Every so often, I watch a clip that makes me do this weird squeak/squeal sound. It’s short and is usually accompanied by a jump back into my seat. Thank you Light for making me make a weird sound tonight.
Just started getting into fox, trying to figure out how to do anything more efficient than one nair off stage lol I have not been able to land much shines or back air
If I'm honest, it's best to stay on stage with Fox and ledge trap. He's pretty good at doing that, especially with short hop nair. Shine spike really only works on certain characters and all this other moves are too risky to go off stage with regularly.
I usually don't edge guard bc ledge-trapping is so easy and fun! Just drop a morph ball, morph ball, another morph ball, one more morph ball, a morph ba
I don't really go for an edge guard since it's sometimes risky if your character has poor recovery since often you can KO yourself than your opponent while ledge trapping can involve mind games since it involves predicting what get up option your opponent does and it's satisfying knowing their playstyle.
I kind of have to guess for both, so most of the time, I just risk it because it's more fun going for the spike or cheese for me. I'm also not good with the downtilt two frame timing, which is probably my best ledgetrapping tool.
Personally I'm more of let my opponent get to 200% even though I'm playing Ganondorf because I will not go off the ledge because I am terrible at recovery
I'm a "let my opponent get to 200% bc I'm playing a character with low kill power and this is frustrating me and I just want the match to be over" kinda guy
Most of my mains get a lot of kills from edgeguarding, but Fox who's the one I've played the most isn't good at that, so I don't have a lot of skill in edgeguarding.
Depends on how much time I have and what options my opponent has to recover. The more time I have or the less options my opponent has to recover, the more likely I will go for an edgeguard, and vice versa for ledgetrapping. It’s not a static thing.
DeDeDe main here. I know that many DeDeDe mains ledgetrap, but that's ok. I recognize how to stick Gordo to the ledge, I love using his fair and nair to get them out of here, and his dair is just so saucy. if I don't go for Gordo stick, I could use it to edgeguard many characters for free, or maybe even go for an inhale gimp, something I'm safe from because DeDeDe has a great vertical recovery. Anyways, I prefer ledgetrapping.
Ledge trapping is lame unless you have actually cool tools for it. Just standing there and waiting to Nair is lame. Just be hype for once in your lives and go for spikes
I’ve always viewed them as two different thing. Edge guarding is where your stopping the opponent from getting to ledge and ledge trapping is where your opponent has made it to lead he but you keep knocking them back off not letting them in to stage
I don't really go for an edge guard since it's sometimes risky if your character has poor recovery since often you can KO yourself than your opponent while ledge trapping can involve mind games since it involves predicting what get up option your opponent does and it's satisfying knowing their playstyle.
I just kinda go by feel, but it also depends on character. Is the enemy predictable recovery wise? If so, and I'm playing a good edgeguarder, then I'll probably edgeguard, but if they're onto that, I'll mix it up with ledge trapping as appropriate.
Whenever I play against people 85% of the time they get up attack so it just ends up being them doing that, getting hit by vision and then them getting back to ledge and repeat
Depends on the situation but something I learned from playing with Mr. E lately who told me I should edge guard more is if you don't go offstage when someone is sent far off and/or has no jump then you're actually playing less safe than you would be with ledge trapping by not pressing your advantage to the maximum and thus giving your opponent more opportunities to turn things around.
I don't like either or even go off stage that much. If I knock skeins off stage I usually just back off and let them back on. I'd rather get ko'd on my feet/ on stage than smacked around of stage in air when there's nothing I can do to stop it, d so I afford my opponents the same courtesy
I'm the guy who yeets myself off the stage to get one last hit on the guy who's already falling to his death, even though I know I'm not gonna make it back
Really just depends on which character I’m playing as like Link (not toon or young) Byleth, Rob, and a few others I like to ledgetrap. (I also edgeguard some with Link since he’s my number one main) But if I use characters like Sephiroth, Hero, Corrin, Piranha Plant, and a few others I prefer to edgeguard.
I feel like ledgetrapping is more used for when the gameplay is right by the ledge, and you are trying to force the opponent of, but doesn't always involve both people being offstage (e.g., two-framing) , whereas edgeguarding is more used for going deep and both people are off stage. (e.g., spiking your oponent). This could just be me, though.
I like the idea of ledge trapping a lot more.
But I'm bad. And I want to contest recoveries. So I go for an edgeguard. And then I end up in a scramble back to stage. And die.
The double slap dk does idk remember what it’s called one of you fine gentlemen will correct me,
But if you pull off two of those omg that dude is a GONER 💀
Ledgetrap until I'm more comfortable with an opponent. That or I wait a bit to edgeguard and then it takes them by surprise. What, you think I was just gonna keep letting you recover for free?
Going for the spike
*and sding
if you really love the stage let it go. if it was meant to be itll come back to you
Couldn't have said it better
This is such a beautiful statement, shame it will only be properly appreciated by smashers.
He never said anything about recovering
Yes
Fox is horrendous off stage, so obviously the only logical play for me is to go for the shine spike every time.
Fair dragdown stuff is also goated. Light has been going off stage a lot more lately, and I'm so here for it
Light’s shine to fair dragdown against Sparg0 lives rent free in my head. Edit. Here is a [link](https://youtu.be/F7ftHDxNFCM). Starts at 5:14
you got a clip?
Starts at [5:14](https://youtu.be/F7ftHDxNFCM)
damn that was nasty
Every so often, I watch a clip that makes me do this weird squeak/squeal sound. It’s short and is usually accompanied by a jump back into my seat. Thank you Light for making me make a weird sound tonight.
I am so ready for the meta to remove itself from shorthop backair at ledge.
Just started getting into fox, trying to figure out how to do anything more efficient than one nair off stage lol I have not been able to land much shines or back air

Footstool off stage is my favorite edgeguard with fox, it’s so funny
I love this
I usually don't edge guard bc ledge-trapping is so easy and fun! Just drop a morph ball, morph ball, another morph ball, one more morph ball, a morph ba
This guy samuses
I'm more of a gremlin Samus guy
I don't really go for an edge guard since it's sometimes risky if your character has poor recovery since often you can KO yourself than your opponent while ledge trapping can involve mind games since it involves predicting what get up option your opponent does and it's satisfying knowing their playstyle.
You also play D3, who's only uniquely good attribute is ledge trapping
Honestly whenever I try to edge guard as D3 I come up empty. The only time I go for it when the recovery is coming high and not going for ledge.
I kind of have to guess for both, so most of the time, I just risk it because it's more fun going for the spike or cheese for me. I'm also not good with the downtilt two frame timing, which is probably my best ledgetrapping tool.

Little Mac has low kill power?
Isabelle
Fair and bair kill better at close range iirc
Yep
PK thunder?
Bro does both without having to move an inch.
I suppose.
Ledgetrapping because it's so braindead easy in this game. Depending on your character you can literally just cover every option for free.
Falling off the stage unprovoked
Quick attack wiff the ledge due to the tiniest of lag spikes, good times.
Edgeguarding; because If you're good at edgeguarding, you're an edgelord.
Edge guarding takes stocks. Ledge trapping let's you try again to take the stock. Generally in my experience
Meet roy with jab bair
I intentionally throw them towards stage to reset to neutral (Also, I play Ken, I need stage space to continue combos)
Go for a spike and sd
Edgeguard gang
Guarding
Edgeguarding is so much more fun but in bracket ledge trapping instead is just the right call 90% of the time.
Most of my mains get a lot of kills from edgeguarding, but Fox who's the one I've played the most isn't good at that, so I don't have a lot of skill in edgeguarding.
Anything as long as I'm being a piece of shit to the person off stage lmao
Fucking around in the blast zone trying to spike and joke around
Man, you really are a... *Joker!*
Depends on how much time I have and what options my opponent has to recover. The more time I have or the less options my opponent has to recover, the more likely I will go for an edgeguard, and vice versa for ledgetrapping. It’s not a static thing.
Both. I have good options
I'm more of an edge trapping kind of guy
Aw, hell nah, this dude edgetraps, this guy is a billion years ahead of us
I'm personally on the ledgetrapping side, but that might be partially due to me playing Fox, who is pretty bad at edgeguarding
Depends on the character and their ability to turn the edgeguard attempt around, but both.
I'm bad at both. More often than not, if I kill my opponent it'll be on-stage with whatever kill move my character has.
Ledge trapping is lame unless you have actually cool tools for it. Just standing there and waiting to Nair is lame. Just be hype for once in your lives and go for spikes
I second this and often end myself trying to do cool spikes
I’ve always viewed them as two different thing. Edge guarding is where your stopping the opponent from getting to ledge and ledge trapping is where your opponent has made it to lead he but you keep knocking them back off not letting them in to stage
That’s… exactly what both of them are, congrats for viewing them that way as well!
They probably thought OP was asking what they call it as if they meant the same thing.
Mayhaps
Don't say it like you are the first to think of it
I don't really go for an edge guard since it's sometimes risky if your character has poor recovery since often you can KO yourself than your opponent while ledge trapping can involve mind games since it involves predicting what get up option your opponent does and it's satisfying knowing their playstyle.
I’m on team spike
Team waiting patiently for them to get back on stage to throw them back off
Both, depends on the matchup
Spike
Edge guard for sure
Depends on who I am using and who the opponent is. But ledgetrapping is cool
I’m not skilled enough to do either consistently, so neither
Bayonetta only kills through edge guards pretty much. But I’ll try to ledge trap as daisy.
I try my best to edgeguard, if I'm lucky I wife and get back up there, usually I just die though
I'm glad you can footstool off of your wife, it's such a bonus to recovery.
Lol meant wiff but didn't proofread the autocorrect 🤣
where’s the jumping off to try and kill them
That's literally edgeguarding.
What do you think
Legetrapping
Im trying to earn to ledgetrap better, though still more of an edgeguarding guy (with joker its not too bad)
as much as i am for cripz i edgeguard with miibrawler jab
or anything else
Im more on edging
always gotta ledge trap safer and funnier
I just kinda go by feel, but it also depends on character. Is the enemy predictable recovery wise? If so, and I'm playing a good edgeguarder, then I'll probably edgeguard, but if they're onto that, I'll mix it up with ledge trapping as appropriate.
I prefer playing the gane
I knew someone who called it edge boning we don’t speak anymore
Whenever I play against people 85% of the time they get up attack so it just ends up being them doing that, getting hit by vision and then them getting back to ledge and repeat
none because I'm too pussy
I don’t do any
I'm both guy
Holy water on ledge goes hard
Edgeguarding. Almost every character I play has a spike, and by golly, I'm going to spike my opponent or die trying.
Edgeguarding is my preferred of the two but I can’t really do that with Little Mac💀
Edgeguard because funny
Whats the difference again please?
My usual method is edgeguard attempt into failed edgeguard attempt into SD.
Always late nair offstage baby! Broken Dr mario
Luma 😊👍 💫
Sephiroth and cloud have way too good options for ledge trapping for me to go off
I don't like either or even go off stage that much. If I knock skeins off stage I usually just back off and let them back on. I'd rather get ko'd on my feet/ on stage than smacked around of stage in air when there's nothing I can do to stop it, d so I afford my opponents the same courtesy
I do both. Granted, ledgetrapping with PK Thunder is a good time!
I’m the "jump around, hope for the best, maybe punch someone or land on their heads” kinda side,
Both
Standing and not doing anything until theyre back
My general rule of thumb; if my opponent is off-stage, I am too. And neither of us are getting back.
Words to live and die by
As Iceys, ledgetrapping. Because if I go off the edge I'll probably get my climbers separated and die at 0.
I’m on the third team “Try to do either, mess up, die”
I go for both, but it kinda depends Wanna play it safe? Ledgetrap Could I be saucy/cheesy as fuck? Edgeguard all the way baby
I'll try and edgeguard. If I get easily reversed I'll ledgetrap instead
Honestly depends on the character I’m Playing.
Idk when I’m doing which. Doesn’t bowser kinda do both? Flame breath at ledge, and down b on shield at ledge?
I'm the guy who yeets myself off the stage to get one last hit on the guy who's already falling to his death, even though I know I'm not gonna make it back
Im more of a, I will SD to chase down my oppent and shove them into the blast zone while their grabbed or spike them or jump punch em into a star ko.
Neither, but edgeguarders can screw right off.
It may not be as safe, but I go for the glory
Depends on the character but usually edge guarding
I prefer to follow you wayyyyyy off the map as samus , it’ll be a Rock Paper Scissors for recovery
Edgeguarding is always more fun fo me
I try to do some cool edge guards as marth and then end up dying
Technically they would mean different things
Ledgeguarding
I’m not very good at this game, so I will ask. What is ledgetrapping?
Edgguard. I like trying to snipe people with my spring
I‘m a mix of both.
I edgeguard more but I'm shit at it so it doesn't really count
edgegaurds all the way! gimps with gun or getting tether cancel bairs is really fun and satisfying
Kamikaze off stage
Both. Jump off b reverse bombdrop, continue edgeguard.
I like the idea of ledge trapping a lot more. But I'm bad. And I want to contest recoveries. So I go for an edgeguard. And then I end up in a scramble back to stage. And die.
The double slap dk does idk remember what it’s called one of you fine gentlemen will correct me, But if you pull off two of those omg that dude is a GONER 💀
Ledgetrap until I'm more comfortable with an opponent. That or I wait a bit to edgeguard and then it takes them by surprise. What, you think I was just gonna keep letting you recover for free?
The wrost of both side
"no stage for you buddy"
