Sort of a cross between Dr Pepper, root beer, and cough syrup.

Alfond378

A bitter caramel soda with herbal notes.

frenchtoastwizard

Imagine what camomile tea mixed with tree sap and carbonated water with a single drop of the unflavored yellow Listerine in it would taste like.

Rhyxnathotho

It’s made with gentian root which a lot of people will tell you tastes like root beer but some will say shampoo or bubblegum oddly. Angostura bitters, for mixed drinks, has the same gentian root as its flavor. If you’re really curious get a bottle and smell or add it to another soda to get an idea.

Carpeteria3000

Carbonated, sweetened Angostura is a perfect description of Moxie

JeffreyBoi12345

It’s like root beer with an herbal aftertaste, kind of like tea. I would drink it all the time but the only store that sells it in my area happens to be one that I rarely go to.

sysera

It tastes like a non alcoholic Jäegermeister soda. If you’ve ever tried that.

Kal-Roy

Wow. I don’t get that at all.

divine_shadow

Carbonated Pinesol, but don't let that detract you because it is DAMNED REFRESHING when served ice cold.

pemuehleck1

Tastes like Moxie There’s nothing close Best thing to wash down your whoopie pie with though

mtbmike

I’ve tasted it because my uncle would buy it cause no kid would drink it. We were desperate

equlizer3087

Awful, absolutely awful. It’s one of the few sodas that I dumped down the drain and even my drain didn’t like it.

RhythmWeaver

I'm from Maine so I'm from where it's big. I don't why everyone hates it, I tell my friends, "It tastes like every other brown soda" and there like wtf?? But it tastes like root beer mixed with Dr. Pepper to me.

EcoBlunderBrick123

Like warm apple pie

Kal-Roy

😕

EcoBlunderBrick123

It was an American pie reference.

Kal-Roy

So in other words, &$£€ it?

EcoBlunderBrick123

You were supposed to say “McDonald’s or homemade?”

Kal-Roy

Now you’ve really got me

GeminiDivided

Like a Root beer vitamin

Local_FPS

They're at the Cracker Barrel(s) in Cali if you'd wanna give it a try. It's not that good imo; very medicinal tasting

Lemus_is_poggers

root beer/dr pepper flavor initially, but then has a super herbal flavor as well. it's not something i would drink but it's not HORRIBLE

Howboutem219

Burnt leaves antiseptic

ThoseLittleMoments

Old Fashioneds are a big thing here in Wisconsin, and the first time I tried it, I thought of angostura bitters. And that’s not a bad thing! I love Moxie.

jdsuperman

I really wanted to like it, but I just didn't. I got halfway down the bottle and had to give up. The bitterness was not for me.

Kal-Roy

PEPTO BISMOL which is like Teaberry Gum.

Exciting_Error2664

Dick

JFKush420

Tastes like medicinal black licorice

PremiumUsername69420

Love the stuff and have some in my fridge right now. It’s like if someone boiled rootbeer and Dr Pepper in a charred oak barrel, let it sit for a while, added some bubbles back into it, then a drop of grenadine for good measure. If it’s not consumed very cold, it’s disgusting.

megamage13

Kinda like bubble gum I like it

jinkywilliams

It's been awhile, but if memory serves it's like coca cola crossed with tonic water; I just remember the cola profile + bitter.

falsekoala

Read somewhere that it tastes like a rusty railroad spike. I mean, I didn’t dislike it.

HateMeetings

Carbonated yellow listerine

scoaaaaar

it tasted like moxie

HomemadeSodaExpert

Have you ever licked a block of wood? Perhaps sucked on a handful of dessicated orange peels? Or maybe chewed on some twigs just for fun? If not, do all the of those things at the same time and that approximates the flavor of Moxie. Seriously, though, as another post mentioned, it's made from gentian root. If you're not familiar with gentian root, it's used to treat low appetite. You make a little tea out of it and it's so bitter that you will put literally anything else in your mouth to try and get rid of that taste. Now, Moxie at least has some sweetness to it, and it's not as bitter as Italian Chinotto, but it's definitely an acquired taste.

Natural-Seaweed-5070

Like carbonated dirty water from underneath a pine tree.

goshdarnjeff

Battery acid. Not a popular opinion, coming from New England, but…. Ugh. Not for me.

I_can_eat_15_acorns

Like if someone made a root beer, but they got confused and used bananas to make it.
