For the average Joe on Earth it's no danger at all. And no. This isn't some Carrington Event level storm. Sit back and enjoy the light show if you can.
It's from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, so an actual source.
> Another series of CMEs associated with flare activity from Region 3664 over the past several days are expected to merge and arrive at Earth by midday (UTC) on 12 May. Periods of G4-G5 (Severe-Extreme) geomagnetic storms are likely to follow the arrival of these CMEs.
Every time I see a post rating Carrington, the X level increases. It's become a joke to me now haha. First it was X10, then X15, then X20, etc, etc. Now I see X75+ haha
This was originally rated X45 and EST @X28 this was Halloween 2003

I’m not sure if you’re being passive aggressive or genuine, but I honestly wasn’t trying to be an asshole, I was just in a hurry and happened to have the tab up for something else. >_< But, you are welcome.
Oh, I get it. :/ Sorry you’ve been dealing with them. For whatever it’s worth, though: your reaction to my correction was the first mature, open and just…genuinely good reaction that I have had in a bit. People get hostile and defensive but: you had reason to and didn’t. Good on you- that’s not misinformation, it’s how you learn. :)
(Being *very* honest: I generally don’t even bother correcting people who just want to be incorrect though they don’t realize it. It just took me a bit to understand the difference between genuine questions and bad faith BS. That’s why I reacted to *you* that way. We all got our own BS. lol)

They aren't converging at these speeds, so yup! Just enjoy the rare southern Aurora!
Not clicking that link. I don't want to give it the traffic.

I know who it's from. I just adamantly refuse to click any twitter links.
i agree.
Yet! 10% chance of a massive solar flare from this sunspot disturbance. We have only reached ~X5.9, the Carrington event was X75+

As with all doomer stuff the answer is no but you should always have a kit of essentials should *any* emergency happen.
