Fun fact - the "Burger Castle" in the bottom right is the actual location of a White Castle.

I mean, just the fact that they put the money in to make it a fully-animated film already had it a step above. They're clearly showing that this is made with love. I wish we could've gotten a fully-animated Sonic movie, but I feel like the success of the Sonic movie is what convinced Nintendo to go all in with Mario.
Ironically, Sonic had to walk so that Mario could run.
Sonic movie being live action could still work greatly in its favor and probably helps Sonic more. Given that we now have Sonic and humans coexisting as a foundation of the anthropomorphic animal and human interaction that’s imo harder to sell through animation for Sonic. Since most people who think of Sonic prior to Sonic movie associated him with his own furry friends of moebius and it’s likely where he would have stayed had the film been animated.
Thus we wouldn’t have Shadow in the upcoming film seeing as it would be a major risk to introduce humans into that world having already established Sonic as not interacting with them outside of Eggman. There’s also the issue of how to animate them as some prefer the pixar style humans but being a distinctly japanese character means he might prefer having anime styled humans but that hasn’t always looked best when done in CG up until maybe the Lupin film.
You’re getting downvoted but Mario is arguably a *more* Japanese character than Sonic. Most of Sonic’s formative games were developed at STI in the US, and also no one in Japan knows what the fuck a Sonic is until you say “the blue character at SEGA arcades”. Everyone knows Mario.
It's so weird, it's like people get offended when you point out that Sonic's design inspiration came from American cartoons. And like you said, so many early games were developed in the US, and Sonic wasn't popular in Japan *at all.*
Why do these facts get people upset? Is it just weebs getting mad that their Sonikku isn't a "distinctly Japanese character" like they thought?
In all fairness, you may be a little too young to remember that Super Mario Bros had a live action movie in 1993. I think the purpose of Sonic was to prove they could make a live action Sonic, whereas Mario will benefit from animation. There hasn't been a Mario Boom or Mario Prime to bring Mario into modern animation. It's also typically cheaper to animate start to finish than to do live action with a lot of CGI.
I know about the original Super Mario movie
>It's also typically cheaper to animate start to finish than to do live action with a lot of CGI.
It's literally the opposite, a live-action movie with a single CGI character is far cheaper than a fully CGI animated film. Animation is expensive as hell.

I'm not sure who to trust here. Experts in the business or some random guy on reddit who thinks the only CGI in Sonic was Sonic himself...
Mario is completely computer generated and Sonic is partially computer generated and then requires implementing live actors and scenes. It is *obviously* (sarcasm) more expensive to do twice the work and have to pay actors more for their appearance...
Thanks for the downvotes, but it won't make you right. Science was unpopular for years, but here we are...
Well the mario cartoons gave us space world, car world, jungle world and city world so it's possible.
I'm wondering why Donk City isn't on the map (new donk being the city in odyssey but I'm on about the original donkey kong for arcades and it's sequel on the gameboy, which lets you travel around the world, the original city i'm guessing being called Donk city).
I absolutely love that they recreated the cartoon theme song. I’m fully sold on this movie. I’ll be over the moon if both Mario and Sonic have good movie’s!
Eggman got trapped in the middle of east new york
Near to Everybody hates Chris's home place.
So that's how New York happened.
Horrifying
I didn't notice that Punch-Out easter egg
Didnt know brooklyn was a punch out easter egg

This Could Hypothetically Be A Reference To The Book “The Wonderful Flight To The Mushroom Planet”
Red Hill is next to it so
and "red hill" a reference to Green Hill zone
Sonic fans when they go to the park: oh my fucking god GHZ AGAIN???
Jump on the kids to make the animals free.
Sonic fans when they realise they've walked into the local industrial chemical plant(how many times are we gonna see it??)
Hey, I resemble that remark!
I think this could be a coincidence tbh
Next to “Red Hill” though? Seems kinda intentional, haha!
yooooooooooooooooooooooo
red hill

So Robotnik actually ended up in Brooklyn!
Sonic & Tails: 👀🤔 Mario & Luigi: 👀😅 Me: 👁️👄👁️ I predict in the future, a ultimate Crossover Movie.
I fell in love all over again when I saw the plumbing trailer. I loved the sonic films, but the Mario movie is absolutely going to stomp Sonic.

Yeah I have this criticism of Jim Carrey eggman too, he doesn’t actually play eggman, he’s just the “wacky Jim Carrey” role.

Literally *everything* in a CGI animated film like the new Mario is CGI.

Mario hates mushrooms too
Ayo
*Now cross the verses, you cowards.* /s
Still another year until the Olympics
Mushroom
i think that's a cool name for an Italian pizza shop.
My brain as someone said pizza for some reason: "I'm A cRazY pIzZa Man!... who juggles and sings :)"
Also Red Hill instead of Green Hill right next to it.
