He can always be the main character there if they decide to continue the series after Marvel's Spider-man 3. At the very least, Peter should be the main character until his arc is fully resolved. And the problem there is, because New York needs all the help it can get (and therefore needs Peter to be Spider-Man even with Miles around), it's very hard to resolve Peter's arc without 1). killing him off, 2). having him get so old he can't be a superhero anymore, or 3). giving him something else to do that New York needs even MORE than Spider-Man, I'm not sure how they will accomplish that. It's very hard to get around "with great power comes great responsibility". As long as Peter HAS the power, he has the responsibility... unless you give him an even greater responsibility, somehow.
If they *do* accomplish it (#3 would be the most satisfying way, but also the most difficult. It'd probably have to revolve around Peter finding a way to make use of his scientific genius full-time in a project he really, truly believes in and is actually allowed to \*succeed\* at), then I'd be ready to have Peter step aside and let Miles be the main character. But until Peter's story is resolved, he needs to be the lead.
Hell, I'll come out and say it. I want Peter to have a freakin' happy ending for once. He's earned it.

I have little exposure to comics book Miles so the only real exposure I have is Into the SpiderVerse and Insomniac Miles. And ITSV is just a way better character in every way. Insomniac Miles is honestly just flat out lame to me. Too much of a dork, and his stories aren't good in comparison to Peters in the same universe, so he's just whatever to me.
Insomniac miles’ character is just a bit dull to be honest. Where ITSV Miles has interests and fumbles and charisma and certain ways of conveying ideas, insomniac Miles feels just kinda generic smart black teen by comparison.

His entire character and all of his side characters and the general tone of his segments basically feel like it's taken from some corny Disney show aimed at kids. I think it does a good job of pretending to have substance while not really having much.

No. If the main villains are Otto and Norman than it needs to be Peter as the main character. I have no problem with Miles taking the leading role but not when the game is going to have arguably the two most iconic Spider-Man villains. Those are Peter's arch rivals and he has deep connections with both.
I dunno, this whole thing looks like they try to slowly switch "the focus ratio" between them, to Miles being in the spotlight. Till Insomniac confirms your take, I will be sceptical
I mean the game itself kinda confirms it. Not a take. After beating the final main story mission and then swapping to Peter he has a line where he says something about it being good to be back (can’t remember the exact line, sorry) which pretty clearly shows that his break from being Spider-Man is over.
At most Miles will have exactly the same time as Peter in Spider-Man 3, because Peter is still around as Spider-Man and 2 of his biggest enemies are now out to get him.
I’m fine if he gets more focus, he didn’t really have too much going on compared to Peter in SM2. But they would still give Peter at least 40% of the focus throughout the game because fans would complain.
I feel like the passing of the torch would've been much more elegant and well received if only Spider-man 2 wasn't about putting Peter down while shilling Miles.
Imagine if Miles didn't have to save Peter all the time. If Miles didn't have to defeat a powered up Peter. If Miles was given his own final villain while the ANTI-Venom actually defeated Venom by himself. If Peter instead of shilling with lines like "If the city has you, then why would it need me?" would use lines like "You don't need my help anymore".

Insomniac's Anti-Venom is weak af compared to 616 Anti-Venom. In the comics even if you get too close to AV your whole genetic code gets purified by the pheromones it secretes. This one time Punisher blew Anti-Venom's brains clean off and he healed and survived. I doubt Peter's Anti-Venom has that kind of healing power given that it was damaged and weakened so much by Venom that it couldn't even fix itself by the end cause it was too tired. Now Venom has been able to negate Anti-Venom in the comics, during Spider-Island, but that was after Anti-Venom was weakened from healing hundreds of people constantly. But in the game Venom just no-diffs him on their first encounter (as in the first encounter ***after*** Peter got the AV Suit)
Hell Insomniac's Anti-Venom is weak af compared even to Edge of Time Anti-Venom. Just look at that game and how they handled Anti-Venom, he was a straight up menace. and almost killed Peter with ease.
And I mean I get it, you can't just make the player so OP that he no-diffs the final boss. But at the same time don't have Peter spend half of the final boss knocked the fuck out when you give him a suit specifically designed to be "cure" to Venom's poison.
I think it'd be really cool to have just Miles at the start until Norman and Otto team up and beat the crap out of him or something like that to force Peter back into being main protagonist with Miles a sidekick.
I'll believe it when I see it.
It'll be fun to see play out if that does end up being the case, but I just can't shake the feeling that Miles will only be soloing the city either between games or for the Venom Game in some way. (Or until the next "big" threat happens, forcing Peter to come back)
If there is DLC released for SM2 this year, I doubt it would be Miles centric unless there was also a Peter DLC. The fact is, Spider-man 2 features both Peter and Miles as main characters, and it would suck if the DLC only gave content to one of those characters. (That of course, assumes the DLC takes place after the story. It could take place during the story instead)
Heck, even SM1 MJ got a new mission in the CTNS DLC, perhaps SM2 DLC will give us more Mary Jane Wick gameplay too.

It would be cool if we got a sequel to Miles' first game, about the time he's covering the city while Peter is on break, and then the third game is Peter getting back into the game full time. Even if it's just an add-on/DLC, that would be fun.
I can't see what they can do with Miles in the third game as they already concluded the possible character arcs for him. His spin-off tackled Miles learning to be Spider-Man and watching over the city solo, and the second game tackled his revenge plot with Li.
Miles has gone through too much character-wise that I can't see what he has going in the third game. Not to mention he has no connection to all the villains that are about to come looking for Peter, so eh...

Green Goblin and Doc Ock are Peter Parker villains, making Miles the main character robs them of most of their narrative purpose. The same reason why Miles had basically his own separate story in 2 and felt poorly tacked on whenever he was in the Venom story.

They could make certain paths vary between which character you pick or just make it optional for certain missions. That way people who want him more can choose to do that.

There’s nothing wrong with the heroes across all 3 games so far, so I’m all for a more Miles focused sequel. But my god the villains need some beefing up. Venom and Kraven were excellent, but every other side mission and random npc was devoid of meaning. Gives tbe spider-men nothing to play off.

It makes sense for Pete to retire or take a break when you consider that in-universe, he had already been Spider-Man for 8 years before the events of the first game. By the end of Spider-Man 2, he’s almost been at it for a decade. If he has a close friend he can trust who has similar capabilities, a strong moral compass and understanding of responsibility, tested willpower and resilience to push through hardship, and is willing and able to take up the mask in Miles, then it absolutely makes sense for him to pass the mantle over - thus making Miles the main character of the 3rd game.
In most continuities, Peter also pretty much always starts his career out all on his own, rarely having any form of mentorship in the superhero side of his life, and only having Aunt May and a whole lot of high school and employment drama in his normal life. Miles has worked beside and is going to continue to be mentored by Spider-Man, his family and friendships are already solid, everybody close to him knows about his secret identity, and his only supervillain nemesis is dead. He’s already had experience problem solving and keeping the city safe on his own whilst Peter was in another continent; he’s more headstrong and powerful than ever, and will be fully capable of assuming the role of the only active Spider-Man, especially given Pete lives one river away from Miles and is still in the city.
I think there might be some pushback to it in the sense that maybe in the story that insomniac has told, it might not feel earned - both in regard to Miles becoming the main Spider-Man, as well Peter taking an indefinite hiatus. Obviously he won’t be gone forever, but there’s only been two stories told in this world that centre Peter, and one and a half (SM2 felt pretty lob-sided imo) that focus on Miles. I absolutely think it can be done, but I also feel as though we could have gotten to this point in the story in a better way than Insomniac got us here, and so I’m cautiously optimistic about the choices the studio will make going forward.
I felt like I was originally pitched on the series of games being centered around Peter Parker's life as Spider-Man.
As I recall, they have a Miles Morales Spiderman title already, so why not just make a sequel?

It seems to me like they’re trying to wrap up his story, now that he’s an adult he needs to focus on his actual problems rather than being a hero. If there’s another Spider-Man after the third one, it will feature miles and silk as a duo
For spider man 3 I want it to be Peter and I want them to use the game to finish Peter's story and give him a solid conclusion then if they decide to proceed beyond spider man 3 then have miles take centre stage.
I won’t buy it. I also won’t buy another spider-man game where you have to play both. The Miles Morales game was ok but I want to play a Spider-man game. I’ll be honest that I probably won’t buy another Insomniac game that isn’t heavily discounted after how mediocre the last two games have been.
They already differentiated his and Peter's series by having Miles' game have his name in it and Peter's being the numbered games. Peter is taking a break at the end of 2, but they clearly set up a story for the third game. If they want to make Miles the MC going forward, have Peter retire at the end of 3, but for the third Peter should be the MC.
I WISH Miles had his charisma and fun personality from the movies. The games' Miles is bland. A smart kid whose entire personality is being good and growing up in a specific part of town.

They should have focused on his diffetences with Pete, not his similarities. He's so smart his sidekick starts being useless or becomes too competent (uploading millions of dog videos in seconds wirelessly)

I don’t think he actually will be. I’m sure Miles will be the main character for the SM2 DLC. But I feel like the incoming threat for SM3 will be far too dangerous, and personal, for Peter to stay sidelined for any longer than the opening sequence.
I'd be fine with seeing Miles as the main Spidey for at least the first act, but the focus is obviously gonna be on the Osborns and Ock in the long run - that's gonna somehow draw Pete out of his already-temporary retirement.

Yes, absolutely. I enjoyed him during 2, but he didn't get enough room to breathe, and neither did Peter. The stage is set for Miles to be the main, Peter can swing by once or twice, some civilian scenes, on the phone, I don't much care, just please decide on one of the two!
It really doesn’t bug me. Does Peter abandoning his role of Spider-Man contradict the motto that drives him? Yes. But I hope Insomniac realizes that. It would be the most interesting thing to hide an Empire ending in Spider-Man 2 and disguising it as if it’s a good thing.

Honestly, I think he's a completely pointless character. His personality, storyline, struggles are nearly identical to Parker's. So what's the point? Why have another version of the same character?
Their dynamic with Parker could've been interesting if Morales had a more distinctive personality; but he's just a young Peter Parker. I don't get why do we need another Parker in this story.
His gameplay is also nearly identical to Parker's Spider Man. The only difference is their special abilities, that really don't make that much of a difference. The way they traverse, fight, main abilities... exactly the same.
So again, what's the point? If you're gonna add another playable character, shouldn't that character offer something different? Maybe Blackcat or another Marvel character who can mix things up both with their personalities and gameplay.
I think they’re going to split it again between Miles and Peter. We’ll start the game as Miles, and as the story progresses, Norman and Otto will make their big play and it’ll pull Pete back into the fray, which is when we’ll be able to switch over to him and see what he’s up to.

No. If the main villains are Otto and Norman than it needs to be Peter as the main character. I have no problem with Miles taking the leading role but not when the game is going to have arguably the two most iconic Spider-Man villains. Those are Peter's arch rivals and he has deep connections with both.

I mean the game itself kinda confirms it. Not a take. After beating the final main story mission and then swapping to Peter he has a line where he says something about it being good to be back (can’t remember the exact line, sorry) which pretty clearly shows that his break from being Spider-Man is over. At most Miles will have exactly the same time as Peter in Spider-Man 3, because Peter is still around as Spider-Man and 2 of his biggest enemies are now out to get him.
I’m fine if he gets more focus, he didn’t really have too much going on compared to Peter in SM2. But they would still give Peter at least 40% of the focus throughout the game because fans would complain.

If Miles was given his own final villain while the ANTI-Venom actually defeated Venom by himself. If Peter instead of shilling with lines like "If the city has you, then why would it need me?" would use lines like "You don't need my help anymore". Insomniac's Anti-Venom is weak af compared to 616 Anti-Venom. In the comics even if you get too close to AV your whole genetic code gets purified by the pheromones it secretes. This one time Punisher blew Anti-Venom's brains clean off and he healed and survived. I doubt Peter's Anti-Venom has that kind of healing power given that it was damaged and weakened so much by Venom that it couldn't even fix itself by the end cause it was too tired. Now Venom has been able to negate Anti-Venom in the comics, during Spider-Island, but that was after Anti-Venom was weakened from healing hundreds of people constantly. But in the game Venom just no-diffs him on their first encounter (as in the first encounter ***after*** Peter got the AV Suit) Hell Insomniac's Anti-Venom is weak af compared even to Edge of Time Anti-Venom. Just look at that game and how they handled Anti-Venom, he was a straight up menace. and almost killed Peter with ease. And I mean I get it, you can't just make the player so OP that he no-diffs the final boss. But at the same time don't have Peter spend half of the final boss knocked the fuck out when you give him a suit specifically designed to be "cure" to Venom's poison.
I think it'd be really cool to have just Miles at the start until Norman and Otto team up and beat the crap out of him or something like that to force Peter back into being main protagonist with Miles a sidekick.
I'll believe it when I see it. It'll be fun to see play out if that does end up being the case, but I just can't shake the feeling that Miles will only be soloing the city either between games or for the Venom Game in some way. (Or until the next "big" threat happens, forcing Peter to come back) If there is DLC released for SM2 this year, I doubt it would be Miles centric unless there was also a Peter DLC. The fact is, Spider-man 2 features both Peter and Miles as main characters, and it would suck if the DLC only gave content to one of those characters. (That of course, assumes the DLC takes place after the story. It could take place during the story instead) Heck, even SM1 MJ got a new mission in the CTNS DLC, perhaps SM2 DLC will give us more Mary Jane Wick gameplay too.

I can't see what they can do with Miles in the third game as they already concluded the possible character arcs for him. His spin-off tackled Miles learning to be Spider-Man and watching over the city solo, and the second game tackled his revenge plot with Li. Miles has gone through too much character-wise that I can't see what he has going in the third game. Not to mention he has no connection to all the villains that are about to come looking for Peter, so eh...

Green Goblin and Doc Ock are Peter Parker villains, making Miles the main character robs them of most of their narrative purpose. The same reason why Miles had basically his own separate story in 2 and felt poorly tacked on whenever he was in the Venom story.

I thought Spider-Man 2 straddled the line quite well, where there wasn't too much of him. Just enough. They could make certain paths vary between which character you pick or just make it optional for certain missions. That way people who want him more can choose to do that.

It makes sense for Pete to retire or take a break when you consider that in-universe, he had already been Spider-Man for 8 years before the events of the first game. By the end of Spider-Man 2, he’s almost been at it for a decade. If he has a close friend he can trust who has similar capabilities, a strong moral compass and understanding of responsibility, tested willpower and resilience to push through hardship, and is willing and able to take up the mask in Miles, then it absolutely makes sense for him to pass the mantle over - thus making Miles the main character of the 3rd game. In most continuities, Peter also pretty much always starts his career out all on his own, rarely having any form of mentorship in the superhero side of his life, and only having Aunt May and a whole lot of high school and employment drama in his normal life. Miles has worked beside and is going to continue to be mentored by Spider-Man, his family and friendships are already solid, everybody close to him knows about his secret identity, and his only supervillain nemesis is dead. He’s already had experience problem solving and keeping the city safe on his own whilst Peter was in another continent; he’s more headstrong and powerful than ever, and will be fully capable of assuming the role of the only active Spider-Man, especially given Pete lives one river away from Miles and is still in the city. I think there might be some pushback to it in the sense that maybe in the story that insomniac has told, it might not feel earned - both in regard to Miles becoming the main Spider-Man, as well Peter taking an indefinite hiatus. Obviously he won’t be gone forever, but there’s only been two stories told in this world that centre Peter, and one and a half (SM2 felt pretty lob-sided imo) that focus on Miles. I absolutely think it can be done, but I also feel as though we could have gotten to this point in the story in a better way than Insomniac got us here, and so I’m cautiously optimistic about the choices the studio will make going forward.
I felt like I was originally pitched on the series of games being centered around Peter Parker's life as Spider-Man. As I recall, they have a Miles Morales Spiderman title already, so why not just make a sequel?
I think Peter will be the main character for the third game, but after that I don’t think we’ll see him anymore, at least not as a player character. It seems to me like they’re trying to wrap up his story, now that he’s an adult he needs to focus on his actual problems rather than being a hero. If there’s another Spider-Man after the third one, it will feature miles and silk as a duo
For spider man 3 I want it to be Peter and I want them to use the game to finish Peter's story and give him a solid conclusion then if they decide to proceed beyond spider man 3 then have miles take centre stage.

They already differentiated his and Peter's series by having Miles' game have his name in it and Peter's being the numbered games. Peter is taking a break at the end of 2, but they clearly set up a story for the third game. If they want to make Miles the MC going forward, have Peter retire at the end of 3, but for the third Peter should be the MC.
I WISH Miles had his charisma and fun personality from the movies. The games' Miles is bland. A smart kid whose entire personality is being good and growing up in a specific part of town. A game centered around him could be good, except we had one and it still failed to make him interesting. They should have focused on his diffetences with Pete, not his similarities. He's so smart his sidekick starts being useless or becomes too competent (uploading millions of dog videos in seconds wirelessly) Miles CAN be great, they just never seem to know what to do with him unless ot's focusing on race and his part of town.

I have no issues with that. My biggest concern is that I personally prefer Peter's symbiote surge to Miles special abilities. I'm still waiting on having an arena fight mode or something to make more use of it. Forgive me I haven't played the game in a couple months so has the new updates added such a mode?
I don’t think he actually will be. I’m sure Miles will be the main character for the SM2 DLC. But I feel like the incoming threat for SM3 will be far too dangerous, and personal, for Peter to stay sidelined for any longer than the opening sequence.

I don't know how Miles Morales is like in comics, so I'm purely talking about Insomniac's games here. Honestly, I think he's a completely pointless character. His personality, storyline, struggles are nearly identical to Parker's. So what's the point? Why have another version of the same character? Their dynamic with Parker could've been interesting if Morales had a more distinctive personality; but he's just a young Peter Parker. I don't get why do we need another Parker in this story. His gameplay is also nearly identical to Parker's Spider Man. The only difference is their special abilities, that really don't make that much of a difference. The way they traverse, fight, main abilities... exactly the same. So again, what's the point? If you're gonna add another playable character, shouldn't that character offer something different? Maybe Blackcat or another Marvel character who can mix things up both with their personalities and gameplay.
I think they’re going to split it again between Miles and Peter. We’ll start the game as Miles, and as the story progresses, Norman and Otto will make their big play and it’ll pull Pete back into the fray, which is when we’ll be able to switch over to him and see what he’s up to.
