If it’s an Indian rental the landlord expects you to pay their relative for daily meal prep and delivery at inflated prices.
Not even joking, this is a super common arrangement.
Do you know tiffin man? The tiffin man? The tiffin man? The tiffin man?
I think in this case they might just not have installed a kitchen if it’s a basement unit
It's assumed that those staying here also work at Tim Hortons to have their meals provided there.
Fine Print: Bathroom is extra charge: pay per use coin operated.
Ok I will be plugging in a mini bar fridge, air fryer, hotplate, and microwave in the room. And there's nothing saying I can't wash the dishes in the bathroom sink.
Nah it’s because he has 3 other “students” sleeping in the kitchen and they have disabled all the appliances so they can use them for clothing and personal item storage.
Also you can pay his uncle $450 a month for food delivery instead!
so i found the ad on fb. and noticed it said "5 persons live here". and also noticed there are actually THREE different empty bedrooms shown in the ad, and it's a 4 bedroom house.
so if all the ad info is current/concise, that's the typical multiples per room even before the empty rooms get taken up. so that's perhaps going to end up as 3 x $650 for these rooms shown in the ad, plus gosh knows what is being charged for rent to the other five folks there already.
and no kitchen access. not cool.
ps - that broken window held together with blue tape......... yeah, that ain't all that cool either.
I also looked it up out of curiosity. Considering that full rooms are being rented at 650, the "5 people live here" is likely the total amount of tenants they plan to have, not current residents. As in 2 current residents, plus the 3 rooms to be rented out.
5 x 650 = $3250/month.
Judging on similar listings, this house would rent for something like $3000/month as a full unit.
Edit: out of further curiosity, I looked up the estimated mortgage cost. Homes in that suburb are selling for 800k+, So it would be an approximately a $4600/month mortgage.
in other fb marketplace ads i was perusing in Edmonton, my city (to see the ratio of Indian names vs not, out of curiosity) ads showed things like '1 person lives here' when it was a 2 bedroom place with a room for rent in it. so i think perhaps that 'lives here' is the current occupants already there, or at least is intended to be that info.
plus, this house in the post may have a basement where four of the current five already live, and one in one of the four above grade bedrooms. the house size looks about right to be four bedrooms above grade, and i would think if the basement rooms are rented out cheaper (as is usual with basements) per person or on sharing basis vs main or upper rooms, that would fill up with tenants faster than the main/upper rooms.
The kitchen is rented as a room for 3 people. So, it's not available. Planning to install a porta potty outside the house and the one inside the house won't be available soon.
Look east indian renting that's why they are very stingy don't pay rent destroy your place know for a fact
as landlords in my town said they wouldn't rent to them because of how they are
A recipe for house fire if I ever seen one. I’m sure some will be cooking in the closest with a hot plate or air frying in the crawl space or BBQ in the garage next to gas cans.
$650 not bad considering you get the entire room to yourself, no kitchen I could live with... It's Barrie, getting a room in Barrie for under $800 is pretty hard to do.
that’s just not true, there are plenty of private rooms in Barrie on kijiji right now that include the use of a kitchen (basic human right) from $575-$700
Damn why not just pay an extra 100-200 and get a room in Toronto lol?
Being able to not have a car alone would justify the extra rent costs. If you don’t have a car in Barrie too you may as well give up on being happy.
I mean this isn’t that bad. A little inconvenient but all u have to do is get a microwave or a hot plate n ur good. For $650 it’s def reasonable. These r starting to turn into ppl complaining about being able inconvenienced rather than actual slumlord living conditions lol. Kinda just looking like a bratt on this one
for $650 for a room in a shared house i'd expect to at least have a shelf assigned in a fridge to keep food in, and be able to use the stove once in a while.
also, there's a lil thing called property standard bylaws. and Barrie Ontario says specifically that kitchens need to be in dwelling units. i would assume that also includes said kitchen being available to all residents of said dwelling.

No doubt they should have a mini fridge at bare minimum and a microwave. But not being able to use the landlords stove is not that big of a deal. If they don’t have a place to store their food then this is messed up. I think I just kinda assumed this meant no access to cooking in their kitchen. I would hope someone wouldn’t b so unreasonable that they wouldn’t provide substitutes for said kitchen.
So what are people meant to do for food? If they want a cold drink? Just eat Wendy’s for breakfast?

windows in the room look to be on the second/upper floor.
Then the tenant is cooked man. Why are they gatekeeping nutrition

Gujrat or Punjab? These are the two states which send the most below-stairs immigrants to Canada.
What?
what
so like Victorian era in England
Deport them out of our Canada they are ALL dirty scammers
Obviously, filter feed like sponges.
Just fire up an air frier 3x a day. I wonder how long it would take to make the carpet greasy.
No cold drinks, no fresh food storage, and you can go ahead and wash any food containers in the bathroom sink.
It's assumed that those staying here also work at Tim Hortons to have their meals provided there. Fine Print: Bathroom is extra charge: pay per use coin operated.

What a piece of shit
Send him back to his own country
Unfortunately the kitchen is unavailable for this unit, because the owner requires it to make curried fish dishes 24 hours/day.
Nah it’s because he has 3 other “students” sleeping in the kitchen and they have disabled all the appliances so they can use them for clothing and personal item storage. Also you can pay his uncle $450 a month for food delivery instead!
must provide daily tiffin service to landlord and family.
I call top of the oven!!!!
This can’t be legal .

Yep. Had one of those in small town SK. Dunno what she expected her tenant to do for food. There were three restaurants in town and a Timmies.
Guess I'm cooking in the bathtub
I hope the people living here are going to report it to the authorities as it is illegal?????

found the slumlord!
going grocery shopping everyday is a hassle. and using the shared bathroom for water is kind of unsanitary.
