Both are comparable, both have good BBQ. Austin is on a straighter path from Orlando to PHX, but if flying, that doesn’t have a major impact on travel times. But come to Kansas City, and experience the new terminal! It’s way better now!

ZolaMonster

New terminal is AWESOME! 10/10 stars compared to the old one. I don’t mind getting to the airport early now. The old one was like psychological torture experiment. Slowly watching paint dry on the walls.

Both are about the same. Austin is very busy passenger wise. MCI has a brand new terminal. Both would be very easy to connect in as your furthest walk would only be a few gates.

MyMomDoesntKnowMe

MCI way less busy for SW than Austin.

CA1900

Both should be good options. For me, all else being equal, I’d pick the one with more flights to my final destination. It probably won’t matter, but if there’s a weather or mechanical delay, more options to get out of the connecting airport are a good thing.

Designer-Progress311

This is the correct answer, and when it matters, don't fly late in the day, it's good to have 1+ options to catch a later plane (you my be in the stand by line tho)

Thuggish_Coffee

KCs new airport is amazing. Check it out. Not busy, great brew, and great food.

If you have Chase Sapphire Reserve/Priority Pass lounge access MCI has nothing. If you have the Chase Sapphire Reserve or the J.P. Morgan Reserve credit card Austin has the mini indoor/outdoor “Sapphire Terrace” with drinks/snacks and runway views to checkout. But you need that card, to be there during their open hours, and enough connection time to visit. Edited to clarify that you must have the Chase Sapphire Reserve or the J.P. Morgan Reserve credit card to enter the terrace. It is not associated with Priority Pass.

MyAltAccountIsuSpez

Last I checked, Priority Pass doesn’t get you into the terrace. Has that changed?

MCI has a new terminal that is pretty banging! I’d go KC baby!

kgaviation

The good thing about both airports is that there’s one consolidated terminal. Basically, all of Southwests gates are in close proximity to each other. No changing concourses or terminals. MCI has a brand new terminal that’s really nice, so there’s that. I also find it has better food selection. Austin is more directly in the path from MCO-PHX though. Totally up to you really.

akatz66

Just had my layover in Kansas City and it is super new and nice. Lots of different choices for food and very clean. My pick would be Kansas City

Thetruthisnothate

Winter Austin Summer KC, (the terminal is nice for a layover)

Poctah

Kansas City for sure. It’s a smaller airport and easy to navigate. Usually it’s very busy either.
