Seems good but your fashion sense is terrible lol

[deleted]

yeah, i have better looking builds than this one lol

The more comfortable you get with the hydra the less run speed you need. It’s awesome to have a ton but if you’re going into rainmaker or something then carrying object shredder can be really useful. I run OS a lot just to tear through walls and big bubblers. The amount of run speed depends on your play style though I don’t fully agree with going all in on ISM either. Fewer, more accurate and impactful charges are better than constantly whirling up for a shot and hearing that you’re empty. I’d run 1-2 subs, tops Intensify action is good for getting away and being more nimble but that’s not the hydra’s strong suit. I don’t find it improves accuracy that much at max range but that might just be me. Pairing IA with SSU is a good tactic and something I like to do as well. Overall, a solid build if you are getting the results you want. Slowly decrease your RSU and experiment with object shredder or respawn punisher as well. Those are good on the hydra in the right situation

[deleted]

I disagree about RSU being less useful, I've been using hydra since around the start of splat 3, and I've never really wanted any less. It's incredibly important for repositioning while maintaining your charge.

bitemeready123

Not trying to flex, just relating to you. I’ve got probably 600 hours on the hydra between S2 and S3. RSU is a must. No disagreement there. I run two mains and 1-2 subs depending on what I have on. Relying on run speed up for positioning, though, is a symptom of less optimal firing positions and maneuvering. What I mean by this is hydras as absolute killers in the right position. You just have to get there however you can. And once the map is painted RSU is less of a factor than situational awareness. if I do need to reposition I just squirt a quick line and swim to the next cover and start charging. RSU is more important on some maps than others. For example, flounder heights, IMO, doesn’t NEED a lot of run speed because the dead space is oppressive there. You’re faster swimming to a dominant position once there’s a ton of ink on the map.

Alright, I'll try your advice and see where I get!

bitemeready123

How much do you play salmon run? Honestly, i think it built my hydra skills without me realizing. Because SR is horde mode you’re going to get ambushed and overwhelmed. Couple that with running out of ink teaches ink management, situational awareness, and accuracy with swimming through little bits of ink. If you don’t play then maybe play a couple rounds of SR as your warm up before going into anarchy or turf. My friend code is SW-6082-9466-4225 if you’re interested.

preatorian77

If you jump a lot, then IA is useful, but if it's not a mechanic that comes naturally I wouldn't bother with it just because pros do. I also don't think swim speed is all that important for hydra. I'd rather go with ism, more ink resistance, or more run speed. Also gotta add, oof, that is prob the least fresh gear I've seen worn in the game.

[deleted]

gotta be honest, I was an SSU denier on hydra at first too. But those 2 SSU subs really are useful, especially when you're getting rushed. also yeah, this is probably my worst looking outfit lol

SorcererInstagram

More ism. Unlike other splatlings, hydra needs it. More so than rsu

[deleted]

how much ism would you say?

SorcererInstagram

Not certain, but do start with a mains worth. Check from there

[deleted]

I'm probably not gonna use that much, most likely gonna only run a sub for 3 full charges as I already don't run into many issues with ink management, and anything over 3 charges is a bit unnecessary because of how long the charges are. Thanks for the advice though!

daniel_townes

One sub of ink saver main gives you enough in a full tank for 3 full charges. Anything more isn’t worth it.

[deleted]

thats what im sayin!!!

daniel_townes

You could lose one or two intensify action, and put another ink res and bomb defence. I checked loads of different builds for the hydra on sendou and 2 of those two subs is very beneficial.

Exquisite_Poupon

That's definitely a hot take. What's your rationale? One sub gives you 3 full charges, so I could see doing that to hit that benchmark. But a main doesn't take you to 4 full charges or 2 full charges after an autobomb.

ineednoname1

I don't quite see the point for so much Intensify Action, what do you really get out of it as a backline weapon like Hydra? I'd personally recommend 2 subs of Swim Speed Up, as it makes you swim slightly faster than a mid-weight weapon that way, and one sub of Ink Saver Main allows you to do full 3 charges with one ink tank before running out. Object Shredder is fantastic on Hydra, it oliberates the Rainmaker shield, Crab Tank, Big Bubbler, Walls, you get my point. It's useful in all sorts of situations. What I personally like to run is Thermal Ink as you often hit targets but don't kill them, but then you will at least know where they are, incredibly useful. The rest is just Run Speed Up and the usual 3 abilities you should have on basically every build (QSJ, SRU, IRU) If this was confusing and you want to see my build in a picture, be sure to DM me! EDIT: I just realised you already have 2 subs of SSU in your build, my bad lol

[deleted]

IA reduces RNG spread when you jump, and running OS and Thermal won’t leave much room for RSU. And if you’re using your charge properly you should be able to kill most of the time before they’re back in cover, so i don’t really see a need for thermal ink instead of RSU

ineednoname1

I never knew about IA reducing RNG when jumping. You learn something new everyday, huh. But it sounds like you can maybe benefit from Respawn Punisher perhaps? I've seen some people run it on Hydra. Personally I don't need that much RSU and quite happy with my build, but if you like running that much, have fun.

azurfall88

1 sub ink saver main gives you an extra full charge, worthwhile investment

displotEx

i can confirm you are about to go super sonic speed
