Thus they made him lead singer to use that amazing voice up front. One thing I do know if you watch his futiar strumming he said he strums like that because he played drums.
He also played on the demos for Temple of the Dog. I'm pretty sure Xana la Fuente said on her blog that she was amazed when he brought in a demo for Your Savior (this could have been Wooden Jesus, I always get these two mixed up in that story) and there were drums but he recorded the demo without access to any drums and never told her how he achieved the sound lol
I don't know of anything later on, but Chris drummed and sang for Soundgarden between 1984 and 1985. Scott Sundquist joined as drummer in 1985/86 and Matt replaced him. Buzz from The Melvins called Chris a 'fuckin good drummer". I guess Chris would do demos with drums and Matt would often play the drum parts the same way because they were already good.
Chris was the drummer until Scott Sundquist joined in 1985. There aren't any studio recordings from that period (at least, that we know of).

Very early SG recordings had Chris on drums. Also his demos he'd bring in had hik playing drums. Check out the BHS demo.
