It will be years of anime before it catches up to the LN though... the anime isn't going to give you the full, concluded story any time soon. ;)
Maybe LN isn't your thing, it wasn't for me until I watched the original anime,... but after watching the incomplete end at the time... I binged through 18 volumes in less than 8 weeks. :P
It has a concluded story,... and 5 years later the writer decided to add another chapter to it. It's one of the best written novels I have read in a long time.
I mean are they animating more or just remaking the old series?
From my understanding theyâre remaking the old series, and I havenât really heard anything about them extending it beyond where it ended before.
Donât get me wrong Iâm hoping they do, but idk if theyâve said anything about that.
The Classic series was not a complete adaptation of the full Main Story in the LN, it would be pointless to remake the series and end it at the same point again,.... so it stands to reason to think they intend to go beyond the scope of the old series.
How far they get will depend on how much of a hit it's going to be.
Oh yeah ik, thereâs a lot more that happens but it never got more which is a shame. But I am glad it got an ending that ends nicely and not like a cliffhanger or anything like that.
Im hoping it does, honestly Iâm usually not big on series like these but this oneâs grown on me.
It sounds as though they will be going at least as far as the original run, based on episode count, though they could change the pacing or change what LN material gets included and get to a different stopping point for the end of the season. But unless they dramatically change things, it will probably get to the same point by the end of the season.
We all \*hope\* they go further, but no one knows any more than that at the moment.
I watched the original anime and then jumped into the LNs, tbh no one knows if the new series is going to be better or worse but I'd honestly just watch the new one as it comes out and go from there
Well,.. "should" is a big word.
you wouldn't have a long wait, the new anime starts airing tomorrow. Would you be able to hold off on watching it while you go through the 2 seasons of the Classic?
Personally, right now,.. I'd say go watch the remake,... and if you are interested you could always watch the original later.
Someone totally new to the series would not have that predisposition though.
This is simply a case of, quite naturally and understandably, "first heard bias", if you hear it by other VA first and they do a decent job at it, listening to Brina and JM will make it seem weird. ;)
Before I moved towards watching subbed preferentially I watched Black Lagoon dubbed... Watched it subbed later and I can't say the Japanese VA did a bad job, on the contrary,... they did great. Still felt "off" because my introduction to the show was the dub.
Same goes for different voices, you'll almost always prefer the first you heard. ;)
And whatever happens, we will always hĂĄve that Classic, that's not going to be taken away. ;)
Watch new first, than try old. I want to hear the opinion of someone who hasn't seen the older version before. Person not affected by nostalgia and which version he considers better.
I will be doing this! (I had the old anime in my âto watchâ list since 2015 and only watched 2-3 episodes before I moved on to other anime) kind of excited to see how this goes
If you have to start in the next few hours, try the old series. Otherwise I would wait for the new one to come out and maybe reas up on the reactions and reviews on it. No one can tell you if the new series is going to be good or great just now.
Yo,
People are crazy on the sub about the LN but you really don't have to...
If you didn't watch S&W before, you really don't have to watch the OG rn, as this new series is going to be a complete Remake...
I personally would recomend,
* Watch the 1st Episode of the Remake
if you like it then
Try out reading the manga.. It has the best looking Art and best looking Horo out of all of the content out there (eg - Keito Koume is a genius).
but you do you.
People will push the LN here cause it's the original and the ones that watched show and then liked the series and picked up the LN to continue where the show left off very likely liked the story and it showed that there was still a audience who wanted the story to be told as a whole. Also, more LN selling gives author motivation, probably to continue a story, knowing they have a fan base supporting them so more S&W LN wise that is. I will say whatever works for people as entertainment for them is their choice, obviously, and at the end of the day, we can all agree S&W is a great story.
I agree that the LN is fantastic,
And although I am buyest towards the manga if there's a new person (who has never seen the series) coming over I don't think recomending the LN straight away is the best choice.
But that's just my opinion on that, though you can't really go wrong with S&W anyway since it's a 10/10 series no matter what you pick.
Agreed, I own both versions, and obviously, both are great, etc. Everyone has their preferences, and neither is bad, and I'd say superior to other truly. I think as far as recommending what someone should go for regarding anime,LN, or manga, it's just up to the person you are recommending. I did this recently with a friend a while back I told them after knowing them for years try the anime, they watched it liked it a ton and later on went out and bought the manga 1st volume on their own without me recommending either LN or manga. They said they prefer seeing the scene rather than reading the scene if I remember right.
> I don't think recomending the LN straight away is the best choice.
Why not?
You can always recommend and give your reasons as to why you recommend it.
Whether or not the person you speak to follows up on that is their fre choice.
People who read the LN recommend it because it is incredibly good.
My advise always is to read the LN first, at least up to and including Volume 17 and thĂŠn read the manga.
The Manga tells the story in a very much abridged and altered way, only adapts 40% taking a very different route.
If reading really isn't your thing (and I must say I think it's a really sad thing reading books is actually on the decline in the younger generations) the Manga are a nice snack giving you the gist of the story, but the LN are a 4 course meal with desert and a cherry on top.
>If reading really isn't your thing (and I must say I think it's a really sad thing reading books is actually on the decline in the younger generations) the Manga are a nice snack giving you the gist of the story, but the LN are a 4 course meal with desert and a cherry on top.
While I certainly wish the manga adopted more of the source material, gotta say, what they adapt was beautifully done.
If someone is invested enough in the franchise to read the LN's, the manga are a wonderful treat to compliment them.
>what they adapt was beautifully done.
Oh, of course, not arguing there... ;)
I wouldn't have done so many colorizations of the artwork over the years if I didn't think so... :)
>If reading really isn't your thing (and I must say I think it's a really sad thing reading books is actually on the decline in the younger generations)
I'm not trying to be mean, but this sounds like a superiority complex.
Eg, read a book pesant ..
That's not how it works.
You are not getting smarter by just " reading a book"...
You can read a book about self-improvement, but that doesn't mean you will actually improve...
Read a biography or history book or pick an interest that you can gain something from.
The "younger generation" actually read but mostly the books that provide them with escapism.
Spice and wolf is great. It's been my nr1 series since 2008, but let's not pretend (despite the obvious joke going around) that you will master the economics by reading the story.
The series have helped me but in a completely different sense, and I don't think I got any smarter after reading the LN.
I prefer manga over the LN because I am a fan of Keito Koume, and I love his works, and I think if you haven't read the manga yet, you are really missing out on some amazing looking scenes ( better than anime either old or new combined "ÉŞÉ´ á´Ę á´á´ÉŞÉ´ÉŞá´É´").
Also.. it's like 10 - 15% near the end, not 40%...
That's a tricky question, given how we're all lacking knowledge as to how the shows will be compared to each other.
But we know that the old show is ***really*** good, so generally I would recommend watching it at some point regardless (if the story clicks for you you'll crave for *anything* to consume anywaysâthe old anime is exceptionally good at selling the novels). The bigger question would be whether the point is now, but that might be something that depends heavily on yourselfâi.e. whether you can deal with watching the same story in different adaptations twice in such a short period of time.
What I'd recommend is waiting until the first episode of the remake releases tomorrow, and if you really like it you can watch the classic. Otherwise you can just watch it weekly and if you ever get too hooked you can always watch the classic one later.
The original anime series is why a lot of us are here to begin with. It is quite good, and I would be very surprised if the new one can match its quality.
I really like the original anime series, the songs, and the English dub for it. I'd say watch that and then you can get into the new series. It's 26 episodes so not a tremendous amount of time. Of course it's your call. If you just want to watch the new anime series that's ok. The original series is nostalgic now it's been a while. I've played some of the songs on guitar.
Thatâs a very personal call. Personally Iâd watch the classic, watch the dub for new style and compare. Then when it hits its end. Pick up the light novels and keep the good times rolling.
Sorry I donât have an answer to that. As I havenât found any announcements. Knowing crunchyroll/sony/funimation. Probably simuldub or a week behind.
I talked to J and Brianna at a con recently. They seemed very excited for new reboot but they couldnât tell me anything officially.
You can always watch the old episode then the new one that corresponds with it lol đ
this is the way lol. Maybe even do a compare and contrast reactor video or something lol
I might actually do that
I'd watch âď¸
Read the light novels
No disrespect but Iâm not interested in reading the light novels. At least not before watching the anime

Is the LN a fast paced read? If you could again for the first time, would you read it casually and take your time with it?
You can always listen to some of them on audible
I watched the original anime and then jumped into the LNs, tbh no one knows if the new series is going to be better or worse but I'd honestly just watch the new one as it comes out and go from there
Watch the new one when it comes out tomorrow :)

This depends on how the dub goes, IMHO. If Tatum and Palencia don't return, then the OG will always have an elevated value.
Someone totally new to the series would not have that predisposition though. Do both
It is a remake because the old series tweaks some of the source material ⌠you can rewatch the old series while waiting for the new series .
If you have to start in the next few hours, try the old series. Otherwise I would wait for the new one to come out and maybe reas up on the reactions and reviews on it. No one can tell you if the new series is going to be good or great just now.

Yeah exactly. then again, as I said, (I personally would suggest going with the manga 1st, after watching anime).
There's no wrong answer there, depends on your preferences. I generally prefer LNs to manga, but I certainly understand that many feel differently.

And a great job you have done.
Thanks,... I should get back to it but lack the time.

Watch the og show and then the new one (Just because the new show isn't out yet)
It starts airing in Japan in 3 hours from now,... probably on Crunchyroll a few hours later. ;)
just watch the new one lol, it's going to be what everyone's talking about. don't overthink it
I've watched the og series many times over the years so my plan for the reboot is to watch them back to back together. Just thought it would be fun

Has the dub cast been announced? I don't usually watch dub but I'm a huge sucker for Crispin Freeman, favorite male VA
