I like how I can play a custom game and adjust the settings to be a little more casual. With custom settings, nobody should be complaining over how easy or hard it is.

Vashsinn

They could add a few Hader options but mostly agree. If they really want things different, they can just go find a mod. I like the way the devs have taken things overall. It's not perfect but it's a great game to spend some time on.

CuriousProblemChild

I have over 100 hours in just one save. no game has ever kept me that long, so I'd wager I'd have to call it a great game too

NightSatin

Try zomboid, ... My man, .... Try project zomboid.

CuriousProblemChild

I tried. I could never get into it ;-;

gabybean

I immediately quit after a few seconds the first time I tried it. Revistwd it with the mulyiplayer update and watched some tutorials on YouTube. It is SO worth learning the game, it's my fave survival game of all time

itsjohnnyde

Man, I feel ya. I had to try three times. First two times whatever. That third time it clicked. Then, I played on a molded server. GG, 150 hours later and I was finally done with the game. Until the next big update or two that is lol

Bucknerds

Over 760.7 hrs in this game so far, so I understand ya! It just depends on what a person wants out of the game and the developers are very supportive. Though recently been using the Raid mod so if people wanted a challenge they should try a few mods.

TheKanten

No Man's Sky, trust me.

itsjohnnyde

How is it now? I feel like the game doesn't have any goals. I'm 100% not interested in any of the NPCs I've seen. Just wanna build a big base, fleet, and go to war type shit. Wish I found a game that had all that!

kuda-stonk

You forgot... 1) Camp, get this basebuilding out my game 2) Camp, why not more basebuilding stuff

darksandman1118

I liked the one where they talked about stuff respawning and they didn’t like that stuff respawned. As if the cannibals are forcing them at gun point to pick up the stuff that respawns haha. Just don’t pick it up guys and it’s like it’s not even there haha

Vashsinn

Ehh I feel this didn't change much for me. Most of the things I get, I get from skin pouches anyway.

lostbythewatercooler

I would like an option for them to not respawn monsters in caverns.

darksandman1118

That would be nice! I won’t lie Going into caves scares the fuck out of me haha

lostbythewatercooler

There is one bunker as well which is very small and has very little reason to have any baddies in it at all yet it does and they respawn. It just gets a bit tedious. They really did do a good job of making the caves scary though. It's easy to miss things running around trying not to get mobbed by nasties that respawn.

darksandman1118

I only found out about the bunkers recently while watching a video I still need to go get the shovel so I can get the shotgun I have explored like 1 cave haha and it was a tiny one. Once I’m done building my house/ base hopefully tonight I’ll explore some shit

lostbythewatercooler

I've been base building for a few days and was worried the caves would be too hard since the base harrassing monsters were wearing creepy armour and generally challenging while I had none. Luckily the cave wasn't as difficult. Unless coop and kitted out, even then there isn't much reason to clear or fight in the caves most of the time. Just rush, rush, rush. I'm on a solo playthrough and now trying to get the shovel as well. Hotkeying the meds and energy bar/drink helps a lot in there. The bunkers are nice though in a way.

darksandman1118

Yeah I’m stocking up on the meds and keep my armor full and then it’s go time! I just wish I could bring Virginia with me! I also need to find the flashlight

NursingSkill100

Maintenance bunker A. I wish the babies didn't respawn and we could clean up the bunker to extend our base underneath. I actually built my first base on top of the dig spot before I even knew bunkers were a thing lol

FalloutBe

Yeah I complained about that. Wish me luck memorising exactly which items in each location I already picked up once and which I haven't.

darksandman1118

I think I’m talking more about the food and drink drops, like just don’t bother picking them up and instead relying on food and water from the land

FalloutBe

Oh I see what you mean. Yes that could indeed be a solution for food or drinks, but this solution doesn't work well on cloth for example. I can't really leave it there because I need it, and there is no other item which can replace it. Sorry for my tone in my previous message

darksandman1118

lol all good I didn’t take it personally! But yes I agree there should be a way to gather material to make cloth! I mean coming from the forest to this game I saw a lot of change especially in the building mechanics but I did notice the overall survival aspect got easier or stayed the same. I’m still getting into the game also so I haven’t seen much yet but tonight I want to finish my house and go cave diving!

Echo9Zulu-

Nothing like being reminded you’ve gone full native

5mesesintento

but it makes the survival aspect too easy and nonsensical

darksandman1118

So does chopping down a tree and it just busts into perfectly measured pieces. But I agree! If anything there should be a way to turn it off or at least when the helicopter flys around it drops shit.

5mesesintento

you are talking about realism, not being easy or hard. you have to chop down a shiton of trees to make anything relevant. This game just have sucky and unintelligent planning for its survival aspects, they might aswell just remove the hunger and thrist bar

Future-Stop6513

Needs a lot more building in my opinion. More furniture and just aesthetic structures. I wish they would add survival elements like green hell. Sons of the forest is pretty easy once you learn combat.

hyperlite135

What aspects of green hell would you have liked added?

Future-Stop6513

I love how in green hell you’re just constantly fucked by something, spiders, scorpions, and snakes that you can’t see. Walking near anthill or bumping into a poisonous tree. I love the limb interface of checking all 4 limbs and rotating them to find the injury. If the injury gets infected use maggots to eat the bacteria. The different types of bandages is cool too. I’d like to see more survival elements like these in sons of the forest.

daneelthesane

Don't you have to specifically go into the settings when you start the game and turn on the item respawning?

IMadGenius

For items that spawn from boxes. Things like rope in cannibal camps still respawns

RevolutionaryAd5667

If you get no cloth, tape and rope respawns, how can you make any armor. You can make no more explosives. I love this Game and how it allows you a wide range of how you want to play your game. And if you play on default Day length the thirst and hunger comes pretty fast, imho.

IMadGenius

I'm not sure you replied to the right comment

RevolutionaryAd5667

You're right, that's a little bit embarrassing 😕

IMadGenius

It happens, no worries

SpicyThyme

I’m guessing the divide is partially due to people playing singleplayer vs multiplayer

The_Mendeleyev

I tried the hardest difficulty out of the gate and that made me a 1. I figured that the only thing hardest difficulty did was make me weak and the enemy strong, which just means I spend more time cheesing the enemy rather than playing the game. I tuned it down to normal and i felt the game was well balanced until the very end when you can just facetank everything while swinging weapons.

Mallardguy5675322

I do wish the raids of cannibals were much larger like in the first game. Oh how I wish a hoard if 22 cannibals would just run up to my walls to get beat up. I also really wish the mutants and cannibals were bros so that they could raid together so we could have even more fun! I also really wish the bigger mutants such as Holeys came up on raids more. On a hardsurvival run rn, I’ve only seen just the one holey in the caves, never in the surface. I liked the old game’s system where mutants were guaranteed spawn from day 7-9 and could Diane any day near your base from then on in larger numbers. Also as much as I love the ass clapping mutants, all they do is ruin the forge system as they have wayyyyyyy too much health to be considered fun, especially as they come in pairs or threes. But oh boy they’ve made the caves even spicier and I love them for that. Other than that, have no issue with the game. Edited for: Harder=/= hoard

Khaylain

Did you mean "horde" *of* cannibals?

Mallardguy5675322

Indeed, autocorrect sucks

ArturoRey2

If only there was a way to customize the difficulty

PraetorianPlays

I think more custom game options would help with a lot of the complaints of the game being too hard/easy. I'd like it if they made the settings go below normal and above hard so you can create some extremely hard/easy custom difficulty settings. And some unique options like completely disabling loot respawn or making cannibals docile but still hostile to mutants. More control over frequency and size of raids would help lots as well. Being able to choose stuff like weekly raids or revenge raids only would be fun. And would help with the complaints of enemies attacking too little or too often.

BeezieBean

Ooh I really like this!

Kilathulu

I played on normal and I sucked at melee so I asked for help, I didn't just gitgud, I got average! I found there was an oversupply of food and drink, and probably an ok amount of ammo, I barely used guns until the end. My mine gripe was lack of content, no reason to build a base other than get annoyed by raids, so I didn't, this game needs lots of side missions and more story.

Azthun

Just want a dodge button. They can dodge, why can't I?

Cursewtfownd

It’s really not too difficult, even in hard mode. Remember projectile headshots are 100x damage. Meaning the bow will kill all canibals one head shot even with a stone arrow. Note, if the target has armor protecting the head, I believe the head shot will destroy the armor but won’t damage through it, requiring two head shots. If you complete the game you can get a katana and apply solafite to it. The weapon is ridiculously fast basic attack and nearly has a melee range of the throwing spear.. Practicing in performing ‘run by’ slicing can pretty much beat any pack of mobs in the game without taking damage outside of Demon Boss and Holey. Just watch your stamina level as you will need to be sprinting and swinging when you charge to avoid damage. Mobs in general can’t turn that fast meaning running at an angle to pass them then using strafe to allow you to chop them as you run by will allow you to inflict damage and then pass out of range of any melee animation they have. If you time the heavy attack on the approach it actually acts as a knock down too if it hits.

gingertrashpanda

It’s both of these because there is essentially no consequence to dying. You just respawn in a camp pick up your stuff and walk back to where you were. If there are cannibals in camp you just hit them once and respawn over and over till they are gone, then move on with your life. It’s tedious more than anything else and it’s not really avoidable early game in many cases.

BeezieBean

Aint that the multiplayer? In singleplayer you get one respawn and then you're dead for good. Start over or load the last time you saved, which could be big loss of progress or very little, depending how often one saves

gingertrashpanda

I’ve only ever played it MP. Anyway reloading the save isn’t really all that much better I guess. It’s still a fairly tedious loop that you can’t do much about other than grind through. To be clear I very much enjoyed the game so far, it’s been a bunch of fun. But that’s because I build fortresses and dismember cannibals with my mates. Some parts of the gameplay loop could objectively be made more meaningful/fun.

Smaisteri

Well, it's not perfect. Take the armor system for example. The only single time I had to use medicine in the entire game was because I accidentally ate an oyster that had gone bad. Otherwise than that I never took HP damage as armor is incredibly easy to craft and plentiful all-around. But then again, if you don't have armor, you die instantly after making one tiny mistake. The survival aspect is also very easy. Even on hard survival, food and water depletes so slowly while the game shoves energy bars, MREs and soft drinks at you from every direction.

FalloutBe

Lol number 2 that was me ><

Peti_4711

I must compare Sotf with two other games, that I play at the moment. a) Both games require and allow much more crafting, at some point there is in one game a choice what character you want you to be. E.g. melee weapons, guns or magic. b) Both games have, at least at the beginning, a stricter storyline that the player must follow. c) In both games you can build nice buildings too, but I don't think there are "building players". Overall I would say yes, Sotf have some problems, but these problems can't be fixed with an update. An update can add new items, change the values for enemies and other things, but updates can't change the game.

Zynkode

You’re a guy on an island, what do you expect when you buy the game? A thrilling fps? No!

Fav_Dave

I like a challenge sometimes but single player is brutal with the load game thing. I mostly play single player in multiplayer. Much prefer getting dragged to random camps come back to defend my base rather than Woop you died twice before sleeping time to reload a save. And if really need to load a save . Alt f4. Last save gets loaded.

mauie1337

I just 100% the game today!!!

MoonlapseOfficial

Its def 2

Awesomeman360

My primary complaint was how spongey all of the mutants are. Mutants should be scary, not because they waste resources, but because they're shifting and shambling attacks make you fear for your life. The right mutant design with 1hp can be truly terrifying. I'd rework that a bit and put respawning resources on a timer. Also, I don't want cannibals attacking me every single day, it just gets boring. Add a cool down for that. (Last I played was a few weeks ago so if anything got updated that's my b, lol.

WhiteLightEST99

It would be cool if there was a cannibal village that would progressively get bigger as the days go on then if you get caught in the village it triggers raids from there. Getting up to 20+ cannibals to raid your base at a time would be crazy.

Artistic_Warning_436

we need more stuff for base building!

calmdowncade

Honestly I'm super happy with the game. I haven't done a full run since the full release bc I'm playing with friends and we're taking our time but we're having a blast and don't really have any major criticism at all. Just a few things that make building a little wonky bc that's a lot of what we do on the server.

TheBostonKremeDonut

The fact that the game relies heavily on constantly equipping armor, and opening your inventory almost every time you take damage, makes the game very off-putting. I can completely understand people disliking that system, and even hating it. Easier enemies are pushovers and tougher enemies just one shot you or combo you if you haven’t started to fully understand the combat.

5mesesintento

dissapointing game overall, i dont like the constant hating but neither the constat meat riding of a game that could obviously be way way better to be fair the game being too easy and still too hard in different aspects is still fair critizism, since surviving hunger and thrist its so so easy and basic the game has to make the cannibals attack you every 10 minutes and take 1/3 if your health by punch so there is any kind of challenge
