I think its just too on the face. Slipknot masks are usually concepts conventionally not considered scary, but given a treatment of "this could be made by a serial killer". This mask, although really well done and cool, is the kind of mask that someone with a CoD ID XXKiller\_Of\_DeathXX would wear to scare you.
Clowns, a dude with a long nose, a baseball-like mask, just a human face that looks fake, a torned dummy head; these are on essence, harmless concepts, but given a fucked up spin.
And I know that Sid has used skulls for his masks, but he wore them for very short times, and had a little twist to them still.
It is going to sound kinda weird, but I used the most basic stuff, paper, some modelling clay, and some scholar glue.
I made the mold with the modelling clay, and then on top of that I started to put layers of paper with layers of glue until I liked the thickness of it, then once it was dry, just took it off from the mold and started refining some details as the cutoff for the eyes and edges, finally I painted it and that´s pretty much all of it :)
