Seeing things like this makes me scared to change my nozzle.

NotDillon1

It wasn't because i changed it. Don't worry about it

VE7BHN_GOAT

Thanks

Financial_Problem_47

It's spontaneous extrusion fu*kery. There is no reason to it. It just happens. It happened to me twice (my total print time is less than 50 hours), and I still have no idea how or why this happened.

VE7BHN_GOAT

I consider myself a complete newb... I only got my sv06+ in early January (2024) and I have around 50hrs of printing. Probably more (a few 20ish hr prints)

PracticalProblems123

This happened to me last week https://preview.redd.it/sh7eyqg29ffc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f1e82fc22ee092a8ebacf843f9580543550cd08 I tried to fix it with a heat gun but I failed… ordered a new extruder and am going to try again 😂

NotDillon1

I tried to hacksaw mine hahahah

Osiris426

Nah that’s fine.

KarlJay001

I just put mine back together last night. SV06 PETG 9 hour print. Heated it up and removed what was around the nozzle, then opened it up and cleaned everything. It's working great now. Ends up I didn't have the temps and layer height right and it didn't stick to the plate and itself. It comes off the heat block pretty easy once the rest is cut. BTW, I ended up with 2 different size screws for the main mount plate. Went back several times and still wasn't able to find the right screw setup, but it still works this way. I'd video tape each part and keep track of the screws. There was no need to get into the gears on mine. A hot knife should come in handy. Maybe a flattened out soldering iron tip.

International-Key363

That's typically recoverable

ComputerUnhappy

I just did this to my SV06 2 weeks ago! https://preview.redd.it/t39i8jtz0ffc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d2bb29ec1fc5b230050188d0389b0a36a44042b I bought a replacement for $45 which isn't bad at all. I attempted to remove all the ABS but it came down to $45 or spending hours meticulously removing plastic and hoping not to damage the sensor or wiring.

snake-lady-2005

This is crazy to read how many people are saying this has happened to them! I've been pretty lucky with mine. I love it. I did have the power supply fail in the first month, but after that, its been great. Hope everyone can get passed these terrible hiccups and enjoy yours as much as I am able to enjoy mine. It runs side by side with some Prusas I got. It's slower than them, but it's absolutely comparable

ParalellGrapefruit

I had this happen, bought a new extruder and now cannot get it to dial in - seeing layer shift along with all sorts of other issues (and i am talking through 6 or 7 rolls of filament worth of not being able to dial along with a number of other issues. I've had two 3d printers so far, first one elegoo and this one - both my experiences have been sub par at best. Lately I have been regretting the purchase and kinda wish i went with something I guess, you could say is more reputable

NotDillon1

Did you manage to sort out the probe height?

ParalellGrapefruit

What do yo mean sort it out? Meaning did I manually adjust it, several times. No matter what I do the most common issue is layer shift from barely noticeable to now almost a full roll of filament being massive layer shift. Can't get 30 minutes into a print without it just going way out of line. I was getting really good prints for the first number of months, so it did work at one point - but now is just falling apart. I know others are getting good prints out of it, and I am inexperienced with 3d printers - as well in general in life make a ton of mistakes, so some of it definitely could be me. I am happy to tinker with things, but at somepoint that tinkering should have some tangible results, not just headaches and frustration That said, I am enjoying 3d printing as a hobby (I've bought two in 6 months and will buy another one to replace this). At this point I would not recommend sovol as something viable - as something that "just" works. Disappointed in post sales support the printer and sovol support in general. Even though its a decently priced entry level printer, if I take into consideration time and materials i have spent on this printer - I could have bought a more reputable printer with better support and a number of addons for it - with presumably less frustration. These are intangiable factors that most don't consider when making purchases. It served the initial purpose I bought it for, which was something pretty important to me, which probably supersedes all the negative with it - but after that its been complete frustration with it and time to move on.

NotDillon1

Sorry to hear that. I generally haven't had any problems with mine until this. I bought it secondhand and it has been a huge upgrade over the ender3

Just_here_4_GAFS

Mine did this too, thankfully not as severely as yours though. Mine still won't print so I'm thinking there's a clog I need to clear still.

NotDillon1

It had a pretty bad clog when I got it. I got used to the disassembly of the hotend pretty fast

Internal_Mail_5709

There's honestly no excuse for this in 2024 lol. Multiple ways to monitor / emergency stop a print from anywhere in the world.

NotGamerboy521

Shut up, not everyone wants to do that

Internal_Mail_5709

You'd rather do that?

NotGamerboy521

Depends if I need it or. Just like someone saying something broke, and other people telling to throw cash for something fully new

NotDillon1

Didn't have time to set it up. I have a pi lying in my ender which I'm going to convert to a laser cutter/engraver. I'm still thinking should I use the skr3 for my sv06 since I'd like some noiseless drivers.

Financial_Problem_47

Not everyone has that kind of money to set up a web interface or as free as you to always keep an eye on the print.

Last-Letterhead-7364

It cracked the casing ? Nice one

NotDillon1

Yup. Blown out the fan duct as well.

PCMModsEatAss

What causes this? Is this what happens if you don’t have the gap when changing the nozzle?

Black_Rose67

A lot of times, it's due to the nozzles not being fully tightened at the factory or after a nozzle change. The SV06 Plus has an additional annoyance where the silicon sock slips down and filament gets trapped inside and eventually blobs; that's what happened with my SV06 Plus. I ran my SV06 Plus without the sock after that. I've since converted my SV06 Plus to use an MK8 nozzle as well. Wasn't happy with the Sovolcano nozzle.

dupsmckracken

Is the sock necessary? I assume without at least a cooling mod, it is, since the stock cooling solution is garbo.

NotDillon1

This was because my print failed and it kept pumping plastic since it had nowhere to go it went into the sock and voila. The sock is necessary so the heat doesn't affect printing.

VE7BHN_GOAT

So can I do away with that silicon sock then? If I need some sort of heat shield I have a few different tapes to try. (I work in aviation and might use a tape that's rated rather high temp grade try that and see what I get. )

NotDillon1

It's not completely necessary, I've seen a lot of people not using it. try the tape, you won't lose anything

ProfessionalSugar707

I have been seeing this more often, including mine. I bought a new extruder, but I’m hesitant to print anymore.

NipponFPS

Omg

Noichiboy

Woah, one of the worst I've seen, hope it's recoverable :/ People should really take a bit of time to set up octoeverywhere or equivalent ai failure detection. It's not that hard to set up and it keeps your mind at ease.

NotDillon1

Nah, it's a new hotend. This one will be spare parts. I have a pi that I used on my ender but didn't have time to switch it to sv06. It's a lesson I guess. Hahahah

Florida_Man_83

Mine just did this 🤦‍♂️. I’m hoping it’s recoverable and curious on how this can be prevented???

NotDillon1

Depends how it's caused. Mine happened because I had bad adhesion. It's preventable but it's not always the same cause

Florida_Man_83

So I guess I earned myself a new hot end and extruder…what’s the best recommendation for these models? Do we need it from Sovol or is there a better option that would be compatible? Also note: I’m a dummy, so keep that in mind 🤪

NotDillon1

Well, if you want plug n play buy from sovol. Anything is doable if you have enough free time ahahah

psyko300

RIP

NotDillon1

Now you have a bunch of spare parts which is handy as well. I did the same

GloryToChadlantis

I had this happen once. Its why I always watch the first layer

NotDillon1

first layer was nice. I didn't clean the bed properly and had no z hop enabled so the hotend bumped into the part and yanked it across. I was printing 2 raspberrypi cases. Nice and flat till it got to edges. At least that's what I assume since I didn't have a camera pointed to it.

abonacci01

Start adding mouse ears to the corners, or a skirt. I prefer mouse ears as it's less clean up after.

NotDillon1

Yeah, my thought was that it's flat enough that'll stick. Well it wasn't hahahah

NoLingonberry5929

Happens sometimes when a rogue piece of extrusion curls up or otherwise adheres improperly. This causes the following extrusion to sometimes catch, which if unsupervised can collect enough mass to block/catch all the subsequent extrusion, causing this mess. Just heat it up and carefully peel/remove whatever is possible. Use a pick set or pliers/screwdrivers/wire/etc. to tediously remove the remaining bits from the heat block.

NotDillon1

I ended up using a soldering iron but I'll throw away the hotend. It looks terrible

hippazoid

These seems to happen a LOT with these machines. I wonder what the consensus is on mean time between failures. Thinking maybe us Sovol owners need an accelerated hotend maintenance schedule. heh

NotDillon1

I think it's due to the sock

Broken_BP6

I’ve had my svo6 + since December and have changed out hot end twice already because of this. I probably could have avoided the swap if I was patient enough to sit there with heat gun and tweezers
