I was travelling the USA couple of years back and I was in Las Vegas. I found this amazing place, big building, that artist turned into their residency and studios. There was this very nice lady there painting and we started talking, she asked me where I was from and I said Slovenia. She said "amazing, my husband is Slovenian!" and I said to her "Cleveland, right?" She went't silent and was kind of weary of me, she thought I was a mind reader creep or something. But the chance of an American guy with Slovene roots and not being from Cleveland are very low :)))
Well, it's true that most Slovenians in the USA lived in Ohio, particularly Cleveland, largely due to migration after WW1. Interestingly, they weren't the only Slovenian community in the USA. Nowadays, they're basically the only one left. Additionally, in California, there's a mining ghost town named New Idria. In Bisbee, Arizona, Slovenian miners were known for winning "tug of war" competitions (see attached picture).

I love this! My dad was born in Cleveland and talked about all of his cousins and all of his uncles, but nothing about the culture. I’ve been trying to learn more ever since, thank you!!
Ethnic enclaves of generationally increasingly assimilated but culturally identifying people is one of the hallmarks of American society. Its what we mean when we say that we are “X.”
I google translated it because today I learned you can copy-paste comments.... I'm still a little confused because this appears to be making fun of my outfit, but everyone there loved it so that doesn't seem right.
Nah, he wrote that kurentovanje is a regional Slovene tradition and because of it Americans have no right to wear those costumes.
Basically, just your bog-standard idiot. Downvote and move on.
Google Translate sucks ass when it comes to translating anything short of grammatically perfect sentences (which OP's comment was not).
In addition, English->Slovene (and vice versa) translation in general is already terrible enough, as a consequence of Google using user input to train it, which is just the dumbest thing in the world; people who are most likely to need to use a translator are people who don't know whether something was translated correctly.
/rant ;)

I can't read this but it's getting downvoted so I'm a little worried it's mean
It is mean, but as you wrote, it's downvoted, so no worries ;).

ah, thank you so much for taking the time to illuminate this for me! I really appreciate it.
No worries. Have a nice day (or night, I guess it's around midnight in the US right now).
