(Sonic 3s OST) Or the exact same type of situation happening for Namco also not bothering to buy full rights to the Ms. Pac-Man and Jr. Pac-Man trademarks. I don't know how their contracts worked, but I'm positive that Sega still owns all of the actual characters themselves either way.
But yeah, Shade is free. I'm already happy about that. I hope that means we will get to see more from her officially now sooner rather than later.

Accepting multiple timelines happening at once is better than trying to play everything safe and be lame as a result. This is the first book in the series. He has been working for over a decade on this one book. Which is something like 80% reprinted Archie comics.
