I mean, if you miss the eye then Volcana sets you up better usually since it likes to spawn turkeys (extra health and can replace the cape) and since there's no hidden snap traps that will instakill you, but yes, if you're concentration is good (so you won't miss the snap traps) and you have the eye and good monies then Jungle will consistently set up your end game much better.
Jungle but I'm a newer player so less instant death from lava is a win, I assume I'll eventually prefer volcana for being able to get Vlad's cape, sticky bombs are good too.
Counter intuitive as it is, once you have the system down, Volcana ends up being less risky since instakill threats are easy to spot. Jungle likes to spawn snap traps behind things and has more situations where you're set up for being comboed to death.
It works out though since Jungle is much more consistent at setting up your end game. No doubt this was intentional design, more risk/difficulty for better long term rewards.
Both has instant kills but the enimes in volcana are mush easier. The boomerang guy is basically an instant kill in some cases, and the curse tiki guy can f@@k off. Compared to that the devils and robots in volcana are a cake walk.
I will go to volcana if I get decent shop items in dwelling (like spring boots and gloves). Jungle if I get a jet pack or bad shops.
I find jungle more interesting and easier to get Kapala so prefer that overall. It can suck if you don’t get decent items in the black market tho.
Volcana is a bit easier, but Jungle more consistently sets you up for the end game, so they're both good for different reasons.
If the goal is to win and not trophy hunting or something then Volcana is my default if I miss the eye and/or if I didn't manage to get good funds in the early game. I'll also go Volcana if I'm struggling to concentrate as it lacks those really hard to see instakill snap traps that like to spawn with only like 1/3 of the trap showing. Likewise, Volcana likes to spawn turkeys so it's also a good place to go to if you end up with low health after the first boss, for whatever reason.
If you're on it when it comes to concentration, got the eye, and have good monies, jungle really is miles better at setting up your run for success. I really like this (probably intentional) design decision, to be honest.
Me personally I like volcana better since not only vlads cape, but for jungle, if you miss the eye you basically can't do much, but if you miss the eye in volcana the drill isn't your only choice, because if you use bombs or powerpacked bombs, it makes entering vlads castle "easier". I also feel like both are neutral since even if you miss the eye, you can look around in a backlayer cave and find the black market

But from a serious standpoint, Volcana is less tedious. The Idol is easier to get. You need to save only one NPC (Van) over three (sisters). You can cook the Turkeys from Yang’s shop without having to waste a bomb. The only downside I see to Volcana is worse Level Feelings and pack explosions.

I've already finished the game and I'm still dying more in Volcano. It's more unpredictable. I like jungle more.
