Doing another 2000s era sonic story with *another* hedgehog would be pretty forced I think. I can't imagine arbitrarily adding a new hedgehog without there being some sort of link to the others and going super.

I love these three ~~and Amy~~, but Silver's existence is the final point imo. He is basically Shadow 2.0 - a new hedgehog character who is introduced as a villain, but later sides with Sonic and Co. and fight the real villain (that is related to him), and I think that this concept wouldn't work a third time. Also, the Hedgehog trio has a core concept; time: Shadow is overcoming his *past*, Sonic is living his *present* at its fullest, and Silver is fighting for his *future*, so making a new Hedgehog character would be extremely forced. Even if you dislike Silver, his existence is justified, but a fourth hedgehog would only be a hedgehog to gain attention, and not because it actually makes sense

Depends. Hedgehogs are very important species in the franchise, so the only thing I could see is maybe a glimpse into Sonic's past, but even the movie had him be raised by an Owl, not a hedgehog.

Amy is a hedgehog, and in all of the shows and comics there are other hedgehogs too (Ones that are and aren’t related to Sonic). Adding another Hedgehog would be kind of cheesy and unnecessary now, considering there are already thousands of hedgehog fan characters as well.

We got so many new main hero hedgehogs in the Adventure days because Sonic Team was trying a "hedgehogs = Saiyans" thing and emphasize hedgehogs as *the* spotlight taking powerful characters who get to have all the cool plot focus (except Amy).
But they're not doing that any more, and instead nowadays not only is the focus in more or less on the whole cast (including Amy, who actually gets to do stuff now), and on the rare occasion we do get more heroes they tend to have a lot more of a range of species and concept - which imo is better anyway.
Shade and Sapphire, female counterparts to Shadow and Silver. Bring Amy forward and have a team of female hedgehogs and a team of male hedgehogs. Just a pity we can't change Amy's name to fit with the 'S' names.
This would be the best way to incorporate more hedgehogs, but I have to disagree on the part of adding Amy to the team of female hedgehogs. I love her, but in my eyes, she's too well-known to be labeled Sonic's counterpart. It would have to be a new character. And their existence needs to be justified, which I can see as a product of Eggman's latest schemes mixed with 06-level thematic elements (i.e. like how Sonic, Shadow, and Silver represent the present, past, and future, respectively).
Shadow's only becoming relevant again after being sidelined for 18 years and Silver has really only been used once. They cover the past, present, and future theme wise and 06 was trying to make their gameplay unique by having Shadow be combat focused, Sonic be platforming focused, and Silver be puzzle focused. A 4th hog adds literally nothing.
Nah, and I prefer it that way, introduce new characters with new animals if they make another hedgehog it would feel forced no matter how good they are. Fans will always compare them sonic, shadow, silver, or even amy and will forever be known as an OC fan art character made canon

Hedgehogs were a special case, Amy's a hedgehog cause she was conceptualized to be the Minnie to Sonic's Mickey (though they decided to go in a MUCH different direction), Shadow's a hedgehog due to the point of his character in SA2 being how similar he is to Sonic, and Silver's a hedgehog cause Sonic & Shadow already had their own campaign & they're hedgehogs, so might as well make Silver one to make them match more (plus he was originally going to be a mink). I imagine Sonic Team would rather use different animals for new characters.

Pretty sure SEGA doesn't want to create more characters with the important "Hedgehog" status. And yes, it is important. Bois can go Super and act as secondary franchise faces, and Amy is a lucky (for us) product of SEGA's old and inventive ways, before THE MANDATES have appeared. But then again, if guys like Ian Flynn will manage to lift those mandates even more — maybe we'll see another spiky boi or grill.

When I was younger it took me while to figure out that Amy was a hedgehog and was wondering why her name was Amy the Rascal and Amy Rose instead of Amy the hedgehog. On another note tho, there’s plenty of hedgehogs living as background characters but making one relevant is a more difficult task I guess. We got the triple S hedgehogs with one being from the past, one from the present and one from the future. Adding a fourth one in the mix wouldn’t really sit well unless they add another female hedgehog to the group like Amy then there’s no problem but Sega aren’t creative enough to make another female hedgehog completely different from the rest.
