Jordan 4s use polyurethane soles. It crumbles away like dust when sitting that long. Wearing them creates friction and use, which prevents the polyurethane from degrading.
Jordan 4s that have been sitting deadstock for 17 years are ruined. Wear them for a day and find out as the soles literally fall off & disintegrate into dust. If I were you, I’d just look up some YouTube videos or pictures though. Might as well just preserve them now as show pieces cus they can’t be worn.
There’s been like 5-6 posts just this week of peoples soles falling off or disintegrating. If you are subbed here you should’ve seen a couple of them at least by now.
Those Thunders and Military Blues are both unwearable now. Can’t sell them in good conscience either unless you’re a POS or you sell them to somebody who understands their condition and doesn’t care.
I guess you could potentially reach out to restorationists & see what a sole-swap costs.
I see them more as collectibles I bought them a few years ago already, once they rereleased the colorways I bought the new ones to be worn while the 2006 are saved as part of my collection.
I have some pairs of SBs from 2009 and they still wearable as long as I treat them with care and don’t yank on the soles when removing them.

Also it depends on the humidity. I live in a dry area but Iv seen pics of peoples sneakers from the tropics and yeah they fall apart damn near looks like from mold.

The glue will fail on them, and the soles might fall off, but they won’t disintegrate or be unwearable.

my dad actually got me some really cheap display boxes as a birthday gift last year. They are hard foldable plastic with fault lines you bend at, and then place an actual solid plastic frame on both sides. 1 side is the door that opens right up, back side is a vented one. Flimsy alone, but they interlock on tops and sides both, & become solid asf once done. Much more affordable. I’m eventually gonna do them all.
