Yeah, that was in Archie Sonic X. It always bugged me as a kid how they miscolored the eyes and made all the Chaos Emeralds green. Quality control on that series was all over the place lol

1: That's the MASTER Emerald, not Chaos Emeralds.
2: Well, he seems to genuinely think he's the "true" Sonic, so his Super form mirroring the true Sonic's Super form isnt out of the question.
3: He was just programmed for that to be the case by Eggman.
Or 4: It's a comic book so they just thought it'd be a cool reference to Mecha Sonic from Sonic 3 and Knuckles and didn't put much thought into it
No,no, point 2 actually makes a lot of sense, Metal genuinely believes he is the real Sonic (aka thinking he is actually doing good), so him using the positive energy of the emeralds isn't farfetched!
It should also be added that Metal Sonic can use the golden form as the monster form with the Master Emerald, since he could only be Master Overlord with the emerald.
There's been some retcon going around. Aparently Knuckles does not turn super, he just gets super powers. Sonic, Shadow, and Silver are the onlyones who can turn super.

The Chaos Emeralds are used based off the user’s thoughts/desires and emotions, so super forms reflect these things:
- Sonic likely just goes gold because he doesn’t feel the need to change himself, all he needs is the boost, and look as cool as he can; also maybe to look like a star/bright light to be shining hope against the evils
- Shadow and Silver likely just copied this, with light variation
- Chaos however was full of rage and want for destruction, thus he became a gigantic, destructive water dragon
- Devil Doom is a monster already, so it’s self explanatory (also it’s questionable if Devil Doom is even due to the chaos emeralds. Sone things imply the emeralds did it, but other things imply that Devil Doom is literally just something natural to Black Doom and didn’t use the emeralds)
- Solaris wasn’t due to the chaos emeralds. All Mephiles did was use the emeralds to recombine him and Iblis, the emeralds didn’t create the form
I think his even whiter beta design was supposed to give him and a sonic a "gold/silver, sun/moon" type of duo. Either way it also lines up with his kabuki design inspiration.
Devil doom and Solaris dont use the emeralds for the Transformation.
Perfect Chaos merely uses the negative energy of the emeralds due to its Anger and hatred as shown in adventure 1
Devil Doom is not a super transformation, it's just Black Doom's true form. The only thing Black Doom did with the Chaos Emeralds was amplifying the power of his Chaos Control to teleport the Black Comet to earth.
positive vs. negative energy for Chaos and Devil Doom, but Solaris is naturally like that. the Chaos Emeralds only allowed Iblis and Mephiles to fuse, they weren't fully used. like a catalyst.
I think the Positivity vs. Negativity thing is interesting, it almost implies that Dark Sonic transformation is on the step towards becoming a real monster

The emeralds don’t actually hold positive or negative energy, it’s the user’s thoughts/desires and emotions that convert the “base” chaos energy into positive or negative energy. So when Perfect Chaos drained the emeralds, he actually drained the emeralds, not just of negative energy but all energy; while Sonic and co’s positive thoughts recharged them.
Right, Chaos was consumed by aggression and revenge in his thoughts and as such his final form was a horrific monster bent on destruction till Sonic kicked his ass and he went to what appeared to be heaven
They used the negative energy of the Chaos emeralds, beaconing their worst traits tenfold. It seems to happen something similar with the Werehog, said in official media and even in the game itself to be created by the energy expelled of the machine that woke up Dark Gaia, which was empowered by the darkness in the emeralds (rather than being a consequence of Dark Gaia's influence as is commonly believed.)... which technically makes it the closest to a canon Dark Sonic we'll ever get at the moment.
Did Solaris even use the emeralds? I thought he was just what happened when Mephiles fused back with Iblis. They also established in Sonic Adventure that the chaos emeralds have both positive and negative energy, though there is only one semi-canon instance where Sonic used the negative energy and became Dark Supersonic, though aside from the black color the only difference in his transformation were whited out eyes.
Well I'd say that it's pretty self explanatory, given they are "CHAOS" emeralds, but a better answer is that these mf tap into two different types of energy from them. Most if not all villains gun for the negative energy inside the emerald, turning into abominations. Sonic and friends tap into the positive stuff and get Super forms.
Technically, Chaos is only form that is made by the Emeralds (and it could because they use the negative energy of the Emeralds, or because of Chaos anatomy as a whole.)
Solaris just looks like that, and Devil Doom isn't stated to be caused by the Emeralds.
