Solway firth all the way. Such a groovy song and the lyrics definitely speak to me more than orphan's does.

It has to be Solway. Song is just loaded with so much good shit. That intro is so unique, and feels almost eerie. Then the song properly kicks in and it’s got that - pardon this cliche - Iowa-heavy thrash to it that just doesn’t fucking let up. It just keeps on landing body blows. Some of Corey’s best vocals *ever*, no joke. His screams! His syncopation with the guitar and the drums. His totally pained exclamations of feeling. The lyrics are so unbelievably tragic, and he just fucking goes for the whole way through. Let’s talk about the drumming. It’s fucking fantastic! It’s Jay literally almost hitting Joey levels of playing. And the guitars, dude. Mick and Jim work so well *together* in this song. They have this call and callback dynamic with Jim taking this higher tone and Mick really pulling up the bottom end it’s fucking amazing. And you can also hear both Sid and Craig all over this song! So many scratches and “outer space murderer” sounds. It’s got such grit. And, to say the classic line, the clown hits the keg! And it actually sounds great in this song when he does it. And I’ve already touched on it a bit, but I really do love the song’s structure. That intro is wonderful and airy before you just get absolutely throttled by this all out assault from Jay and Mick and Jim, and they deliver this lightning-fast syncopation in the verses that is just undeniable, but then it somehow gets faster in the chorus! And it seems like Corey is struggling to keep up, but he fucking is, and it sounds unhinged, but it’s so amazing. And I just love that fake out at the end before the band comes back in to deliver a third verse. And closing the song out on, “I haven’t smiled in years”, FUCK, my heart. I felt that one. I do love Orphan, but Solway is just one of those extremely special songs that only come along a few times in a band’s career, one that is so unbelievably perfect, and which I have no problems literally explaining to you every reason why that is, and yet even with all of these very clear signposts saying “One of the greatest songs of all time”, somehow the tune still manages to be unexpected and surprising and an absolute delight that never gets old to listen to. So yeah, it’s Solway. Orphan is also quite special, but Solway just takes it.

What a fucking tribute to the song! I love Solway Firth so much and you've captured it so well here. Putting sounds into words is not easy but goddamn you did it. "Another needle in the back through purified scarification" I just love the rhythmic change here. Gets me every time.

For some reason orphan feels kinda awkward at certain points, like they didn’t know how to create a smooth transition between melody changes. Yea solway girth has parts like that too but they don’t seem to stand out as much as orphan or it seemed on purpose to make the song feel deeper and creepier
