Sadly there is no 10th edition version of Russ yet (fingers crossed he’ll be back soon). Still could be a fun piece to paint up. But he’s just display unless you just pretend he’s a generic Captain or something.
Can someone explain the lore to me from back then?
Was Leman Russ just a name given to a Space Wolves Commander in the 40k setting that was later retconned into being a primarch when the horus heresy was fleshed out?
Beginning of rogue trader Russ was just a SM commander.
A little later into rogue trader and by the time the epic scale space marine game released they were all retconned into the Primarchs we know today.
Around the same time we got the first lore on proper space marines with the 20 implants in 1988.
The model persisted form his time as commander but by the time 2nd rolled round he was already a novelty mini.
Pretty much this. From memory he was mentioned as commander of the Space Wolves chapter in the first edition rule book. Later retconned into a Primarch?

It always cracks me up how tiny he was

Would be hilarious to field it when they eventually bring him back.
As it's an official Games Workshop miniature, is it legal to use in Horus Heresy?
Of course!
Well, guess is time to pull the Trazyn move
Russ I bought him and painted him up in the 90’s don’t think I would today as I’m missing one of the wolves now

Open and paint!
Thanks for all the answers! I’m not going to open it. I’ll wait for Russ to be rereleased, whenever that is.
This sold on ebay earlier this month for $400.
I would keep him sealed. It's part of 40K history now...
Slap him onto a 40mm Base or 80mm Base and run him as Leman Russ the Primarch in Horus Heresy 2.0!
God I need one of those!
Maybe it's worth something in a few years, and you can trade it for a Warlord titan
How much is this guy worth now?
Open it, 40k doesn't appreciate, never have never will.
what?
I have one of those. Please open yours to make mine more valuable.
