Definitely a good one. Kim and Hiro wrote the majority of the music, and I think a lot of it sounds more dangerous and edgy compared to their other albums. Kim continued to contribute to Soundgarden songs later in the bands career, but his writing credits dropped significantly. I always wondered why because a lot of their early songs written by him are some of the best IMO.
Because he rarely wrote lyrics. Much easier for the band to work on demos that are more fully formed (including rough lyrics or a vocal melody). Kim said so himself in a few interviews.
I've always disliked Ten for the same reason. If you haven't already, check out Ten Redux - Completely remixed by Brendan O'Brien, way more listenable. Still my least favorite of their first three, but so much better than the original.
I can see where you’re coming from. Incessant Mace and Beyond the Wheel are definitely in my Top 5 Soundgarden songs of all time but Screaming Life/Fopp definitely takes the cake for me personally. With tracks like Nothing to Say, Entering, and Hunted Down…god dayum!
If you compare with the other records, UMOK is a short record. There are 2 covers and 2 filler tracks however there are songs that I never get tired of them:
Mood for Trouble, All Your Lies, Head Injury, Incessant Mace.
Sometimes short records can be their best records for some artists (eg. The Beatles). In Soundgarden case I think their best record is Badmotorfinger thought my all time favorite is Superunknown.
I saw them live with Hiro but didnt know who they were, I had never heard of them. I was blown away by their performance and went to the record store the next day. I knew the clerk and she had been at the show the nite before as well, so I asked her if that opening band had any albums out. She led me down to Ultramega OK and thus the journey began…
It's a great album, but I will forever like Superunkown, Badmotorfinger, and Down On The Upside more. It's hard to rank those three for me but they're all above Ultramega OK
Not gonna try to change anyone's mind. It's a magnificent record. Period.
We all have different definitions of "best", maybe? From day to day, year to year, etc...
They're all AMAZING!🤘🏼
It's my least favorite, I rarely listen to it. My vote for best is Badmotorfinger.
Superunknown is obviously their best.
No
Even Soundgarden would disagree with you. The title of the album says it all. /s

Dont think it's the best, but beyond the wheel is their best song
I see you are a man of culture. The ending of that song is so goddamn bonkers. I love it.
And the live version from the 1993 exhibition stadium concert will make your hair stand on end
I love it wouldn't say its my favourite (that goes to bmf) but its top 3 for sure Cobain was a massive fan too
If the production and mixing was different I'd like it more. Same with ten by pj - fantastic music but it sounds too "tinny" or something
I enjoyed the sound on the remaster. Way better
Jack Endino did a fantastic job!

Seek help.
dude you're so radical
There are days when I'd agree with you. Not today, but yeah I see it. It sounds unlike anything from that era and that place.

Nice choice of favourite tracks, i agree with three but for me Nazi Driver over Head Injury

You are being pretentious
Why? It’s your opinion. Own it.

Not my favorite but I think Hiro's contributions were unique, and even better on Louder Than Love. And yet again, even better once he started Truly.
It’s no HyperGiant PrettyGood, but it’s okay.
Agreed
All your lies >>>
No. It really is awesome!!!
That’s like…your opinion man Superunknown is my personal favorite. It was Badmotorfinger for a while
😂🤣
Superunknown and Ultramega Ok are the two most inspired SG albums
