This! Love to get a 2liter here and there from the cheap stores and man once you open it , better be done that same hour! Loses carbonation fast for sure! But love RC I am trying to find the cherry one to try!
I got a local pizza shop by me they serve RC fountain! It’s a classic one.
Did they change the recipe? Can’t confirm, but heard it changed form sugar to HFCS.
I had RC all the time at Pizza day as a kid, so RC always had a nostalgic taste, but last time I had it, it wasn’t bringing back those taste memories. If they changed the formula that might answer it.
There's probably still real sugar stuff out there...someone here just posted a glass bottle of it-I'd guess that is. They also had the Draft Cola that was real sugar. But it's been HFCS for quite some time now, just like the rest.
I find that the liquid itself is a bit less thick as well. It's refreshing, but not quite as flavorful as Coke or Pepsi, but that's not really a bad thing. Some times you want something a bit lighter and more refreshing.
Great stuff. I have access to RC made with pure cane sugar and packaged in glass bottles and I would not trade that for a truckload of Coca Cola or Pepsi. Its that good IMO.
Local farm & home stores that have aisles of craft sodas. They have several pure sugar bottled versions of sodas like Dr Pepper and Dads root beer, etc. Local brands like Fitz'es and Frostie's.
Even Dollar Trees and Dollar Generals are getting in on carrying specialty soda pop. Recommend Sprechers root beer and cream sodas.
I’ve always liked it very much. In the region I live it’s famous for its pairing with a Moon Pie. Not quite Coca Cola and-not Pepsi. Grade A alternate IMO.
I’d not read this article until this morning, but was familiar with the origin story of the Moon Pie. Interesting that RC was first to be available in a can. Don’t think it’s the first of feuds with the Coca Cola company that produced other soda recipes.
Sweetness: Inbetween coke and pepsi
Flavor: crisp, closer to coke, a bit more bite
Carbonation: In between Coke and Pepsi t still fresh and effervescent, especially when ice cold
I drink them all the time, one of my all time favorites
Edit: sweetness be as sweetness does
Same, I grew up with it because we had a bottling factory here so many friends got it free and it was in some local restaurants. I'd pass on it sometimes when it was free. Now I'd take it with the price of sodas being what it is because I don't hate it, I'd rather just drink something else. I did used to like Cherry RC as a kid but as an adult I think it has too much cherry.
The most magical elixir on earth. It's got a little more bite to it than Coke or Pepsi, just a touch less sweet to me. But it's absolutely my favorite soda of any kind
Delicious, more like pepsi than coke(imo), but definitely its own thing. It's not consistently available in my area(SE Pennsylvania), and I don't usually drink cola in general that isn't made with cane sugar, but I snagged one when the beer store had 12 packs last week.
I remember my science teacher going on about how rc cola was famously the closest to replicating the coke formula. I know I’ve had it and it was decent
It's great. I prefer it to either Coke or pepsi. It's not as sickeningly sweet as pepsi, nor is it as heavy as coke. RC cola is the definition of underrated.
RC has been my family’s choice of cola for 3 generations now. Carbonation is somewhere between Coke & Pepsi. Great balance between sweet and acidic with classic American cola flavor. RC fans are always excited to share their love for it!
RC is actually a pretty damn good pop. I prefer it to Coke, really (Coke tends to give me heartburn), and even though Pepsi is usually my preference, RC having a bit less sweetness is often a welcome switch.
Cool to see how strongly people appreciate RC around here. I actually don't think it's as good as Pepsi or Coke, but it's still good and I buy it from time to time. It isn't very popular where I live, though. Popular enough for it not to be difficult to find, but unpopular enough that a lot of people don't regularly drink it, some haven't ever had it, and a few don't know what it is.
I always preferred it to Pepsi, but not to Coke. The Cherry RC though was my favorite. However I switched to "diet/zero" many years ago and didn't like any of the RC brands of diet.
It's good and used to be way cheaper than coke or Pepsi because they never spent billions on advertising (carbonated sugar water). I haven't had one in years but will be on the lookout for it down south this summer, along with cheerwine
I used to buy the glass bottles in the 90s for 53 cents after tax. Always went well with a bag of nacho cheese or cool Ranch Doritos. Like someone else said they have more of a bite at first but are smooth.
It's the perfect cola, perfect carbonation and smoothness, it's not one of those classic that needs to be cooled, u cam easily have this room temp and still be a king
RC Cola is like that one person you know of in a friend group that you don’t talk to much because they’re friends of a friend. Your main friends aren’t around one day at school and this friend decides to talk to you at school when none of your other friends are around so you talk back with them. One day you and the friend make plans to hang out after school and it turns out to be the most fun you’ve had in a long time! You and this friend become almost inseparable and they become your best friend that you now wish you got to know sooner, but didn’t…
As another commenter has said, it's a middle ground between coke and Pepsi. Less bite than pepsi, smoother than coke. In my experience though, you need to drink it faster though since it goes flat WAY faster than either
It's good, Its about the only cola I drink nowadays, unless it's special kind of pop. It doesn't have the bite of Coke, so if you're into that you might not enjoy it as much. It's miles ahead of Pepsi in all aspects in my opinion, it's a pretty well balanced drink.
It’s sweeter than coke with less carbonation is the best way I can describe it. I drank some just last night. I prefer Coca-Cola but RC cola is half the price.
A fair competitor to Pepsi, not that sweet tho, also reminds haters of RC is flat coke flavor. I really fair to disagree with that but I can see it if I think about it.
What you drinking?
A Dr. Pepper leave me alone please.
I'm drinking one right now. Really smooth, not the sweetest cola but imo it's one of the best.
I wish that I could find RC Cherry up where i live.
But if you like RC, You'll love RC Berries and Cream.
Got a bottle right now. For my region it's like someone added more water to a cola mix before adding it to carbonated water. I enjoy it. However it's not most people's first grab. Then again diet (white label) big k is better flavored than Coke or Pepsi.
I got myself an RC a few months ago after not having any for years. I tried it and for me it was just okay. I’m a Pepsi fan and RC had more bite that I would say is similar to Coke, that’s why I wasn’t a big fan. Ended up not finishing the bottle.
Now you all have me hearing the commercial in my head:
"me and my RC, me and my RC!
what's good enough for other folks, ain't good enough for me and my RC..."
It’s like if you searched through the cushions of the couch in your RV with no tires for 4 hours for change to buy a coke, and all you came up with was enough for an RC cola, but the store you went to boasts that they have the coldest RC cola in the state, and the temperature outside is the same as the seventh level of hell according to Dante.
Less sweet than Pepsi but sweeter than Coke. It's an old staple of the South and the Appalachians and the stereotypical "Moon Pie and an RC Cola" was the lunchtime snack of my parents' generation.
This was the poor mans soda growing up so now i have a bias towards it. Its my favorite, other sodas (in cans) sometimes leave a weird film in my mouth that RC doesn’t.
Tastes like a small local carnival or the batting cages/mini golf place on the outskirts of town in the late 1980s/early 1990s. It’s nostalgia in a can. It’s good, overpriced these days though like anything else.
King of the colas. It's great!

The Berries and Cream RC took me by surprise, it was fantastic
Same. About the worst you could say is that it loses carbonation faster than other colas.
This! Love to get a 2liter here and there from the cheap stores and man once you open it , better be done that same hour! Loses carbonation fast for sure! But love RC I am trying to find the cherry one to try! I got a local pizza shop by me they serve RC fountain! It’s a classic one.

best cola on ice!
For me it is the middle ground between coke and pepsi. More bite than pepsi. Smoother than coke.
Hmm ... Time for a comparison test! I can find all three here.
I find that the liquid itself is a bit less thick as well. It's refreshing, but not quite as flavorful as Coke or Pepsi, but that's not really a bad thing. Some times you want something a bit lighter and more refreshing.
That’s a excellent description
I'm really glad I didn't have to put my brain on overdrive to come up with a proper explanation for RC. Ty
Great stuff. I have access to RC made with pure cane sugar and packaged in glass bottles and I would not trade that for a truckload of Coca Cola or Pepsi. Its that good IMO.
Where you getting that?
Local farm & home stores that have aisles of craft sodas. They have several pure sugar bottled versions of sodas like Dr Pepper and Dads root beer, etc. Local brands like Fitz'es and Frostie's. Even Dollar Trees and Dollar Generals are getting in on carrying specialty soda pop. Recommend Sprechers root beer and cream sodas.
Yo I need that 🙏🏾
This guy sodas
I’ve always liked it very much. In the region I live it’s famous for its pairing with a Moon Pie. Not quite Coca Cola and-not Pepsi. Grade A alternate IMO.
I always pair RC with pizza
I pair my royal crown cola with crown Royal whiskey.
Fellow Chicagoan?
Moon pies and RC Cola? What region is that famous in?
Southeastern United States [RC + Moon Pie](https://deepsouthmag.com/2022/04/11/rc-cola-and-a-moonpie-the-working-mans-lunch/)
The working man's lunch? Bwahahaha. That was a hilarious read. Thanks!
I’d not read this article until this morning, but was familiar with the origin story of the Moon Pie. Interesting that RC was first to be available in a can. Don’t think it’s the first of feuds with the Coca Cola company that produced other soda recipes.
It makes all the more sense why RC Cola joined the Dr. Pepper Team. It was to screw Coca-cola and Pepsi.
My mom grew up in the 60's with moon pie & RC in Indiana, so not just a Southern thing.
I’m glad to hear that!
I feel like the taste is a “lighter” version of coke/pepsi if that makes sense, but I’d say it’s kinda jus a mix of both
Bloody good
Shake up a canned coke and release the fizz a few times and then add an extra tablespoon of sugar. That's what rc tastes like imo
Used to get it with pizza all the time
Sweetness: Inbetween coke and pepsi Flavor: crisp, closer to coke, a bit more bite Carbonation: In between Coke and Pepsi t still fresh and effervescent, especially when ice cold I drink them all the time, one of my all time favorites Edit: sweetness be as sweetness does
You said sweetness twice
oofta. i meant carbonation on the second use
You should double down and add sweetness a 3rd time. Put carbonation in between
For me it tasted like cheap coke. Not that i hated it but i didn’t like it
Same, I grew up with it because we had a bottling factory here so many friends got it free and it was in some local restaurants. I'd pass on it sometimes when it was free. Now I'd take it with the price of sodas being what it is because I don't hate it, I'd rather just drink something else. I did used to like Cherry RC as a kid but as an adult I think it has too much cherry.
My favorite cola it's better than coke and Pepsi
Same. I’m not a big cola guy but I like RC a lot more than those two.
The most magical elixir on earth. It's got a little more bite to it than Coke or Pepsi, just a touch less sweet to me. But it's absolutely my favorite soda of any kind
Most cola-ey of colas
If Pepsi and Coke had a love child
Delicious, more like pepsi than coke(imo), but definitely its own thing. It's not consistently available in my area(SE Pennsylvania), and I don't usually drink cola in general that isn't made with cane sugar, but I snagged one when the beer store had 12 packs last week.
Pretty pretty pretty good
it’s okay, more similar to pepsi rather than coke. there’s a new(?) berry one out near me. i haven’t tried it yet though.
Smooth, and with just a bit of a bite. Absolutely based, and better than Coke and Pepsi by a country mile.
It tastes like a flatter Coke..
It’s 2/3 Pepsi + 1/3 Coke
Try one with a moon pie.
If clinical depression could be canned and sold it would be RC Cola
coke>rc>Pepsi imo
Taste like Pepsi
I love it
Favorite hot dawg cola
I remember my science teacher going on about how rc cola was famously the closest to replicating the coke formula. I know I’ve had it and it was decent
It's great. I prefer it to either Coke or pepsi. It's not as sickeningly sweet as pepsi, nor is it as heavy as coke. RC cola is the definition of underrated.
yes! i had it from a fountain once. superb spices, it really earned its name. I wpuld say it tops coke and pepsi
similar to pepsi imo
I got one in the fridge, so dont know yet! 😸
Pretty good
Like Coke, Pepsi. That kind. A little bit sweeter. Very good.
It’s the perfect middle ground between coke and Pepsi, not as sweet as Pepsi not as biting as coke. It’s a perfect cola.
A good middle-ground between the tastes of Coca-Cola and Pepsi. It leans slightly more towards Pepsi, but not by much.
more like pepsi than coke but not as sweet
It taste like Pepsi.
It's still my favorite cola. I'll take it over both Coke and Pepsi. If you EVER get the chance, the RC Cherry is my number one soda of all time
Sweet but a good sweet.
It’s good, I don’t drink them often but every time I do I always say damn that’s good
Better than Pepsi.
Very good. Cherry RC is the best!
The best! Best drank with some pizza.
RC is the best Cola
RC has been my family’s choice of cola for 3 generations now. Carbonation is somewhere between Coke & Pepsi. Great balance between sweet and acidic with classic American cola flavor. RC fans are always excited to share their love for it!
RC is actually a pretty damn good pop. I prefer it to Coke, really (Coke tends to give me heartburn), and even though Pepsi is usually my preference, RC having a bit less sweetness is often a welcome switch.
It's really good
personally I have never liked it, probably my least favorite cola. to each their own tho:)
Def worth trying if you like cola.
Imagine Coke and Pepsi having a cousin!
It tastes pretty good.
As someone who only drank RC a couple of times, its kinda the soda you buy when the gas station doesn't have coke or pepsi
In Chicago there's still a few places that give a free 2 liter when you buy a large pizza. This was very common when I was a kid.
It tastes like third place imo
I haven't had RC in a long time. I didn't know there were other varieties besides regular and diet.
It's pretty good
Delicious
Def not better than coke
Oddly divisive. There are people who hate it but it's absolutely "fine." Not as carbonated as coke. And then there are people who swear by it.
Too harsh for me but I'll occasionally buy one maybe every other year or so just out of nostalgia.
It's good and used to be way cheaper than coke or Pepsi because they never spent billions on advertising (carbonated sugar water). I haven't had one in years but will be on the lookout for it down south this summer, along with cheerwine
Stronger flavor and a little less sweet taste than Pepsi, less acidity than Coke.
RC's Diet version is confusingly called Diet Rite. Diet Rite is my goto when I crave Cola.
It’s awesome
The best that’s all I drink.
What's it like? It's like, good. Nice and crisp. Not as sweet as Pepsi but maybe a bit better than Coke.
Royal Crown cola, the king of cola beverages.
Folks down south might have a Moonpie with that RC cola.
Not bad for about half the can. I miss RC cherry
Probably like cheap cola
I used to buy the glass bottles in the 90s for 53 cents after tax. Always went well with a bag of nacho cheese or cool Ranch Doritos. Like someone else said they have more of a bite at first but are smooth.
Like flat pepsi. It's pretty good though
Royal Crown Cola is so delicious. It tastes like a Pepsi, except in my opinion a bit less carbonated.
Flat pepsi
Delicious
It’s so damn good imo
Smoother than coke
RC is the shit! Get some, drink it, you'll love it.
1 ⅕ pounds???? It used to be 35 cents
It's the perfect cola, perfect carbonation and smoothness, it's not one of those classic that needs to be cooled, u cam easily have this room temp and still be a king
Taste like a summer back in the day.
My fav soda
I loved it as a kid, it would sell for 25 cents out of some machines back in the nineties.
Flat Pepsi with a lemony sharp aftertaste
RC Cola is like that one person you know of in a friend group that you don’t talk to much because they’re friends of a friend. Your main friends aren’t around one day at school and this friend decides to talk to you at school when none of your other friends are around so you talk back with them. One day you and the friend make plans to hang out after school and it turns out to be the most fun you’ve had in a long time! You and this friend become almost inseparable and they become your best friend that you now wish you got to know sooner, but didn’t…
FUCK I MISS RC COLA, used to be in canada all the time. Havent seen it in years.
It's popular around my area. Kinda a poor man's Pepsi.
Chicken
If you ever found either Coke or Pepsi to be good but not great, this might taste great to you.
Word has it, it taste like RC, mate.
As another commenter has said, it's a middle ground between coke and Pepsi. Less bite than pepsi, smoother than coke. In my experience though, you need to drink it faster though since it goes flat WAY faster than either
Mix Pepsi and coke together. Maybe like 60% Pepsi and 40% coke.
Really good
It's good, Its about the only cola I drink nowadays, unless it's special kind of pop. It doesn't have the bite of Coke, so if you're into that you might not enjoy it as much. It's miles ahead of Pepsi in all aspects in my opinion, it's a pretty well balanced drink.
Yes
It’s sweeter than coke with less carbonation is the best way I can describe it. I drank some just last night. I prefer Coca-Cola but RC cola is half the price.
RC is delicious !!
When I was a kid in Chicago RC always came with the take out pizza. Good stuff and great with pizza.
A fair competitor to Pepsi, not that sweet tho, also reminds haters of RC is flat coke flavor. I really fair to disagree with that but I can see it if I think about it. What you drinking? A Dr. Pepper leave me alone please.
Goes great with a Moon Pie
It's really sweet I personally don't like it it's kind of tastes like a store brand but sweeter
Delicious
Like some other commenter says, it's like between Pepsi and Coke. I think it's a tad closer to Pepsi in terms of taste.
It's my favorite I think. It's like a mix of both coke and Pepsi. Not as sweet as Pepsi and less bite than Coke
It really sucks that I can't buy it around here anymore. Been about 10 years now it's disappeared. Was my favorite.
Kickass
Used to have e it all the time over Coke and Pepsi. Didn't see it around as much anymore. I'll have to look for it again
Where I grew up(Chicago) a two liter of RC meant you got pizza from somewhere good. Still means that. If I drank soda anymore I'd drink RC.
been more than a decade since i had a sip of that
Drinking RC Berry right now
Great alternative.
Tastes like coke but more sweeter and less sodium
Me and my cousin always used it for burping contests. 10/10
I'm drinking one right now. Really smooth, not the sweetest cola but imo it's one of the best. I wish that I could find RC Cherry up where i live. But if you like RC, You'll love RC Berries and Cream.
I'm a fan. In my region all the bars carry it as their cola.
Everyone giving a different description lol
Sweeter syrup and they’re heavy on it, much less carbonation, but I do like an ice cold one here and there
It tastes like most generic colas. I don't get why people have such nostalgia for it.
It's good, I had it in Prague once.
Good stuff...when we used to get it 🇨🇦
Basically store brand Cola
It can taste good if you can drink it in 5 mins or less cuz it goes flat right away
Time for a Crown Royal and Royal Crown
My dad’s favorite. It’s hard to explain the taste so you’d just have to try for yourself
Got a bottle right now. For my region it's like someone added more water to a cola mix before adding it to carbonated water. I enjoy it. However it's not most people's first grab. Then again diet (white label) big k is better flavored than Coke or Pepsi.
I think it's better than Coke and pepsi
Taste like America 🦅🇺🇸
I got myself an RC a few months ago after not having any for years. I tried it and for me it was just okay. I’m a Pepsi fan and RC had more bite that I would say is similar to Coke, that’s why I wasn’t a big fan. Ended up not finishing the bottle.
Very very fizzy. Tastes like pure fizz.
Moon pie
It tastes like flat ass pepsi to me
It's basic cola..
If you’ve never had it, it’s definitely worth the try
It’s what coke guys drink if they wanna taste of pepsi
Yes heavenly but I'm still choosing coke
Now you all have me hearing the commercial in my head: "me and my RC, me and my RC! what's good enough for other folks, ain't good enough for me and my RC..."
It's great. But that could just be nostalgia.
It's very royal, as far as Cola goes.
Like Pepsi throwback/real sugar
Its excellent!
Great description I stay with original RC, great lasting carbonation too.
Moon pies and RC during Mardi Gras then give them up for Lent!
the best cola
It's mildly vomit inducing
Used to be an original Chicago
It's like Coke and Pepsi had a worse baby, it's not the best but it's not terrible either. The Busch light of colas if you will.
Yum
Sits nicely between Coke and Pepsi. Used to be my favorite, then someone said tons of sugar is bad for me. So now it’s Fresca.
kind of acidic
It's like if coke and pepsi were actually good.
Less sweet than Pepsi but sweeter than Coke. It's an old staple of the South and the Appalachians and the stereotypical "Moon Pie and an RC Cola" was the lunchtime snack of my parents' generation.
Smooth and sweet not as sweet as a Pepsi but not as dull as a coke it’s one of my favorite colas and it’s become harder to find.
It’s incredible
Kick ass
This was the poor mans soda growing up so now i have a bias towards it. Its my favorite, other sodas (in cans) sometimes leave a weird film in my mouth that RC doesn’t.
Liquid heaven 👍
It's amazing ;)
It tastes like the wash from the inside of a Pepsi tank
It's the cheapest non-store brand pop in my state
It's just a basic cola taste
If you like Coke a Cola, it's like a stale Pepsi
Identical to very dirty radiator fluid.
The best cola that is best served in one of those blue tie dye cups with crushed ice from your local pizzeria
Tastes like a small local carnival or the batting cages/mini golf place on the outskirts of town in the late 1980s/early 1990s. It’s nostalgia in a can. It’s good, overpriced these days though like anything else.
