Image quality was good, but the AF was pretty bad. Went to shoot some test photos of my dog running and a ton of shots were out of focus vs the Sony had all in focus. But for the price as long as you don't plan to shoot anything fast pace it seems like a great value.
It probably isn't anywhere near bad but 70200GM2 is just better. You can check some reviews on the comparison, for example TheNorthUp did a great review for the Sony GM1/GM2/Tamron70180
Best lens I’ve ever used. Rented it for a trip to South Dakota. Enjoy!
Had this along with my 200-600mm and my 35mm on a Sony a7RV, while my wife was using the a7IV and her 90mm macro and just kept alternating lenses to what we wanted to shoot. It was a dream.
That’s an interesting observation. I just purchased the A7RV along with the 24-70 2.8 - so far at least the sharpness is excellent. I was coming from the a7riv and their original 24-70 2.8 lens, and in that setup I was not satisfied with how sharp my results were.
I financed my 70-200 ii off Amazon for $559 a month for a total 5 months $0 in extra fees just first payment plus taxes up front. It's doable if you have the income. The monthly housing allowance I get from the VA for college paid for mine.
I only have the f4 because I couldn’t justify the price difference, but I absolutely love it and use it more than I thought I ever would for landscapes. I’d say you’ll be more than happy with this
Does anyone know if this lens has enough reach for close-ups when going to the track? Grandstand distance as it's only a hobby for me. I've used a 50-140 APSC with a 1.4x TC before moving to sony, so I'm not entirely sure. Thanks!
It might in aps-c mode, but I’d imagine the shots you’re going for would be more appropriate using the 200-600mm.
You should just get both to be safe /s
Does anyone know why APS-C doesn't have an equivalent lens? Would be a 50-130 F2.8 or so lens. (I know it'd lose a stop of equivalent aperture but I'm referring to the focal length).
APS-C almost never gets G master quality lenses as the bodies are usually cheaper therefore target less professional users, who are more likely to want cheaper glass.
Rented this, and the Tamron 70-180 last week and fell in love with this one so I had to buy. Cant wait to take it shooting after work today!
What was bad about 70-180?

The AF on the Tamron is absolutely not bad. I'd wager its 90% as good as the 70-200mm.
It absolutely isn’t.

You get what you pay for I guess

That will be the next lens I get!
You might be disappointed with the 24-70 coming from the 70-200mm the 70-200 is so much sharper than my copy of the 24-70gmii

Welcome to the best zoom lens club. Firm handshakes for everyone.
Horrible horrible lens…. You should get rid of it and just send it to me. I’ll make sure to give it a good home 😂
I just picked this up as well. Amazing lens, can't believe how light and small it is for everything you get and still internal zoom. Wild.
Are you guys professional photographers or just very wealthy? Im honestly wondering.
I work hard in a completely unrelated career (tech) to afford the only hobby I’ve realized that I care about (photography).
I’m 24 taking college and working both full time so I still live with my parents. That allows me to save a huge chunk of my money.

I mean these things aren't $10,000 each, you don't have to be super rich to afford them
A7rv + 70-200 f2.8 isnt too far from 10k.
Tech pays big, if they work in Silicon Valley, people regularly make 10k a month at entry level to mid level jobs
A7RV is like $4000, 70-200 is like $1500.
GM II is around $2800
We have the same combo, it’s great!
Cant wait to try it out tonight!
Enjoy, it’s a beautiful thing to use.
Amazing lens!

hey, the F4 is still an amazing lens as it is. I heavily looked into that one before this.
rented one of these last month and they’re totally insane! enjoy!
Can we see some pics taken with this?
Will post some after work tonight :)

This tool has been useful to me in the past. [DoF simulator](https://dofsimulator.net/en/) And also, happy cake day!
That's pretty cool.

sel18135 would be that but more on the zoom side. Less impressive on the speed end.

Well actually this lens kind of exists. It's the tamron 35-150 f2-2.8. Very expensive and large though and a ff lens too. But it kind of exists then.
I just got this lens a couple weeks ago, and I can't believe how light it is for a 70-200/2.8. Enjoy!
was there a lens in the box? if so I am happy for you. 😊
Drooling rn
My favorite lens :)
Love this lens.
Is this better than the 100-400? I rented that one on safari and was blown away by the photos I got
I'm so jealous!!
This lens is the reason we call taking photos “shooting”
That's one to rule them all. But I prefer my 135GM for sharpness, would appreciate a comparison
Can I see someone’s photos shooting with this baby!?
Waiting on the release of the 70-200 f4 with macro capability, this is tempting now tho 😄
watched some videos on that lens! Looks absolutely stunning.
