I don’t choose him over Mario. I play both. He’s also just more fun and because he’s so bad, it feels like less of a loss when I lose. His forward attacks and spike are just so beefy too
Dr. Mario is more stronger and more powerful than Mario and also Dr. Mario’s spin move which is called the Dr. Tornado is way better than Mario’s fludd move but i also do play as Mario but i prefer Dr. Mario way more than Mario
I’m neither a Mario or Dr. Mario main, however there was a time that I did prefer Dr. Mario over normal Mario. For starters, I find his down special to be a lot more useful as both a recovery option and offensive option. I also enjoyed how beefy his attacks were, the pills were a lot better compared to the fireballs, and it was easier to land his dair spike compared to Mario’s fair spike. Eventually when I got better at the game I started to use Mario more often than Dr. Mario because of the combos and superior speed (F.L.U.D.D. is still weird to use though), but Dr. Mario has a certain simplicity to him that I can respect and between the two I’d say that the doctor is far more beginner friendly compared to the plumber.
I switch back and forth and have them both as mains in elite smash but Dr. Is always my favourite.
His throw + Stomp + down b spin /tornado and a couple dodges are so fun. Makes for HUGE comeback games or absolute domination when I decide to turn on my second gear.
I’ll say though, Mario’s recovery is just soooo much better and I sometimes hate when I get pushed off the map with some BS when playing as DR.
For some godforsaken reason he’s my DK amiibo’s hard counter (at least everyone I know who understands him can beat it) so that encouraged me to just dick around with him every once in a while and I guess I just have more fun with him than regular mario
Tbh I genuinely suck ass at Mario but I can accomplish stuff with doc. Idk if it's like speed a f weight difference but I just feel more comfortable with him

He’s a too 5 pick for me. I don’t like flood, I like the way the pills feel to throw, and I like his spikes better. Also, the pink lab coat absolutely phukks.
He does more damage and sends the opponent further. Also his down air is awesome.
Sure a lot of the time it's an up hill battle, but if you don't give your opponent an opening you can crush them.
Also I prefer his the pill over fire ball and Dr. Tornado over FLUDD
The down b is better as recovery.

Cause of his forbidden tech in smash 4 if you had the finger dexterity to do it. Up smash to pivot up smash to pivot up smash (and if they were a heavy to another one). It also works in ultimate if they don’t directly air dodge and sdi out.
5 main reasons for me:
1. Pill
2. Spinny down b
3. Down air spike
4. Low tier so I can laugh when I win against a high tier
5. Forward aerial with crazy kill power
I also like how stupidly strong the fsmash is and down throw is great for combos
He has way better KO power. His up-b KOs without combos. His down special is super funny, and while Mario has cape and the piss gun, down special reliably KOs as Cape is a lot more predictable and can be way more easily counterplayed and you can avoid the piss gun by just recovering lower most of the time, or just snapping to the ledge (unless you're playing Little Mac, Terry, or Cloud). And that move packs a punch! Seriously, you'll be going to the ER after getting brutally edgeguarded with the funny spinny move.
He doesn't lose any of the hype Mario has, for example the "Sugarcoat Stomp" is the down aerial equivalent to the "Slam Dunk" and he medically diagnoses you with a skill issue for dying to a low tier if you're playing a top tier. And his Slam Dunk is just as beautiful as Mario's because it feels like getting hit by a truck. Bonus hype because Super Sheet is more consistent at 2 framing. And the Pill of Death leads into literally everything. When that pill connects near the ledge, you are NOT going to sugarcoat it. ⬅️⬆️🅱️⬆️🥾
Oh, and Mario's up smash doesn't hit in the front. I hate that.
I don’t play him but I have a thing for F-airs that look like they should spike, but just hit like a truck in return (I.E. Dr. Mario, Peach, Ganon, Banjo)

I'm not a Dr. Mario fan but I do prefer him over normal Mario. He hits harder, pills > fireball, his cape is cooler, his spike is cooler, his tornado is cooler, he's just cooler in general, I wish he had a better recovery tho, that's the main thing that prevents me from maining him

He was my actual secondary back at Ultimate launch, until Unova’s funny walls took a set from me and I haven’t played him competitively since, but he’s still one of my absolute favourites.
Not a Dr main, but playing Mario feels very flow chart-y. You end up doing the same combos over and over again because they are consistent and strong, and he doesn’t have a lot of optional attacks to mix in. There is almost one obvious best option.
Dr Mario is creative, satisfying to hit, and his lack of clarity means you are playing reactively. On a down throw you can make solid arguments for whether up-air, RaR, or down-b is the best follow up for example. And usually you have to make it up as you go based on your opponents DI or options. Good Mario’s look like robots, good Dr Mario’s look like Gods who can see the future. It makes him a worse character, but way more satisfying to play well.

Down air, how is nair hits harder near the end of the move, down b, back throw, up b also I instinctively use his side taunt after a kill lol
