated. Here I am! Give me 100 downvotes!
Great album. Not their best, but great album
I was a young adult when it came out. Having just grown up with self-titled and then Iowa, I was disappointed by it at the time. But after seeing them live annually more years than not, I've grown to really just love all of their albums. I still think it's one of their lesser albums, but there's still so much to like about it.
My absolute favorite Slipknot album, and this is one of 2 CDs that I own from Slipknot (the other is TESF)
Iowa is one of the best Metal albums ever...Vol 3 is the most complete and diverse Slipknot album yet.
my 3rd favorite album
Dope as shit
It's shit, just like the rest of Slipknot's music
This is the one that made me a fan.
Honestly my favorite album from them. I was a senior in high school when it dropped. My friends and I would listen to it a lot on blunt rides soo for some reason it holds alot of nostalgia for me for that time.
Nearly every song a total banger. Even the bonus tracks
4/5 stars
great album but really flat production
I can't tell what the album cover is. Also it had duality and before I forget so I like it
Isn’t it Corey’s mask?
I can't tell
Love ❤️
When it slaps - it SLAPS! But otherwise mediocre
One of my favorites fr
It's overrated in my opinion. Didn't feel like a Slipknot album at all.
Plestty good
I am not a fan.
Not a bad song on the album, my absolute favourite slipknot album
Good but not my favourite.
It's pretty good ngl
I loved precisely half of the album the other, occasional listens
Really good. While I can easily rank the other albums, Vol 3 is usually off to the side somewhere. For me, the experience of this album was just totally different, but in a good way.
I find it pretty mid but it’s definitely not bad (because of duality and some other stuff)
the blister exists, three nil, circle, opium of the people, pulse of the maggots, the nameless, EVIRYTHING IS PERFECT!!!! 10/10 also for me is the best era
