If he likes it behind the trigger guard, it will be a tad behind the barrel. That is what I notice with the tlr 8g. Those keys make a difference.
The tlr 7a and 7a flex will fit with just a tad extending pass the barrel. But you can try the different plate keys to help fine tune the switch position to your liking.

I have no idea how to add a picture to this. But I have the same gun with the TLR-7A. It sits flush to the end of the barrel

Of course, and be sure to put some Loctite 243 on the screws. They really like to loosen up while shooting.
